Freshmen Participation Tracker after 8 Games
Nothing supremely interesting in the participation this week. Everyone whose redshirt was already burned played. No other freshmen did. It will be interesting if any of the one to three-game participants get in the next couple games against Rutgers and Nebraska.
I've added a couple of details to the list:
- Three non-freshmen who had not yet redshirted are now at the bottom of the list as Seth requested.
- In looking at the player data spreadsheet Seth posted in the comments last time, I started to wonder if freshmen recruiting rankings were correlated with redshirting or not. Therefore, thanks to Seth's data there is a column with each Freshmen's recruiting stars as calculated by Seth
- "WO" after their star rating = walk-on indicated on Seth's spreadsheet.
- "Not listed" means their names weren't on Seth's spreadsheet.
As always,
Go Blue.

No, what happened?

[Considers making a remark about Keith Jackson but doesn't because that bit is played out. It's done, man!] No, what happened?

What about Keith Jackson? I heard he's still calling games in the PAC 10...

Johnson played quite a bit I think, seemed to have Reed locked down a couple times.

He did! WJohnson was beating the crap out of Coleman at the line, and Rod Moore helped take him deep. It was a great adjustment by Minter at halftime to get more size on him than either Turner or Green can bring to the table. Coleman couldn't outrun or out jump Johnson or Moore!

Super interesting stuff as always. After a pillow soft start where basically everyone got in for snaps, it looks like that Michigan is largely looking to preserve the majority of the class's redshirts, with the exception of the 9 regulars that have established themselves. To my eye, Pollard is the only major surprise on that list, but I'm presuming he's established himself as a key special teams guy.
The other major standout is Hill-Green still having 0 games logged this season. Crazy how initially the thought was that LB was the one position where we couldn't afford a key injury, and yet he's been held out the entire year thus far. Wondering if at this point if he's still working through his injury (soft-tissue is always lingering) or if he's just being withheld to preserve the redshirt. Regardless, Colson/Barrett/Mullings/Rolder have all held up in his absence (to varying degrees of success based on UFR), so we'll see when his return will be.
Also, one that's not on the list, but is basically a lock: Erick All hasn't redshirted and given he'll be recovering from back surgery, will have this year count as his redshirt year (3 games played). Assuming there's no long term issues, it should leave the door open if he's looking to return to get a full year of game film for NFL scouts next year, though would totally understand if he makes the move to the next level given what he's already managed to show.

I didn't add All because Harbaugh said, I think in a press conference, that All will be redshirting so that one was guaranteed.

I read in one of the threads someone saying that he could be back for NEB game.

The name that jumps out to me who has burned their redshirt but not been discussed much is Micah Pollard. I think he plays on special teams a lot, but you'd think the staff has to be be confident in his development at LB/EDGE to burn his redshirt, right?
October 30th, 2022 at 10:07 PM ^
He plays a ton of special teams (as you mentioned) and he's already a young leader on the team.
Coaches think so highly off him they had him address the team after a practice during fall camp.
Future captain.

Interesting, didn't know this

I'd like to see Zeke Berry get some run in these next 3 games and get him his four.
That kid is going to be a star.

Agree...I'd really love to see some of these skill guys get some important snaps. It's really crazy and one of the most excited I've been about a freshman class. They could be special and we need some of them to make a leap next year...and some of them are going to play a critical role in the home stretch this year.

We have some freshman that have really impressed me and could really take a huge step next year. I know he hasn't played a lot but I think stokes could be a great back. He has the juice and hopefully takes that year one to two leap.
Mason Graham...holly crap. Will Johnson is going to be awesome too.
Really excited for this group of freshman they could be damn good!

NHG...I feel terrible for him. Sound like it just truly is a hamstring and these things happen with hamstrings I mean look at osu they are having the same issue. It really just sucks he has already missed 2/3 of the year and I doubt he plays the next couple weeks.
You wonder how it will work out or if we will be back this year. He is true Junior I believe?
