This is the part where we all freak out and certain posters start talking about how much such-and-such guy sucks and how the offense is just standing around too much and do these guys even get coached?
AND THEN we miraculously turn it on and win big. And then we neg the shit out of those posters...
Right?
February 26th, 2014 at 7:52 PM ^
Absolutely right
February 26th, 2014 at 7:53 PM ^
We're not going to "win big." We have to make up a 13 point deficit in 20 minutes.
We're not going to outscore them by 25 in this half.
February 26th, 2014 at 7:59 PM ^
Thanks for playing along!
February 26th, 2014 at 7:50 PM ^
Man, I usually don't read these open threads, now I knoiw why. You guys are ridiculous.
February 26th, 2014 at 7:55 PM ^
the Big Ten against a shit team is all sunshine and rainbows.
February 26th, 2014 at 7:56 PM ^
To an extent yes, but we were down 19 to a terrible Purdue team which is pretty inexcusable as conference front-runner.
February 26th, 2014 at 7:50 PM ^
In the past this board would be filled with calls for GRIII to set-up, but now we've just given up on that. If Caris and Nik aren't going it done, then forget it.
February 26th, 2014 at 7:50 PM ^
Hopefully this turns out like Wisconsin/IU last night where we score 50+ second half points to their 20-something.
February 26th, 2014 at 7:51 PM ^
8 first half FG's. At least it's pretty much impossible to have a worse 2nd half.
February 26th, 2014 at 7:52 PM ^
Okay. Who's got the whiskey? We're either going to be happy drunks, or we're going to drown our sorrows. Not sure which yet.
February 26th, 2014 at 7:58 PM ^
February 26th, 2014 at 7:51 PM ^
We'll win this.

That awful pass on the 4 on 1 break was huge.
February 26th, 2014 at 8:00 PM ^
easy 4 pt swing there.
February 26th, 2014 at 7:52 PM ^
But when we constantly have these types of starts, that speaks to me as a coaching problem.
When you see something happen a couple of times, you can probably chalk that up to a player issue but when its the same thing, time and time again, like these horrible starts, i think its a coaching problem.
Go ahead, kill me away
February 26th, 2014 at 7:53 PM ^
Someone is complaining about Beilein. Unbelievable.
February 26th, 2014 at 7:56 PM ^
Someone has complained about literally everything else, it was only a matter of time.
February 26th, 2014 at 8:04 PM ^
He has done great things at UM, but you have to wonder about the consistent lack of rebounding and defense. Some of that is a clearly a lack of effort. Do you really believe this team doesn't have good enough athletes to better than horrible on the defensive end of the floor?
I mean, in past years we chalked it up to having less than optimal athletes, but now this team is better in that department and it is still a significant issue.
Obviously not worshipping everything Beilein related is clearly not accepted on this board. He is clearly the best coach this program has had in while, that still does not mean he is exempt from any criticism. It shouldn't fall 100% on the players.
February 26th, 2014 at 8:05 PM ^
People look at the opponents FG% and say "we're horrible on defense," but they ignore the fact that we never put anyone on the line and we stay out of foul trouble. It's a trade off.
And it's not an effort thing. We don't have great size, other than GR3 and GR3 is even playing out of position.
February 26th, 2014 at 8:12 PM ^
However, small ball is becoming more common in college basketball , which makes it less of a disadvantage than in the past.
Also size does not 100% explain giving up a large number of uncontested jump shots every game. People can argue it all the want, but that is a simply a lack of effort. They are also horrible in terms of fighting through screens.
February 26th, 2014 at 8:12 PM ^
missing an All American big man who could be getting rebounds and shutting down the middle.
February 26th, 2014 at 7:55 PM ^
We've had open looks. It's not like Coach B is out there shooting 8/27 from the field.
February 26th, 2014 at 8:05 PM ^
Consistently bad defense is becoming a trend.

half time magic again. They have to get their head in the game.

are reverting back to their early season freshmen ways. brutal the past few games. the improvement of those two are key to any kind of tourny run.
February 26th, 2014 at 7:54 PM ^
ANOTHER bad start, missed Fts, STUPID tunovers, missed EASY layups..Morgan with his usual fumblitits and missed fts...God this team is frustrating...when there bad there bad, Better get their act together and QUICK or they are going to blow all the seasons hard work and totally negate the MSU win if they lose here
February 26th, 2014 at 7:55 PM ^
I don't see how we're being ridiculous WolvinLA2...this is the third game in a row where the team has started out shitty and the 4th time in 5 games. It has to stop.
February 26th, 2014 at 7:58 PM ^
6th time in 7 games we've looked terrible in the first half.
The only game we've come out looking good at the beginning of the game in that 7 game stretch is our home game against Nebraska.
February 26th, 2014 at 7:58 PM ^
I'm not saying it's a good thing, but it doesn't necessitate constant complaining or blaming. We missed a bunch of shots, had some bad passes. Purdue has also been on fire. If a couple of theirs don't fall and a couple of our good shots do, this is a 4-5 point game.
February 26th, 2014 at 8:01 PM ^
I always love this.
"If we made our shots and they didn't, we'd be winning right now!"
Congratulations, you have a rudimentary understanding of the scoring system in basketball.
February 26th, 2014 at 8:05 PM ^
I should have been more specific, so people with only a rudimentary understanding of English could understand.
We shot well below our average and they shot well above their average. Some of that has to do with defense, but many of our misses (including our free throws) were open shots. Had that been nearer the mean, this would be a close game right now. We have actually taken more shots than they have in this game.
Sometimes your shots aren't falling, and sometimes their shots do. It doesn't have to turn into an OMG THIS TEAM FUCKING BLOWZ thread because of it.
February 26th, 2014 at 8:08 PM ^
Well they certainly blow in the first half of games for the last month. You can't deny that. There's a trend here.

The four factors -
Michigan eFG% - 33.33%
Michigan OREB% - 35.00%
Michigan FTR - 33.33%
Michigan turnover % - 13.90%
-----
Purdue eFG% - 62.00%
Purdue OREB% - 27.27%
Purdue FTR - 24.00%
Purdue turnover % - 17.84%
February 26th, 2014 at 7:59 PM ^
So we're beating them in 3 of the 4 factors and down by 13? Hmm.
February 26th, 2014 at 8:03 PM ^
My eyes. My beautiful eFG%. Look at those turnover%.
February 26th, 2014 at 7:57 PM ^
ugh...just finished the 1st half up on the DVR. The youth of this team can be so frustrating.
February 26th, 2014 at 7:57 PM ^
We had to expect this kind of game after that emotional win on Sunday.
February 26th, 2014 at 8:03 PM ^
I don't know if anyone could reasonably "expect" us to dig a 20-point ditch in 12 minutes. Lose a close game? Okay, I can see that, but not this monstrosity.
