Heard we're also in the mix for Colin Longley, Milos Kukoc, Ty Hodges, and Blake Kerr. No word yet on blue-chip mascot Billy the Bull.

I was thinking the same and…

I was thinking the same and I do live in LA...  would be fun to stop by with my kids. But... I'm guessing they waited to release this video until after he'd moved into his actual house. And even if not, I bet there is a very brief window between when he gets home at 8-9pm and when he is asleep. I guess just listen for the Rockford Files theme song?

Haha, happy to have him here in the city, though. I've never been interested in the NFL or the Chargers, but might go to a game now. Now he just needs to draft JJ!

I'd heard about this story, but this video is kind of amazing. Thanks for posting!

Great article! I had a few interactions with Phil and he was one of the most engaged, high-quality people I've ever encountered in the sports world. (Rudy Tomjanovich, Desmond Howard, and boxer/mayor Vitali Klitschko are among the others.)

Phil deserves a job that excites his basketball IQ and allows him to "give back" while also giving him time to watch his sons coach and his grandsons play ball. Thanks for your time in Ann Arbor, Coach!

Personally, I'm not sure how…

Personally, I'm not sure how huge a deep NCAA run factors into many players' decision-making. It's obviously fun to win games, and a standout performance in the NCAA can put you on the map, but Michigan offers year-round visibility for a player hoping for a long pro career (especially for levels below the NBA, i.e. Europe, etc.), plus a valuable Michigan degree. I think the starters' minutes is big, too, as well as playing for a coach they know and like, and with a couple former teammates. If the NIL disparity isn't a massive gulf, Michigan would seem appealing for many, I'd think...

I'd say a championship is…

I'd say a championship is most likely, anything short of that and we should fire Bud Middaugh again.

I'm a big thrift store / yard sale guy. Mainly look for odd vintage t-shirts, music cassettes since my truck has a tape deck, intriguing books, and sports gear for the kids... but often make other fun discoveries. I like that I can go on a shopping spree for like 10 - 20 bucks.

Agreed. My friend Dan …

Agreed. My friend Dan (Chelsea MI native) has been running this cool pool for 20+ years. You get extra points for picking higher-numbered (lower) seeds to win. I think the weighting is perfect: it rewards upsets, but you still need to pick well in Final Four to win the pool.

Great point - hadn't thought…

Great point - hadn't thought through that part of it. And taking a perennial doormat and turning them into a competitive team year in, year out is a point in his favor. OK, sign me up...

I'm on board and am sure he…

I'm on board and am sure he's capable, maybe even a bright talent... but to me his Colorado St record is not especially impressive. Had a great 2 year stretch when he had 1-2 marginal NBA talents, then has sunk back down to mediocre (look at conference record vs season record). That said, he also did some great stuff at Furman... and I'm not sure who else would be much better. Does he have any 5-star sons making college decisions soon? /s

Thanks for pointing out the initials thing! Me -- and my son -- are also DRs, but never made the connection!

Don't forget Tamir Goodman,…

Don't forget Tamir Goodman, the "Jewish Jordan." Starred at Towson and was considered a pro prospect. Mostly played overseas.

X-cellent to see X to the Z still excelling! Love that dude.

GRIII probably doesn't need the dough. Some players prefer to live Stateside and be more readily available for a call-up (even if his isn't coming soon).

That said Jalen is probably…

That said Jalen is probably my #1 UM bball player ever, and that's saying a lot given my love for Burke, Walton, Rumeal, Rice, Mo Taylor, Duncan, Nik, etc.

Good call on Crawford!

Good call on Crawford!

Jalen's listed height was 6'8"... you're right he was probably 6'6" - 6'7" (plus great hops).

Tom Brady.

Dude threw 40 picks in the playoffs, then went out a loser in his final game -- not to mention 13 playoff losses throughout his career. Can't ignore his success here and there but was inconsistent and mistake-prone. For all the expectations, gotta consider him a major Tony Mandarich-level bust.

Not revealing anything…

Not revealing anything secret... in another recent thread, XM shared some memories of his days on the hockey team just before Red B. took over. Modestly, he claimed to be mostly a bench player but he may have been minimizing his role. But yes, between the law enforcement career breaking up L.A.'s notorious 1980s gangs, life on the farm in N. Michigan, and raising a whole brood of kids right, I take inspiration from this guy. We don't always see eye to eye on every single topic, but I think he's got fatherhood (and life) nailed impressively. This Devin Bush move on the Sparty logo? Icing on the cake.

Thanks XM! That coincides with my read of the play, but I didn't know if the rules differed between college and pros, etc. Several HUGE tough plays/ tough calls down the stretch there... Guess I'll go back to my Rose Bowl highlights :)

I know next to nothing about…

I know next to nothing about the NFL, but had a question: On that long play where their receiver caught that fluke-y bomb that bounced off our CB, there was a flag. Was the flag for P.I.? Or something else? If it had been P.I., would they have gotten the ball at the spot anyway? I guess in my mixed-up way, I was trying to measure how completely pivotal that fluke play was... or if the result there would've been the same. Thanks for any insight!

Yeah, in my days (early 90s)…

Yeah, in my days (early 90s), if you were in-state, had decent grades and test scores, you were almost a shoo-in. I remember being happy I got in, but it wasn't a dramatic moment.

FWIW, my friends who didn't get in all went to WCC for 1 - 2 years and then transferred in. Different era, perhaps...

Good luck to all those parents out there! My 5 year old son insists he's going to Michigan, so I'll be going through this in 12 years!

Here's the thing: While…

Here's the thing: While going forward o$u may be a stronger team head to head vs UM, now with the new 12 team playoff a loss to them... well, it kind of doesn't matter as much. Any team will have to beat 3 - 4 solid teams in the playoffs. Playoff position matters, but not that much. You still have to grind out some wins to win it all.

I'm still confident that we'll beat them often enough, but even if some seasons we don't, we should safely be in the playoffs and have the chance to make a run. The stakes just are not what they were this season and have been in the past.

EVENTFUL week - wow! Mikey is gonna be a GREAT Dad. Love these videos and getting such enjoyable behind-the-scenes time with the team. Made this season even more special.

Great nugget about Due# from…

Great nugget about Due# from article that came out when Harbaugh was hired (not putting him on blast but I see his name mentioned elsewhere in this thread)

"John Duerr was a walk-on outside linebacker who played with Harbaugh at Michigan. He was born in southern California. When Harbaugh and Andy Moeller decided they wanted to head west for a vacation after their final season, Duerr let them roam the Pacific coast in his old, green Volkswagen van, which has become forever known as the "Lime Green Love Machine."

I think it's interesting that the list of past scores includes updated rankings for our opponents, instead of their rankings at the time, which is how I often see it listed. Kind of cool to get a better sense of how the season lays out, in hindsight...
