I went with official Maize. 255-203-5 on RGB.
but I am shocked at how many people picked Iowa Yellow.
Traitors.
EDIT: Apprently they were labeled before? I just picked the one that looked the right shade and it turned out to be the real UM maize.
The color previously labeled "Iowa Official Yellow" is in the middle of yellow-orange range, as well as being the middle choice in the data set. It is a statistically proven fact that human beings are most likely choose the middle option when presented with several choices.
That said, a lot people just don't realize (or maybe even like) how orange real maize is.
That explains a lot.

I didn't know it was Iowa's official yellow when I chose it. I always liked a yellow "maize" on Michigan apparel and in uniforms.
That shade just looks right!
For some reason I like Iowa's color its nice mix between the current darker maize vs the past lighter maize
I prefer the first option, but will not be upset if they go with a darker shade of yellow.

The reason I want the darker maize is the dumbest reason imaginable. I would like to be able to go outside for extended periods of time wearing my Michigan shirts without being molested by every bee within a mile of me.
. not only just bee but so many damn bugs! That what happened when you are living in the South... Wasp is even worst!
Is that caption in official maize?
No enough orange /s

dude i love your profile pic
I didn't see Dijon Mustard, which is pretty much the color of this years' student t-shirts.
This would have been a lot more interesting without the labels. Of course "official maize" is going to win.
Right we need the blind taste test.. er not blind-not-labled sight test
Good suggestion and it was changed; however, so many people already saw the original post. In about five minutes, there were over 300 votes.
Good call. For the record there were 196 votes for the official one before I changed it.
People can see what they voted for after they vote.
Go figure.
(And yes, I voted after you removed the labels.)
great plan. I voted after it was changed. Interesting seeing the breakdown AFTER, & just going with the eye test at first (I voted the nike T, guess darker is my preference)
I also voted for the Nike t-shirt color, but in all honesty there's not a huge difference between that and the real maize.
I pulled up a photo of the beloved Ricky Leach in action, matched the color and made my selection. The result was the 'washed out '70s' color. Go figure!
Well considering the very first comment gives the real one away...
I voted after the labels were removed. I picked Iowa yellow.
That one has gained a lot of votes since then. Official Maize is down like 20% since removing the labels
There's a reason... "Official Maize" is dull, in my opinion.
It's too bad Seth started with the labels. That pretty much ruins this unless we get substantial "after labels removed" data.
I took down the before and after. The only difference is a lot more votes have gone to Iowa--people are naturally moderates and that's the middle choice. I bet most people didn't realize Michigan's maize is darker than Iowa's, officially at least. On the football uniforms we've been lighter for quite some time.
I don't think I picked it because it was in the middle, I think I picked it because between that one and the official Maize, the Iowa yellow is brighter. It's bright while still being warm and without being highlighter colored.
Taking down the labels was a good move. My only other issue with this is that to my eye there are basically five bright yellows and two darker yellows. Votes from people who prefer the brighter yellow will get split five ways, while votes from people who prefer the darker yellow will only get split two ways.
It's A-MAIZE-ING

My man!
If you want to look just like everyone else that is generic "Blue and Yellow/Gold".
Why isn't there a "Whatever looks best on TV" option? Becuase that's why it keeps changing. hyper-whatever funky jerseys aside.

We're not yellow and blue, we're maize and blue. That light yellow just isn't a Michigan color.
the 200 looked very good to me with the blue. I'm way in the minority, but a purer yellow looks better to me then the orangy hue. Sthephenrjking's diary did a great job of comparing the yellows to other teams yellows, and I think the brighter yellow lookes better on the uniforms. Suprised Iowas yellow is less orangy than Michigan's official hue.

WolvinLA2, you do realize "maize" as the university has used it has been changing since they declared it a school color, correct? It used to be a light pastel yellow, originally.
Sing to the colors that float in the light;
Hurrah for the Yellow and Blue!
Yellow the stars as they ride through the night
And reel in a rollicking crew;
Yellow the field where ripens the grain
And yellow the moon on the harvest wain;
-Hail!
It may be "official" maize in a book somewhere, but it's not official Michigan maize as used by Michigan athletic teams for 100 years. That is a bright yellow, not an mustardy Iowa yellow.
Go walk around the Michigan football museum and see for yourself.
I think that color looks good in basketball terms. It would have especially lit up the old dark Crisler. With the new lighting at Crisler we dont need it quite as much but I agree in basketball its more snazzy - dont like it as much in football.
