We got the “Old Harbaugh” back last night
October 20th, 2019 at 8:22 AM ^
And the team played better, as a whole.
October 20th, 2019 at 8:44 AM ^
Everything, top to bottom, was better at the core of its substance. A couple costly lapses. Several more costly middle fingers from the officials. But the patient is alive, strengthening, and ready for the final triumphant scene at the end of the film.
We finally got up off the mat, and we are about to hurt some people.
October 20th, 2019 at 9:11 AM ^
My primary complaint with JH on that, is why do we have to lose 2 games we should have won before the fire is lit? I mean, it shouldnt take this to light the fire, it should be lit and burning from day 1. Maybe the pressure is really on for JH, and maybe, just maybe this little revelation will help him un-fuck himself and get back to what he should have been doing since his mini-apocolyps a year and a half ago... if he is taking meds, then shame on him, this is an intense profession, and if you need meds to calm down, then you need to pack it up and move on to become a meditation consultant or something...
October 20th, 2019 at 9:38 AM ^
Is Ohio State included in that "some people" we are going to hurt? Because that is literally the only thing that can make this season a success now. Forget about Indy.
October 20th, 2019 at 10:29 AM ^
Does it really matter if we have the "Old Harbaugh"or "New Harbaugh" if we have the same results!? The truth is we have "The Same Old Harbaugh".
We still got defeated by a ranked team on the road. We are still going to lose to ND and OSU. Why would any of this change when the guy in control is the same.
October 20th, 2019 at 4:52 PM ^
"loses to ranked teams on the road" is one of the worst criticisms I can think of. It's almost as bad as "record against top 10 opponents". News flash: most teams lose to ranked teams on the road. I'd love to see your stats on coaches' records in that situation and show that Harbaugh is underperforming. Of course you can't, it's just a knee-jerk buzzword.
P.S. if you're among those who only cares about the end result of any particular game, why do you watch? I watch because I enjoy it, and I can enjoy and appreciate a great performance by my team even if they lose. And I can appreciate when my team is getting better, versus when they seem to be getting worse. And I can give my guys credit when the were in a position to win, but missed out on catching some of the breaks. You could probably save yourself some time by just checking the box score after the game.
October 20th, 2019 at 5:33 PM ^
“Most teams lose to ranked opponents on the road”
we hired Harbaugh not to be “most teams”
You think this excuse would fly at Alabama or Ohio State?
October 20th, 2019 at 8:26 PM ^
Starko...you are like so many ignorant Michigan fans. Do you not know why Michigan hired Jim Harbaugh? Do you not know why he is paid what he is paid? He was hired, plain and simple, to compete for B10 championships. He was hired to beat OSU. He was hired to get us in the Playoffs. Period.
If all you want is to root for a team and not care about whether we win or lose, go to your local YMCA and pick some recreational soccer team to be a fan of.
October 20th, 2019 at 11:05 AM ^
Especially the 2nd half.
October 20th, 2019 at 8:24 AM ^
Getting over that mystical hump. The game was close but we had our opportunities to tie. Getting that extra is so challenging but I ain't mad. I can see the vision.
October 20th, 2019 at 10:25 AM ^
I'm sorry, I was as thrilled as anyone about JH coming here, it was at that time a miracle. However, we are in year 5 and now happy about moral victories?
It is too much to win a B1G title every year and make the CFP, but we keep stubbing our toe(s) constantly especially on the road. Something has to change, as we are not Illinois or Indiana where they would celebrate close losses.
During the early and middle part of Llyod's tenure, we routinely challenged and even won a few B1G titles and a National Championship, not seeing it yet and am very sad!
October 20th, 2019 at 10:32 AM ^
Catchafire, people were saying the same thing when we didn't get "the stop" against OSU. Saying the same thing with the punt of death against MSU.
October 20th, 2019 at 10:59 AM ^
A "vision" is usually a 5-year plan, we're in year 5.
October 20th, 2019 at 8:33 AM ^
Sure did get him back, they continued to lose a big game. Some would argue he never left
And when you use a TO before the game even starts it’s hard to think that screams “He’s back” or that he is “All there”
October 20th, 2019 at 8:36 AM ^
That was a good TO by Harbaugh. That almost delay of game was on Shea.
October 20th, 2019 at 10:32 AM ^
Who the hell is coaching Shea?
October 20th, 2019 at 11:13 AM ^
Apparently Gattis bc the amount of excuses Harbaugh and McDaniels get is comical.
October 20th, 2019 at 8:40 AM ^
October 20th, 2019 at 8:40 AM ^
Got the DP there. I only needed to say it once.
October 20th, 2019 at 8:41 AM ^
A TO because the program is unprepared. But yeah on Shea
Some of you are comical on this. Just can’t see the issues wiggling on your face
October 20th, 2019 at 8:47 AM ^
He wasn’t looking at the clock. You have eyes but cannot see.
October 20th, 2019 at 8:52 AM ^
Yeah can’t believe having to burn a TO before game even starts has nothing to do with getting down 21-0 immediately.
No way that’s part of the reason team got down 21-0 immediately. NOT READY TO PLAY a common theme under Jim in a big game
October 20th, 2019 at 8:41 AM ^
Man i cannot get over how different the offense looked last night. Seems like their finding their groove as they gained 400+ yards on a top 5 defense on the road. I hope jimmy and the coaches can get the kids to rally behind that performance. You’ll never beat the refs
October 20th, 2019 at 8:49 AM ^
An improvement, yes but we do t know how good PSU is. Buffalo? Pitt? We were #7 in the country this year. Saying PSU has. Top 5 defense ignores the fact they could be artificially inflated. Like our defense has been for the past few years. Kick ass on crappy teams, can't stop good ones. We really don't know anything other than they play harder as the game wore on.
October 20th, 2019 at 9:17 AM ^
You can play the "How do we know?" game with every team. It's been seven games. They're probably pretty good.
October 20th, 2019 at 9:22 AM ^
Agreed. I really don't think PSU is that good except for an ability to earn big plays. They also have some big seniors in key positions on defense. OK, PSU is pretty good but I find it hard to believe they are really a top 10 team.
October 20th, 2019 at 10:00 AM ^
Stats tend to balance out in the long run. IE: Look at Wisky at IL, they too gave up more points then all season. The big advantage Penn State had last night was they were up 21-0 then Michigan offense did hit it's stride.
At least the Michigan defense really did stiffen up in the second half and allowed only 7 pts. Too bad they gave up 21 in the fisrt half.
October 20th, 2019 at 11:55 AM ^
Even defenses like the Alabama's and Clemson's give up points to good offenses. Moot point. Adding that a #1 defense to the #10 defense isn't normally that big of a jump.
October 20th, 2019 at 10:27 AM ^
You really nailed it there with your comment about hoping we can get the team to rally behind that performance. I was just telling my buddy that the first half against ND might be the most important half of football we have this season. If they come out hungover from the close loss to PSU, pack the season in. If we come out fired up and ready to take on the world, it could be a fun last few weeks of the season.
October 20th, 2019 at 8:49 AM ^
The best part is , he knew it !
he knew they would play better.
his comments to start the second half were not wishful thinking , he was confident that whatever happened in the locker room was actually going to work and show up on the field.
that one detail is the most positive thing of the night. It gives me hope that our coach still recognizes how to motivate players
October 20th, 2019 at 9:01 AM ^
Is it just me. Why wouldn't we have just taken the 5 yard delay of game penalty instead of burning a TO. It would be just like a false start on the 1st play. Not calling a TO at the start of the game is less painful than not calling a TO when the clock is running out on a 3rd and 2.
October 20th, 2019 at 9:46 AM ^
Actually, I can understand why they'd take the TO. It's the opening drive of a nationally televised game on the road in front of the screaming white masses. Your QB has been shaky, and your offense has been inconsistent as hell. Ideally you want a TD to shut up the crowd. Realistically, you'd take a couple of first downs to let your QB & offense get the butterflies out of their system, then punt them deep and let your defense take over.
So with the clock running out, take the TO. Having to get 10 yards for a first down is easier than having to get 15.
October 20th, 2019 at 9:04 AM ^
It’s amazing how many people here are miserable. This board has turned to trash a bunch of people crying to cry. There’s not one play or player or coach you can squarely blame this on. The team lost collectively together.
October 20th, 2019 at 9:15 AM ^
Bunch of grown ass adults acting like children. This place has become more and more toxic, literally all anyone does anymore is complain. Hell, not even the Snowflake threads can contain all of the "super special snowflakes" who want to make sure everyone reads their shitty hOt TaEk opinions.
This will continue until roughly Friday of ND week, as is tradition. There will be a rallying cry of people getting behind the team, and then win or lose next Saturday the cycle will repeat itself, voracity dependent on game outcome lol.
October 20th, 2019 at 9:33 AM ^
Is it really amazing that fans of a team that haven't won an upset or a truly big game in a very long time are miserable about it?
October 20th, 2019 at 10:54 AM ^
I think you can definitely blame Brown for asking Hawkins and Metellus to cover Hamler. I just don’t see a team like OSU doing something like that.
October 20th, 2019 at 1:04 PM ^
I blame the coaches mostly.
-Trying to kick a 58 yard FG instead of going for it when you are more likely to get a first down and field position is a wash if you don't make either. A FG wouldn't have made that big of a difference even made down 14.
-Play calling when they had the momentum was terrible at times. I appreciated the passing game adjustments, but inside zone with no reads attached (or reads missed) was playing into the strength of the PSU defense, especially when being aggressive on early downs was successful.
-Don Brown countering masterpiece calls with absolute dipshit ones. There is absolutely no reason on a team with Lavert Hill, Ambry Thomas and Daxton Hill for Don Brown to scheme a defense that relies on a safety or Josh Uche to be in coverage on Hamler. Fucking inexcusable.
The team showed a tremendous amount of heart and the coaches messed up some of the little things that could have led to victory IMO. I'm not "crying," and actually I'm a little more optimistic for the rest of the year, but this staff still has core issues they haven't fixed.
October 20th, 2019 at 9:20 AM ^
Yeah, and whatever funk they were in since last year's PSU game seemed to subside a little after halftime... EXCEPT DROPPED PASSES AND GIVING UP LONG PLAYS.
October 20th, 2019 at 9:23 AM ^
Good game plan. That environment was worth a TD and it ended up that way. Oh well life goes on.
October 20th, 2019 at 9:42 AM ^
You know how you find that extra TD that the "environment" gave to Penn State? You go for it on 4th and actually try to pick up 3rd & longs. Harbaugh had those chances in the first half and he puckered.
October 20th, 2019 at 10:07 AM ^
We did go for it on a 4th down in the first half and DPJ got mugged.
October 20th, 2019 at 10:21 AM ^
The situations demanded we go for it 3 times on 4th in the first half. The first punt and then asking Moody to make a 58-yarder when it was 4th & manageable (and down 14) are both indefensible decisions.
October 20th, 2019 at 9:26 AM ^
Would be nice if JH got them fired up at the START of each game what would that look like?
October 20th, 2019 at 9:27 AM ^
I get it. We played better.
- we still didn’t win. That is the name of the game, right? Do you think Alabama, Clemson or LSU fans measure their team and coaches by any other standard? Those are the guys we should aspire to...and if not, why not?
- the constant “blame the refs” mantra is exhausting. Nobody is out to get us. Refs make good calls and bad calls. Never heard anyone complain when calls go our way.
- JH just isn’t it, guys. Listen to top notch coaches in their press conferences and listen to Jim. These other guys express with words what is going right and wrong with their teams. Jim is vague af about everything. Why does that matter? Isn’t it just a presser? If Jim can’t express his thoughts succinctly to the media, maybe he can’t do that with his team and his assistants?
i expect better. We all should.
October 20th, 2019 at 9:51 AM ^
the constant “blame the refs” mantra is exhausting. Nobody is out to get us. Refs make good calls and bad calls. Never heard anyone complain when calls go our way.
I didn't see any non calls vs Michigan and neither did the announcers. They actually started to bite their lip it was so bad (on the non call targeting vs Shea after he slid forward). That play by the way is one that they can buzz down afterward even if there wasn't a call, to see if it was targeting, and Harbaugh was yelling at them on the sideline to do so. You are welcome to throw out these unsupported statements, but you would have more credibility if you pointed out at least one missed call vs Michigan. Instead they called Black's push off but not the push off that gave PSU a TD, missed an obvious mugging on a 4th down pass in PSU territory that likely would have given Michigan new life and 7 points, and called an offensive PI against Michigan when it appeared there was equal contact by both players, (but only the Michigan guy was looking at the ball).
Ignoring the potential conflict of interest that these non-professional refs have due to the billions in sports betting is just putting your head in the sand.
October 20th, 2019 at 10:04 AM ^
Every fan base thinks that their team gets screwed by the refs.
not saying that there isn’t bias...but calls seem to go both ways.
October 20th, 2019 at 10:09 AM ^
I don't think there is a conspiracy, I just think that the home field influences officiating a lot.
Do you the game was evenly-officiated last night?
October 20th, 2019 at 10:42 AM ^
It was close enough to even.
it wasn't like the Lions/GB debacle. It wasn’t to the level of the aOSU GAME.
Michigan didn’t play well enough to win. Blaming the refs for the loss seems lazy.
October 20th, 2019 at 8:09 PM ^
With the M offense struggling, the refs spotting the other team a TD is enough to swing the game.
October 20th, 2019 at 10:47 AM ^
Spot on! Although I would say that Metellus or Hudson got away with a little PI. It wasn't egregious or anything, but enough of one that should have been called. That no call wouldn't have amounted to much, ball was overthrown by a good amount.
