[LOCKED] OT: Kaepernick/Reid settle with NFL

Submitted by donjohn64 on February 15th, 2019 at 4:17 PM

I'm guessing this is what the two 'Football' posts earlier today were intended to discuss....

Sorry it's WWL link. TL;DR version - Kaepernick and Reid settled with the NFL, neither is allowed to discuss the matter any further, so we don't know and probably won't find out what kind of settlement (MGoLawyers?).

Also, I'm guessing that this is going to get locked due to unreasonable discourse. C'est la vie.

[edit: mgowill] Well this turned out pretty terrible. I've noted some of the worst posts and will be banning accounts. Let's try not to do this again folks.

The smugness runs deep in you.

I'll bet your list of life accomplishments is short compared to the way you run your mouth.   Using vulgar insults about someone's children is especially nice.   I'm going after a prick who supports cop killers, youre going after toddlers.

If Kaepernick could win football games there would be owners that would pay him.  There are plenty of kneelers that still kneel and still play.

All things being equal they dont want the headache.  But winning in the NFL?  Fuck yes they would pay him.

Kaepernick won. Got paid a ton of money all the while not taking a beating playing football as the backup qb. He now is a legendary martyr and has a steady income for the rest of his life.

Look, I am not doubting his sincerity on this issue at all. He is a modern day Rosa Parks but in this age of social media he can really cash in.

The other issue that I don't think gets discussed is how the NFL runs roughshod over individuals who get in the way of their agenda (see Brady). I think there is a good chance the NFL was trying to stick it to Kaepernick by any means necessary. I am not actually supporting the fact that people want to take their social issues to the 'workplace'. It's not that Kaepernick has a belief but that I don't want to see everyone with a cause protesting when on the clock. Just protest before or after the game. Not on the field. Too much to ask?

I didn’t read any of the OP, but came here to simply ask: does anyone actually give a fuck about this loser anymore?

way too much publicity about this loser. there are many minority athletes spending millions and doing real good in communities with their work and money.

This must be the greatest virtue signaling thread of all time. Pat yourselves on the back ladies and gentleman!

I do know what that means, but thanks. Let me explain since this seemed to have gone over your head: the fact that you are engaging in the very dynamic you decry - just from the opposite side of the political aisle - is problematic.

No way bud - you have already demonstrated your intellectual superiority- I can hear your synapses firing from here!  If you are still unable to grasp why it doesnt mean what you think it means, there is no way a dullard like me can help you understand.  I'd stick with your guns on this one and continue to assume you do know what it means - you certainly cant backtrack at this juncture - this is the internet for Christ's sakes!

I loved the bit where racist Sobchak had to finally retreat to something like I had family killed on military duty (left out the "face down in the muck - missed opportunity) so I have a right to determine how the flag is treated.

Even when fleeing claims of privilege, he claims privilege.

Served 26 years in the USN (and had an uncle who died in Vietnam) and loved Kap's protest.  Good cause, good technique.  I don't always agree with his stances, but he had style.

I guess the theory is that disrespecting something that a lot of folks have great reverence and respect for is a great way to draw attention to a cause.  And its absolutely a legal form of protest and freedom of speech. Maybe next he could shit on the Koran, wear shoes with the flag printed on the soles, or??  What a groundbreaking groundbreaker. If more folks would disrespect the flag and national anthem, think of the equality it would create and how unracist and diverse our society would be.  We can pray that that day will come soon. Who wants to burn a flag with me to end racism?
