If you take the per 40 stats for Faulds and John's, Faulds would average more points, rebounds and less turnovers for last season. I would strongly argue that Faulds gave more valuable minutes than John's did this year.

Yes, it's also using counting stats which are misleading and useless (even when brought up to per 40).  Faulds had an abysmal 41% true shooting percentage.  Johns wasn't great but was at 45%.  Faulds box plus/minus was a whopping -5.1.  Johns was -0.3.

Faulds came in and gave some decent minutes in some tough spots but he's way worse than Johns.  Also, Johns clearly just had a down year for some reason.  Was much better the last two seasons.  Can happens when you have a small sample size of shots and playing time.

I always wondered how much the crowd impacted his play.  He was great his junior year, especially down the stretch, when there weren't any fans in the crowd.  I know guys in the NBA talked about how certain players shined in the bubble partly because there was no crowd.

This is an excellent point.  Stage fright is a real thing in basketball, particularly on wide open catch and shoot shots.  It feels like an eternity as the ball is being passed to you and all you're thinking is gotta hit this, gotta hit this, gotta hit this (at least for people like me who are generally in our heads).

You're super aware that everyone is watching you in that moment as well.  It's doubly tough to come off the bench knowing you need to make those few shots that you're going to get if you want more time.

The rest of the game is all in the flow and instinctual (except FTs too) but it's those moments where it has an effect.

Its surprising to me that after all this time of coming up short - let’s call it what it is - that he is continuing on with his collegiate career. I want to see him be successful because he is obviously very talented but it seems like the only way to reach his potential is to go somewhere with very little spotlight. He seems to shrink in the big moments. Maybe a MAC school or a Dayton would be a good fit.

Hope he finds success wherever he goes. He always had flashes where he showed you what he could be, but it never seemed to materialize on a consistent basis on the court.

I don’t assume he has an NBA future, but if he wants to keep playing, I hope he finds an opportunity to go somewhere where he can showcase his skills more consistently and earn an overseas contract.

I think Johns has the chance to have a really good graduate transfer season somewhere. I don't think he needs to go to a MAC or similar level school either. He just needs a situation where he comes in as the starting 4 at a school without a whole lot of depth at the position. Johns biggest issues have been confidence and consistency. He really has shown the ability to do a lot of things on the court and really did a fine job when Livers went down. If he is essentially guaranteed 30+ minutes a game I think he'd really make less mistakes and be a plus player on a competitive team.

Thank you Brandon for your role on so many winning teams & best of luck next season.
