Friday Night Shut-ins Stay Warm: What are you drinking?

Submitted by WildcatBlue on
The world has changed since our last Shut-in thread. Gone are summer warmth, autumn leaves, and the afterglow of Notre Dame. We have cause to drink, and nerves to dull before the most important Purdue game in living memory. So: what are you drinking, and is it nice? Also, preemptively: HOLD ON TO THE DAMN BALL. Forgot to add: I'm on a Labatt Blue, soon switching to hot spiced apple cider and brandy. It's nice.

My contribution to the wife's post-partum weight loss program. And watching DVR'd eps of Bones and three Sheets while gametracking hockey. Not good in the hockey. Down 2-0, halfway 1st period.

About the same as Blue Light (110 cal). When I did my yearly tour of the Boston Sam Adams brewery this spring, the bald bearded guy from the commercials was working, and I asked him how they keep the taste so good on the light beer. He told me that essentially since Sam Adams is so hoppy to begin with and has the bold flavor, they really don't have to change the recipe or water down the light recipe much-- just slightly change the grains content and fermentation time to cut down the sugars and alcohol content. Anything else would have been a state secret. But he did say they spent about 3 years trying to get the light recipe right, and some of the other light recipes they tried that weren't successful ranged from so different they wouldn't have sold, to -- his words-- "more bland than koala piss in a can"

No, thank Larry. Larry Bell. (But don't have your girlfriend thank him. He might take it the wrong way.) BTW, a bar near my house has a free (!) happy hour every Friday. Right now their only Bell's variety is Winter Ale, my least favorite. Can't wait for Two Hearted to return.

Captain and Coke is the drink tonight. For some reason, Meijer had handles of Captain for $20, but the fifths were still $15? Sounded good to me even though I'm more of a whiskey person. Got one handle for me and one handle for the tailgate tomorrow.

While on my beer tour in August I met some folks from Philly. We made a trade. They gave me this stuff for a flaskful of Knickerbocker gin (made at New Holland Brewery... stuff is absolutely amazing). Imperial Stout in a can. Only had one can so I didn't shotgun it but...... think of the possibilities. Shotgun marathon!!! = death

Keweenaw Brewing Companies' Pick Axe Blonde Ale. Brewed up in South Range Mi., the pub is in Houghton. Microbrew in a can $6.79 a sixpack and it's great.
