Guys have really tough decisions to make, and go back-and-forth usually up until the last minute. Case in point: Beilein said he was unsure about whether to stay at Canisius or take the Richmond job within a few minutes of his self-imposed deadline. On a drive, he saw a sign for Richmond, IN, and the rest is history.
I don't think any of these reporters are lying, but these coaching change situations are best viewed as "I'll believe it when I see it."

I haven't followed the NFL in years; when did coaches start getting "traded"? I have never heard of a coach being traded before.

it's only applicable in the very rare case of a successful head coach wanting to leave his job and them not wanting to let him out of his contract.
