Dug McDaniel will now be allowed to play road games again
One of the weirdest suspensions ever is over with McDaniel back for the final two road games of the year.

Great! Just in time to save the season.
February 28th, 2024 at 12:28 AM ^
Bodes well for him sticking around, right? They are nearly watchable in games where he plays.
February 28th, 2024 at 1:04 AM ^
I would bet a hamburger that he gone.
February 28th, 2024 at 6:04 AM ^
and i'm diming you off to the NCAA with that illegal 'hamburger' offer. busted. can't you see the player safety issue you create with that?
February 28th, 2024 at 8:29 AM ^
Yeah, but would you bet a cheeseburger? Or does that up the ante too much?
February 28th, 2024 at 9:11 AM ^
What kind of madness are you planning? That could be the end of the universe as we know it.
February 28th, 2024 at 10:46 AM ^
Cheese on a burger is allowed. Just not CREAM cheese... on a bagel.
(Remember that NCAA nonsense? True story.)

Dug McDonald's?
February 28th, 2024 at 2:26 AM ^
Only way he comes back is if Michigan gets a new coach that can convince him to stay. Sucks because you can imagine how awesome it'd be to watch him play on a good team. And he's so undersized you know you're getting 4 years of him.
February 28th, 2024 at 6:59 AM ^
There’s no way he sticks around next year unless Michigan brings in a new coach who somehow convinces him to stay.
I just don’t see what incentive he has to stay. He’s got academic issues and has already been suspended for them, the team stinks and it may be even worse (talent wise) next year. He’s a pretty Good player, and he’ll have options in the off-season. I have to believe he’s gonna want to go play for a winner, as well as a place that is a little bit more lenient on its academics.
February 28th, 2024 at 10:22 AM ^
We have 2 really good players coming in next year and another top 150 guy. Anderson and the other guy who is almost a 5 star ranked around 24th and CA will be ranked way higher after his outstanding season at OAK Hill.

I have significantly cooled on McDaniel. He was a pretty shiny new object to begin with, but he has rusted pretty fast. He has "back to back threes" down pretty good but he does not have much other than that. A vast majority of the times I have turned off Michigan games this year have come immediately after a completely ridiculous McDaniel turnover. He is also not a "stable" leader on the court. He frequently pouts for not insignificant stretches of play and it brings the entire team down. I am not saying the kid does not have talent, but I once thought that the next couple of years of Michigan basketball could be built around what he has to offer but I no longer think that.
February 28th, 2024 at 12:08 PM ^
He never developed the necessary hook shot.
February 28th, 2024 at 12:35 PM ^
Gotta at least have it in the arsenal. Even Eli Brooks could go to it when absolutely necessary.
February 28th, 2024 at 5:17 PM ^
Remember Darius Morris? Dude could ball. Good leadership, too.
February 28th, 2024 at 12:40 AM ^
Oh good...ready to go on a run.
February 28th, 2024 at 12:44 AM ^
Big ten tourney champs! If it’s not clear this is sarcasm…..please offer Juwan a nice retirement check to heal from surgery and nuke the entire team and start fresh
February 28th, 2024 at 12:46 AM ^
Remember, this is the price we paid for sacrificing the basketball team to the sports gods for a football championship.
Weird shit is just gonna happen until the sports gods extract their price.
February 28th, 2024 at 5:42 AM ^
As far as I'm concerned, the sports gods can make that a recurring debit as long as football keeps winning.
February 28th, 2024 at 8:24 AM ^
They operate cyclically - football died in order to give us the John Beilein years. Now it has moved the other way.

I mean I know we are kind of joking here, but in all seriousness there is zero reason or excuse for UM not to have a good football and basketball program. Anything else is setting way too low of a bar for either.

This is our last hope….for the 13 seed.
February 28th, 2024 at 1:05 AM ^
Yeah….in the B1G tournament.

We got them right where we want them. Let the winning streak begin.

Fire Warde. Fire Juwan.

Like I've said in most basketball posts ... win out, and we're national champs.

It's our destiny. No one controls it.

We got a great shot now to have double digit wins this season. Awesome!

Well now, this is awkward.
February 28th, 2024 at 6:04 AM ^
Watched him VS Msu throw some of the most wild passes I've ever seen a P5 D1 PG make. No way this guy is being "coached".
February 28th, 2024 at 1:16 PM ^
This good news the same way that it was exciting for Knicks fans when Frank Ntilikina played his rookie season and made a shot. He's not good, but the team's gonna win like 12 games and may as well have something weird happen if we're not gonna win
February 28th, 2024 at 7:31 AM ^
Fine with him leaving
February 28th, 2024 at 8:18 AM ^
Usual suspects.

This is about as valuable as the message I received from AT&T stating they will reduce my monthly bill by a whole $5 this billing cycle due to the outage.
In seriousness though, I've liked Dug as a player and I thought his trajectory seemed pretty good at the beginning of the year. He struck me as one of those 4 year guys who by the time they reach their senior year, they are in national awards discussions. I was thinking of a guy like Frank Mason at Kansas as a comparison. A player who played a lot of basketball and probably didn't project to the NBA, but would be a top-level college PG. Unfortunately for us, he may still do that but more than likely will do that elsewhere. There will be a heck of a market for his services. He is an experienced college PG from a major conference who probably is a 2-year player for a new team. That is something that a ton of teams will be in the market for, and they can confidently tell him that there will not be any academic concerns to worry about.
February 28th, 2024 at 9:53 AM ^
Why does everyone assume he's leaving? Has he said anything about leaving? Maybe he grows from this and wants to get a UM degree.
February 28th, 2024 at 9:36 AM ^
Gotta keep in mind, these are kids and Juwan is basically a parent while they're away from home. I haven't really followed the story but this is a blog so my take is Dug made a bad decision and violated some sort of rule when on the road, like no girls or something.
February 28th, 2024 at 9:39 AM ^
Every rumor is academic related. Like "wasn't attending class so is staying back on away games to focus on academics" type stuff.
February 28th, 2024 at 9:36 AM ^
Tickets for the home / conference season finale are available for $4 / ticket. My question is - are those overpriced?
February 28th, 2024 at 9:49 AM ^
Great. Now we can lose by 5 instead of 15.
February 28th, 2024 at 10:00 AM ^
We should enjoy watching him over these last few games. I’d be very surprised if he didn’t transfer. A 3rd year Dug would be a great addition to a contending team.
February 28th, 2024 at 10:05 AM ^
Who knows, maybe the team plane will slide off the end of the runway and they'll have to play the B10 tournament in their practice gear. It could happen.
February 28th, 2024 at 10:06 AM ^
Dug has a lot to work on in his game and approach. Michigan may have actually beat Purdue had he not tried to go hero ball so many times in the second half.
Most coaches at good programs will not put up with the volume of turnovers, wild shots, unwillingness to drive and dish, and defensive issues.
If Dug does transfer, it will probably be a rough transition for him and the next coach as Dug learns to play on a team with different expectations.
