Who Will Be the Next Michigan Football Play-by-Play Announcer
Longtime play-by-play broadcaster for Michigan Football, Frank Beckmann, announced his retirement last August. To date, no replacement has been named and I have heard virtually no speculation.
Any rumors or speculation out there as to who will be the new voice of Michigan Football?
Is there anyone who you would or would not like to hear in the booth?
Regarding Matt Shepard, about a week ago someone asked him on Twitter if there was any truth to him doing the U-M football play-by-play, and he replied, "no truth to that."
Not saying that's a definitive answer, but that's about all I've seen as far as anyone publicly addressing this.
Keith Jackson knows the game, but you just know what Casey would say after each time out.
what's the word... ponderous!
Keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the Rose Bowl.
Wayne State, great school!
"Little brother!!". Best broadcasting moment since "Do you believe in miracles?".
I will be applying for the position.
Didn't say any of those things. Simply said I don't want a Michigan State alumnus commentating Michigan football games.

If he's doing play-by-play and checks his allegience at the door, so what? George Blaha is a Notre Dame and U-M alum, but you'd never know it by the way he calls the games for Sparty.
It's a qualitative judgment. If Michigan chooses to go with Doug Karsch, then so be it. I'm sure he'd do fine. But putting scholastic background aside, I think there are much better choices than Doug Karsch. I'd prefer someone with a more established play-by-play career. Factor in his background as an MSU alumnus, and I'd prefer Michigan go in another direction for the play-by-play spot.
Ok, you can't have it both ways. Either his alma mater matters or it doesn't. Pick one.
I've been listening to Doug Karsch since his early days at WTKA in the mid-90s, and he's a more devoted and knowledgeable UM fan than many UM grads are.
The fact that he's an MSU grad doesn't mean squat in terms of his qualifications.
MSU fans have every reason in the world to hate Doug Karsch. His Michigan fandom is offensive to both parties. He should have worked to get into UM or gone somewhere else other than a blood rival.
You're seriously asserting that Doug Karsch's Michigan fandom is offensive to Michigan fans?
Where are you getting this dingleberry nonsense? The voices in your head?
I don't care if you don't think he's the best choice for play-by-play; I think Doug's great at covering UM sports, but I don't think he's the best choice for PBP myself, because I don't think he's got a voice made for it.
But to criticize his support for Michigan athletics because of his degree from MSU is idiotic.

Dammit...
Mind. Blown.
Why don't they call up one of Bob Ufer's sons? It could be genetic.
but I do not think Matt Sheppard should be the play-bplay guy. I think he is boring, and has no distinguishable voice at all. Just my opinion. On the opposite end, I can't stand Dan Miller. He's WAY too animated and over-the-top.
Can Brian Griese do PBP, or is he just a color guy? He has a voice similar to his dad.

Keep, uh, loving that chicken.
A man can dream, right?
Really not a big fan of Shepherd's style, no matter how nice a guy he is. The guy's ability to clearly describe the action to a radio listener leaves much to be desired.
Ian Darke.
Get Tom Hemingway out of retirement.
Its times like this that I wish I would have stayed in Radio. I would rock this job.
Have a feeling that if it was Shephard or Karsch, they would have already announced it by now.
