I'm Rooting for Shane

Submitted by fortissimosca on

Since it appears to be a two horse race now and there doesn't seem to be a lot of people in the Team Morris camp, I thought I would throw my support in for a few reasons:

1. Seeing Shane succeed would be the cherry on top of the Bursley Soft Serve Ice Cream on a Waffle Sundae demonstrating the ineptitude of the previous regime.  Concussion gate was the boiling point for the last administration, and I want to see Harbaugh take the centerpiece from that and turn him into a champion.

2. I want to see the hometown metro Detroit kid who "just wants to play" recover from one of the worst moments in U of M history and take us to a National Championship (Big 10 Championship?...bowl game?........beating Rutgers?)

3. I'm concerned about Rudock losing his job at Iowa, whose playbook is about as simple as a corn farmer's tinder account.  Harbaugh's QB turnarounds have been attributed to simplified reads allowing the passer to make quicker/better decisions.  Rudock was superseded in a similar environment while Morris hasn't been in that environment.

I know I am rooting for the underdog.  Neg away if you must.

edit: I apologize for the addition of the cup size to Rudock's name

I would love to see Gardner come back and play for JH.
But seriously, I don't care who starts or finishes the game at QB as long as we have a competent offense and win some games

If Shane wins the job, and thats an "if", we will be a better team than if Rudoch was QB'ing. The reason I believe this is cause we all know that Shane has the all the tools to be very good so if he wins the job, its nothing but a good sign for us, and that he is, and will contunue to improve

that the best QB start. Period, I have every expectation that Harbaugh will start the best Qb available. I also hope that QB turns out to be Shane Morris. He did yeoman service recruiting the 2013 class. He never had the option to red shirt. Despite three QB coaches in three years he's never flinched, never complained, and worked very hard for the program.

I have no doubt that Harbaugh will pick the best QB to give the team the best chance to win. I expect nothing less from anyone on the coaching staff. I also hope that guy turns out to be Shane, for his loyalty for his effort, for his love for Michigan, I hope he is the clear winner.

Your points are all valid, but I honestly don't care who starts, as long as whoever starts gives us the best chance to win football games. That's what Harbaugh was brought here to do.

If Morris wins the job, then that's great. I hope he goes out and shows the world what he can really do after what happened last year, but if Rudock wins the job, then so be it. It'll be because he's the best man for the job.

so given the limited info we have right now, I would prefer Rudock.

In the 7 seasons of the post-Henne era, Michigan has thrown 108 INTs. Let that number sink in for a minute. That's 15.4 per season with a low of 12 ('08) and a high of 19 ('12).

Average TD/INT ratio over that span: 17/15

Given a potentially elite defense, and an offense that may struggle a bit to find its way early on, I'll take the guy who has 25 B10 starts under his belt and threw only 5 INTs last year.

(that we all hope for wild success for whoever starts should go w/o saying)

Has looked awful prior to this year. A lot of arm strength but no touch. I don't know it's just my gut feeling. When you see him play he does not seem like a starting qb at all. I don't know how much a coach can change from one year to the next in a player but to me Shane just does not have it.

As the starter. I am all in for the entire new coaching staff. Whoever they select is all right with me. However, I have a problem with those who content that "Shane ie awful"......based on what? He was okay in the bowl game against a better team. Let's get real here.....the Team stunk and we did not lose because of Shane's performance. Again, the entire Team stunk against Minnesota last year. The QB was running for his life under extreme pressure from the Minnesota defense. Who would have performed better against that defense with our crappy o-line? Let's try is rather than ie....iPad typo.

Who is actively rooting against him beyond some anonymous jerks on message boards? The question with him was a never if he loves UM or wanted to succeed but if he had the ability to be a QB and not just a guy with a cannon.

Ok, this seems like a good spot to ask.  When Shane plays, does the whole line flip-flop because he's a lefty?  Or is there just more expected from the RT.  If so, it seems like that's an issue they'd have to practice.

Sounds like the two of them are pressing each other, which is great.  Whomever comes out on top, starts.  We should have a great backup to that guy this year.
