Muchamp to Auburn as DC
Well that hurts the DC search as Muschamp and Pelini are now off the table.

The Iron bowl is going to be extremely interesting the next few years at least.

This was the first time since '07 ESPN broadcast the Iron Bowl, and CBS will most likely have the game again for the next several years. CBS normally has the game, but they opted to use their first pick on SEC games to broadcast that week on the Egg Bowl because at the time they had to pick games to broadcast, the Egg Bowl was looking like a top 5 matchup. ESPN lucked into the Iron Bowl being the best game of the week, and promoted it as such.
But you know, don't let facts get in the way of your ESPN hate.

The thought of Auburn with an elite defense is scary. I am betting Bama fans aren't very happy right now.

He wouldn't stay more than a year anywhere before taking a new HC gig. His record at Nebraska was too good for that not to happen.

are reporting that Pelini is the desired replacement of Chryst.

It would be nice to get Harbaugh here so the Michigan-Ohio State game could have playoff implications like the Iron bowl. Meyer vs Harbaugh would be second to none.

I'm just looking forward to Harbaugh/Dantonio
Imagain the end of game handshakes!!

That was last year.
Joking aside, it is good for Auburn and football overall. Saban won't have automoatic qualfication for the final 4 then.

This shows that Auburn doesn't screw around. They fired their DC after only 2 years under Malzahn.

I'm pretty sure that's not how you spell Muschamp.

It looks like a good hire for Auburn.

1.6 to 1.8 million?! Holy hell. It doesn't seem like it was that long ago when coaches were getting paid that. Hell a ton of power 5 conference coaches don't make that much.

December 13th, 2014 at 9:01 AM ^
According to Bruce Feldman, Muschamp will make more than 62 head coaches. Which is crazy. Worth it, but crazy.

I don't know anymore but I'm pretty sure not that long ago Auburn's athletic department was in the red. With the way coaches get hired and fired these days this can't last. They're still paying Chizik $200,000 a month.

$200,000 a month until the 2015-16 season is over

That's why money should not be an issue with Harbaugh. Pay the man what he wants. In a couple years, top level head coaches will be making $8-10 million a year.
December 12th, 2014 at 10:57 PM ^
This is a nice move by Auburn, in my estimation, and for the money they supposedly, it's worth it. As someone mention, this makes the Iron Bowl a very intriguing game on paper now and I am pretty sure Muschamp could hold his own in the SEC in this particular role. Supposedly, Muschamp was in the running for the Houston HC position, but this is definitely the better fit.

So Saban to Michigan? I would not want to face that.
December 12th, 2014 at 11:15 PM ^
Things would get interesting though if Saban gets beaten a couple of years in a row.
December 13th, 2014 at 12:43 AM ^
Kind of like how Saban lost to Michigan three times in a row: '96, '97, and '98.
Went to 2 of those games. Jesus, we were good back then.
You can't return to the past. You can only move forward: Harbaugh......

May God help the rest of the college football souls. This is a great hire by Auburn as you have arguably one of the best offensive minds in Malzahn and now you give the defense to one of the best defensive minds who is used to coaching against the SEC. I think Saban and Kiffin are probably 1A, but Malzahn and Muschamp are easily even or atleast 1B.
December 13th, 2014 at 12:10 AM ^
Saban has four national titles. No coach alive is even with Saban.
December 13th, 2014 at 12:21 AM ^
My point was as a whole Malzahn and Muschamp are close to Kiffin and Saban. Saban is hands down the best head coach in all of college football, but Malzahn is a very good head coach given his track record and Muschamp as a defensive coach is probably pretty close to Kiffin as an OC. Yes, it's probably premature calling them equal, but we haven't seen what they're capable of yet as he was just hired. On paper, Malzahn and Muschamp are one of the two to three best HC / coordinator combinations in the country.
