hackett is too smart to make the OSU game at night

I'm under the impression that November night games are prohibited in the B1G.

Sparty played them this season. Also, if Bama and Auburn can play at night, we could survive a night game against them in Ann Arbor.

But I think traditionally it's kind of been the conference's conventional wisdom to not play November night games, due to the potential for freezing temperatures. But it happened this season twice. Ohio State had Illinois at home at night on Nov 1, and Michigan State played Ohio State at home at night on Nov 8. I think from here on out we'll see more night games in November, though. If the Mountain West doesn't have a problem with it, when you have teams like Boise State and Air Force playing late night games in single digit weather, then the Big Ten should not, either.

It's an unwritten "Bo" rule... Bo could tell ABC to eff off and they would listen.
February 1st, 2015 at 4:46 PM ^
The Big Ten does not have any rule about November night games. The rule did exist at one time (up until ~2009, IIRC), but not anymore. Conference TV arrangements make it difficult, apparently, but not impossible. I'm not sure how the Big 10 does things differently in that regard than other conferences, but that's apprently the deal.

I'd rather both be at 3:30, but if I had to choose one, I'd pick MSU to be the night game because of the very reason you just stated.

if the rest of the country can handle rivalry night games, I'm not sure why UM can't handle it.

A late November night game? And THAT one, in particular? Nope. Ain't gonna happen.
My bet would be MSU here, for sure.
I thought initially that it might be BYU or Oregon State. Although, sure...when you say "Michigan vs. Michigan State, UNDER ALL THE LIGHTZ!" it does carry a bit more of the "oooh/ahhh" factor than, say, either of the latter two.
Oregon State, though, would mean a night game home opener, which would be (kinda) cool.

Are you suggesting there is a rule against November night games? If so, there isn't one.

Like everyone else in the world, no way to OSU. I'm not sure why that's ever even rumored or considered. I don't know anyone who would be happy with that.

Good night sparty. This would be a big statement game for Harbaugh if they play msu at night.
and I agree hell no to ohio at night. That game needs to always be played in daylight. I don't know why, it just does.

Of course its not. YCou guys don't have a reason to be so antagonistic...but a UM win in CBus at night pffft...all hell would break lose.
February 1st, 2015 at 2:36 PM ^
It will be MSU. Ohio is too late in the year, but what do I know.
February 1st, 2015 at 2:39 PM ^
Hackett seems to be too in tune with the fanbase and tradition to mess with OSU. The only conclusion here is that he is blatantly telling the knowledgeable fanbase that the MSU game will be at night in 2015.
February 1st, 2015 at 3:55 PM ^
I, too, love the tradition of UM-OSU, but could you imagine a matchup like 2006 played in prime time? Yes, please!
Obviously, the stakes would rarely be that high, but that would be something special.

I hate using this argument as it makes no sense. Other rivals do it every year and they seem to come out of it just fine. Will we need extra security? Yeah probably. But who cares? It's a night game and gives Harbaugh a chance to show his team off in prime time, potentially make a statement win as well.

And all of those schools are doing it in locales that don't have a good chance of snow and/or frostbite for a night game. But, OK.

a night game is ever pulled off in Green Bay with snow and frost bite worries.

Wow. You are VERY concerned about the cold. Stay home. The other 113,000 won't miss you.

and believe me, it can get just as cold at night here in November than anywhere else. Throw on 3-4 layers, a hoodie, a beanie (balaclava if it's that bad), some gloves, and 2-3 pairs of socks and you're good.
