OT but not Really - OSU has 3 of the Country's 4 Top Rated RBs in 2016
After the recent slew of commitments, went to check OSU's class which is currently 8 players. I was aware of Kareem Walker as the #1 RB in the class but somehow Meyer has landed 3 of the country's 4 top rated RBs? I know NC and all but damn dude.
They also have 4 of the top 70 players (per 247 composite) and 7 of their 8 are in the top 200. I know starz is not the end all be all but this looks like a serious Bama like haul already. Will be interesting if they retain all 3 RBs considering - in theory - RBs want to be "the man". Or at least 1 of 2 men.
Also speaks to the inherent advantage of being in Ohio - 2 of the country's top 4 RBs are in state. As is the country's #3 TE.
- Kareem Walker (NJ), #1 RB, #10 Overall
- DeMario McCall (OH), #3 RB, #49 Overall
- George Hill (OH), #4 RB, #63 Overall
- Jake Hausmann (OH), #3 TE, #70 Overall
- Terrell Hall (DC), #9 DE, #154 Overall
- Jonathan Cooper (OH), #10 DE, #165 Overall
- Tyler Gerald (FL), #5 OG, #189 Overall
- Kierre Hawkins (OH), #52 WR, #282 Overall
So yeah...Harbaugh and stuff.
That was buffoonery. Only topped by "I hope MSU beats Oregon since it helps Michigan's playoff chances when we beat MSU" - circa September 2014.
No one should be rooting for any good for these 2 programs. Ever. Root for friggin Nebraska or Iowa or Wisconsin if you want to get all Big 10ish.

after the 50th time that I was asked why I wasn't rooting for Ohio state in the Big Championship game, and the National Championship game by Ohio state fans. Them knowing full well that I am a life long Michigan fan.. this was the only form my face could make.
Do they honestly expect me to believe that if the tables were turned, and Michigan was in the National Championship game that they would go all Big Ten and root their bleeding hearts out for Michigan? Hell no... Most non Michigan fan's in the Big would be too busy sacraficing goats to satan just so Michigan would lose.
I always envisioned those people walking around with the tags still on their MSU football jerseys and OSU hats. Just the definition of bandwagon fans.
The only thing more hilarious is acting, after the fact, like you were brave or swimming against the tide.

You sound like you are scared of OSU.
some real wet, limp rags around here. As Yost posted there is only 1 football. JH is building an army of TE not slot recievers. Fuck osu. Fuck urban and Go Blue!
Makes the Weber drama all the more interesting.
what urbz said to resell him on OSU (and wilcher later for that matter) and then goes out and stacks the 2016 RB stable. . .
"I've had back-to-back 1500+ yard rushers. One was drafted in the 2nd round, and the other is a preseason Heisman contender."
the only difference was Toby wasn't at a football factory. . .
I thought they've had those 3 for awhile and all were top 5 rated RBs. At one point they had a couple other guys (including Falcon) who were high on them as well.
After that run of games but Elliott at the end of the year, OSU capitalized. All this does is ensure they'll have a great RB for 3-4 years. There's only one FB.
I'd rather them have the top RBs than 3 of the top 4 OL.
It was news to me. I didn't realize it. I doubt any program has hauled in 3 of the country's 4 RBs (if they can retain all 3).
...that's what is so weird.
I believe they only had Walker and Hill at that point, but your overall point still stands that it was weird how Weber's recruitment really went down.
I know for a fact that he wanted to go to Michigan at the end and Meyer and his staff used the Higdon recruitment to spook him and say we were lying. Turns out hours later it was them lying and the rest is history.
But at this point he's a Buckeye so I have no sympathy for the kid.

McCall commited recently per 247. Plus they still have Weber.
But yea, they were in the mix for like 5-6 of the top guys. At the end of the day, it sucks because usually we'd get one of the regional kids, but it's not like all of these guys can play at once. And if they do, they all can't carry the rock at once. So we just know we'll likely have to deal with OSU having an elite level RB for awhile. That's to be expected at this point.
Fuck em.
Alabama would argue differently - you can have 2 elite RBs. So would Auburn under (wait for it) Borges.
Just saying you can only play one at a time.
Even if you're subbing an elite RB, whatever. That's just the mark of a great program. I mean we have a nice stable of RBs on paper, but they haven't panned out - plus you need an OL and a QB who can back those guys out of the box.
If you're playing an elite team - and OSU is an elite team - it is to be expected that they have an elite RB. So whether it's one guy or 3 pan out, you're only dealing with one at a time.
Just like there QB situation right now. They don't get bonus points for having 3 QBs all way better than anything Michigan has. 2 of them will just signal in plays if they're still around.
Yes they can wear you down with multiple RBs, but whatever, I repeat...if you're playing OSU you need to expect that every snap has an elite RB. Whether it's 1 guy or 5 different guys rotating.
I'll take this over when they were hoarding all of the top DL in the country.
Minnesoda circa what 2002, lawrence maroney and marion barber?
It would be like having 3 top notch QBs who all want to be a starter on a NC level team. No one could make that work.
wait....
I agree. This year will have more "ego" involved. I am actually shocked Miller is sticking around - he has the worst arm and is the most 1 dimensional. And he can transfer without sitting out. I would have him 3rd on my depth chart if I was Urban - the other 2 guys open up the passing game much more.
But talk about 1st world problems - Big 10 player of the year is your 3rd best QB.
There is only 1 football though.
McCall is projected to do what they did to Dontre Wilson/Jalin Marsahll, more of an H-Back hybrid WR/RB. It would't shock me if both Hill and McCall play a hybrid role. Walker seems to be the only one who will purely be a running back.
OSU has always had a ton of talent at RB, but it doesn't always pan out. See Rod Smith and Brionte Dunn. It's still early in the year and there may be some rethinking about playing time from the log jam.
Yep but your odds increase exponentially when you have 3 chances. And for all those guys you mention you don't mention a Beanie Wells type. You can fail 3x as long as you succeed once at that position. This is really stacking odds in your favor.
I wonder what Mike Weber thinks since he is not too keen on competition.
but I've come to expect OSU to always have a good RB on the field. The state is a breeding ground for good running backs.
Wouldn't surprise me if Urban picks up kids just so we can't have him.
It's not like he has a scholarship limit to worry about.
It's a safe bet that either Weber or one of these 3 RBs end up leaving the program for "medical reasons" in the next 3-4 years. Gotta open up scholarships somehow!

They recruit very well, especially given that 5 of the 8 recruits are from in-state. That said, I also wonder if Ohio is one of the few elite programs that really does seem to be a good place for RBs to land; clearly the NFL holds a dimmer view of position than even 5-6 years ago, but in Columbus it seems like Meyer's offense welcomes you with open arms. My hope is that Harbaugh is able to do the same, as having an elite running games still seems like a viable strategy in college.
All the more reason why we need highly rated/offered recruits. Harbaugh needs to up our recruiting from even Hoke's classes. Rashan Gary would be a nice centerpiece.
Good recruits are highly rated and offered besides the several flyers that Saban or Meyer and Harbaugh will presumably take. No team has ever won a national championship without a top 10 class. If we don't care about winning a national championship or beating Urban Meyer regularly then it doesn't matter.
