03/18/2019 - 5:11pm My UK friend said something…

My UK friend said something to me today and has before regarding young players and the current UK program. It's not surprising young people make mistakes and unless your talent is so much better than the competition to overcome the youth then you should expect mistakes as what happened in the UK vs. Tenn game.

Now, this is a great observation and definitely applies to UM. Follow me here. You can't rely on Simpson for end of the game offense for obvious reasons. Teske is not a consistent shooter so basically the upper class guys can't be the go to guy.

Matthews is the one guy you could rely on. Maybe Livers but he can't really create his own shot. So what happens, Beilein I guess has to go to Iggy (frosh) and Poole (basically a frosh) so this is why you get some less than desirable shots from these two young guys in crunch time.

MSU has upper class guys shooting and delivering in crunch time. UM has the wrong guys shooting at the end. I would go to Matthews in crunch time. I would also set plays for Simpson and Livers as a combo and not rely on Poole and Iggy.

03/17/2019 - 10:37pm Let me simplify this stuff…

Let me simplify this stuff. I don't mean to be disrespectful but I am going to make it easy for people to understand.

Ever hear of MJ? How about Kobe? Ever hear of Tom Brady? Joe Montana? What do these guys have in common besides being legends? They handle the ball at the end of games and they are legendary clutch players.

It's why their teams essentially won against their competition the majority of times. Every great team has a guy like this to close it out. Very good teams usually don't have this guy but it doesn't make them a bad team, it's just makes them a very good team.

End of story.

03/17/2019 - 5:45pm Agree. Do you know why MSU…

Agree. Do you know why MSU is the better team? It's clear as day. They have an offensive go to player at the end of the game. UM doesn't. It's by committee. Put Derrick Walton on this team then UM wins this game.

UM just doesn't have the one closer at the end.

03/16/2019 - 1:46am Looking for a Eli Brooks…

Looking for a Eli Brooks appreciation thread.

03/10/2019 - 11:30pm He is a decent role player…

He is a decent role player at best? Wow.

03/04/2019 - 2:57pm Very impressive. That will…

Very impressive. That will get him drafted at that position. Looks like he is going to go 3-6th round.

03/04/2019 - 2:56pm I think Gentry may have to…

I think Gentry may have to switch positions. Lose weight and just be big wr guy for fades because clearly he isn't very strong and doesn't like to block and isn't going to sell anyone on the fact that he is Kellen Winslow.

He needs to somehow to get matched up on corners who aren't as physical or as big so he can push them around a little. Get with a qb who is good at throwing high balls like a Russell Wilson.

03/04/2019 - 2:33pm So unlike most of you I don…

So unlike most of you I don't hate or despise Delaney. That being said, I was not a big fan of the expansion. Maryland is a solid addition but again they are in the East. Delaney has his grandiose view of some national footprint for the Big Ten.

So here is my question. Has this expansion really worked out either financially or from a prestige standpoint? Does this inevitably get viewed in a positive way if RU somehow becomes more formidable?

If you are supporting this expansion, sell me on this. Give me the spin that the media would say to eulogize Delaney. I want to hear it.

02/25/2019 - 11:59am Here is the next obvious…

Here is the next obvious question. If you can't use Hitler as a joke/insult, can you use Hitler references to political opponents you don't like. I remember as a kid seeing posters of Reagan with a mustache. Vague recollection.

Be careful with the PC sensitivity movement. Is this sort of like the N word thing where white people can't use the N word and non Jewish people can't use the H word? Maybe not because a woman recently called another woman the C word and got in trouble. That's right, Samantha Bee.

Now, I am curious about one other thing. If I write the N word, is that somehow better than typing out the entire word? What happens if the word is actually expressed in my mind? Is this like a human violation? What happens if I am watching Pulp Fiction or Jackie Brown and I actually listen to the entire word or see it pop up on the television?

Is there a progressive book I can reference going forward that encompasses both words, phrases and appropriate greetings toward individuals? How about Hello my friend? Is that presumptuous? Maybe, good morning my fellow contemporary?

02/25/2019 - 11:23am I told my friend back in the…

I told my friend back in the day (30 years or so ago) that there wasn't anything funny about the Holocaust. He responded by saying, Do you know why Hitler lost the war? I said No. He said, he couldn't afford his gas bill.

I said, you're right. I stand corrected. That is funny. Would you he be fired now for saying that? Would it be okay if he said that at a comedy club? I am assuming the German guy will be o.k. and not have to go to therapy right?

Update: The guy who told me the joke was Jewish. Sorry to leave that tidbit out.

Which was better. Fire Beilein or fire Barnes Arico posts?

02/21/2019 - 9:18pm Teske has to take those 3…

Teske has to take those 3 pointers. If he makes them...great. If he misses, you got to live with it. He has to be a threat outside because Z/X is on the floor.

There is no other option but for him to shoot it. I was proud of him for not being deterred. This is a big positive that he understands he has to shoot for this offense to run. Coach knows it. I know it. Players know it. Opponents know it.

Everyone talks about developing the bench but just as important is developing Teske from the 3 point line. If he goes 0-10 then so be it.

02/16/2019 - 2:13am I get your point. It was…

I get your point. It was brilliant so you acknowledge that everyone with a cause can kneel during the anthem or at a work meeting or anywhere. Domestic violence, child support, anti assault, deficit reduction, environmental causes, abortion, gay rights, etc.

See the bigger issue with some of the public is that why does Kaepernick or any professional athlete get to bring their causes to work? Would the media give attention to athletes who advocate conservative causes like immigration reform? I doubt it. I think you doubt it.

This was purely mass entertainment exploited by the media for profit.

02/16/2019 - 2:08am Kaepernick won. Got paid a…

Kaepernick won. Got paid a ton of money all the while not taking a beating playing football as the backup qb. He now is a legendary martyr and has a steady income for the rest of his life.

Look, I am not doubting his sincerity on this issue at all. He is a modern day Rosa Parks but in this age of social media he can really cash in.

The other issue that I don't think gets discussed is how the NFL runs roughshod over individuals who get in the way of their agenda (see Brady). I think there is a good chance the NFL was trying to stick it to Kaepernick by any means necessary. I am not actually supporting the fact that people want to take their social issues to the 'workplace'. It's not that Kaepernick has a belief but that I don't want to see everyone with a cause protesting when on the clock. Just protest before or after the game. Not on the field. Too much to ask?

Why? So anyone employed who is involved in an assault then loses their career, in any profession? An assault where the police didn't arrest and the DA didn't charge?

Where is this line? Is it for DUI's? Drug possession? Insensitive tweets or internet posts?

02/11/2019 - 6:58pm I agree with you although…

I agree with you although can you edit and use the N word. I understand the point you are making by actually typing the word. As a white person I find the whole N word be uttered verbally or in writing as inciteful.

I actually wish that people of color would stop using that word. I also understand the point which is to embrace some derogatory term and use it on your own terms. That being said, I hate that word. Makes my skin crawl.

For the record, I wouldn't outlaw it. Just don't promote it. Isn't there a derogatory word for Jews? I don't like that word. I don't like the N, K or W or B words off the top of my head. :)

02/11/2019 - 2:45pm Could see this coming. Hunt…

Could see this coming. Hunt is way too good of a player not to have on the roster. Great fit for Mayfield and system.

Hate to break it to some people but this wasn't domestic violence. This was a scuffle. Not saying penalties weren't warranted, i.e, suspension.

He lied. Wow. That must be the first time a human being has lied to protect their financial and career interests.

02/09/2019 - 2:01pm From the eye test it sure…

From the eye test it sure looks like Teske is the best player on the UM team. Not by a huge margin but just overall is the most indispensable part of the team.

02/07/2019 - 12:11pm I watched the video a few…

I watched the video a few times. Of course he was trying to trip the opponent or play dirty and I like to give people the benefit of the doubt. Come on. Dirty play. That was Draymond Green level if not worse.

Big Ten should suspend for a game. Nip this in the bud.

02/02/2019 - 2:38am I think people need to give…

I think people need to give Iowa some credit. They are a tough matchup for UM. They are lengthy and shut UM down offensively. Beat UM at their own game taking it to the hoop.

Good team.

02/01/2019 - 10:21pm I watched a couple of…

I watched a couple of minutes and had to leave. What I initially noticed after just a few minutes is that Iowa had some pretty decent size and contested those perimeter shots.

Just an initial observation and average shooters can turn to below average under defensive pressure.

01/29/2019 - 10:21pm That wasn't a flop. Come on…

That wasn't a flop. Come on Dakich. Just admit you made a bad initial assessment.

01/29/2019 - 7:05pm So why do people live in the…

So why do people live in the Midwest? I live in CA. I know the obvious answer. The fall is beautiful. It is. It has the midwestern charm. The lakes.

All that being said, why do people live in the Midwest? Couldn't employers relocate the facilities? I'd rather deal with those earthquakes than shoveling snow and freezing my _____ off.

Ok. Time to attack me before the game.

That is how I see Higdon. He is a 3rd down James White type in the right system.

Don't see it. The most obvious reason is that is reeks of nepotism.

01/17/2019 - 9:36pm It sounds to me like you…

It sounds to me like you have a stellar record of going the extra mile in pursuit of justice and the protection of our society. Could you give me some of personal sacrifices in this regard? I know you wouldn't just tell everything else how to act and behave but would be able to point to personal experience.

Thank You.

01/17/2019 - 3:03pm I wasn't around during the…

I wasn't around during the Salem witch trials but the internet era has some sort of McCarthy era guilt by association. It's really Anti American.

Victims are rightfully angry so they want to burn everybody down and understand the power of the new media so they just scream and yell and people tend to buckle under social pressure. Let's be honest here. Most people are fearful and sensitive to criticism. You see it all the time.

This story reminds me of a recent story about Chipotle. If I recall correctly, a number of individuals (5 or so) come into a Chipotle and an Asian employee tells the individuals of color (I believe) to leave. Chipotle fires her but it turns out that the employee had encountered these individuals before who ordered but didn't pay.

Chipotle is made aware of this new information and says that they will possibly review any new information that comes to light. See the parallels? Corporation sees it in their self interests just to do the politically expedient thing to get rid of the publicity regardless of the facts.

Yes, the new America where politics trumps individual rights.

01/14/2019 - 7:35pm Let's leave off the starter…

Let's leave off the starter label then. So basically these guys are equal in contributions but not on the blogs where the loss of Solomon is bemoaned much louder.

01/14/2019 - 6:36pm Have you ever noticed how …

Have you ever noticed how 'fans' get all worked up about a highly rated recruit that leaves like Solomon but a low rated recruit who actually played more for UM doesn't get nearly the attention for leaving.

Potential vs. production. Ironic.

01/14/2019 - 3:19pm Well said.

Well said.

01/12/2019 - 4:27pm Great decision by Mr. Manuel…

Great decision by Mr. Manuel. It's important not to give into the mob mentality among some segments of society.

It's amazing how many enlightened people want to fire others when they have given no example of themselves doing the right thing when it conflicted with their self interests.

01/07/2019 - 12:15pm I love that Bama and Clemson…

I love that Bama and Clemson are meeting again because they are both well coached and have the best talent. These guys have earned it.

Would somebody in the south complain about seeing UM vs. OSU every year even though the outcome is pretty much determined?

01/07/2019 - 12:29am Kid is very impressive. I…

Kid is very impressive. I wouldn't mess with his shot. It works for him plus he isn't a shooting guard. Amazing how much the level of athleticism of this program has improved over the last couple of years.

These guys would have never come to UM 10 years ago but now are flocking here. Assistants? Success of the program over a sustained period of time? Good reputation? Whatever the reason, great to see.

01/06/2019 - 1:38pm I stand by that quote…

I stand by that quote. Harbaugh thinks he is a great coach as does Brown. Neither of them are great coaches.

Who would you say is a great college coach? Saban? You think either one of these two above mentioned coaches are great? In that category?

RR thought he was a great coach and it turned out he wasn't.

01/06/2019 - 1:33pm I have decided to lose some…

I have decided to lose some weight. This actually hasn't happened but I have put it on the record.

01/06/2019 - 11:27am I don't believe it. Look, I…

I don't believe it. Look, I think Valenti said it best.

Harbaugh thinks he is a great playcaller. He isn't.

Brown thinks he is a great DC. He isn't.

These guys are no different than RR, who back in the day, thought he was a great coach. Hoke, when he first got the UM job, thought he was a big time coach.

It's understandable. This is how the human ego works. They were successful and why should they change? Do you really think Harbaugh is going to give up control on the playcalling or Brown is going to somehow start playing a bend but don't break defense?

12/29/2018 - 1:38am How does this happen? It…

How does this happen? It happens because there are suckers out there who believe that recruiting services are infallible. Sort of like people who don't believe Tom Brady can't be great because he was a 6th round draft pick.

That's how.

12/25/2018 - 9:52pm Pitino got railroaded. He…

Pitino got railroaded. He didn't need to engage in any unethical activities. It's all about resentment for his success.

12/21/2018 - 8:31pm So why the dismay for…

So why the dismay for Solomon going to Tennessee. Was he some first team all American this year?

Did UM even miss Gary this year while off the field? Curious.

12/20/2018 - 3:05pm I just had a conversation…

I just had a conversation with a friend of mine. It's a rough template but here is what I think should happen.

Universities should just have an affiliated intramural team for the basketball, football, baseball, hockey. These guys can get paid and maybe work a few hours a day and study whatever they want (engineering or music). You get to choose to do whatever you want and also work on your skills. Practice with the team and work on your game beyond that. You choose.

You can get money from alumni, sponsorships, deals, etc. Let guys go pro at anytime once they turn 18 years old. Get rid of the entire NCAA model for these sports and keep them for all the other sports.

The reason behind this logic is that the university will just still have an associated team to play for their school. These kids just specialize in the sport they have chosen and play for 'x' school.

They can leave at anytime.

12/20/2018 - 2:17pm I see more of the spend…

I see more of the spend others people's money mindset going on in the article. I personally would like to see the employees of this site get a profit sharing plan along with health benefits since they are affiliated with the capitalistic enterprise known as college football.

I feel better now doing the right thing without having to pay for it. Maybe we could help out these players by assessing a charge on every member of this board?

12/16/2018 - 11:19am Should they redistribute…

Should they redistribute usage between Poole and Matthews? No. Here is why.

Poole is scoring more because he isn't the guy who has the pressure to score. Matthews does. Poole is coming on which is great to see but not having the pressure to score at a higher level is best for Poole this year.

Matthews is so underappreciated for what he has done for this program.

12/14/2018 - 2:34am I will say this about the…

I will say this about the new zero tolerance is that football players or athletes in general are going to be deterred from engaging in any violence otherwise their careers are going to end. This is the crux of the movement right which is to eliminate domestic violence.

Programs are going to lean toward dismissal just to keep the media off their back even before these issues are adjudicated.

12/12/2018 - 5:22pm Can someone post picture of…

Can someone post picture of horse being beaten to death?

Can we just all agree from here on out that X/Z will not shoot well from the 3 pt land and if he does it's just a bonus. How about as long as he shoots at a 10% clip over a 10 shot period then we are all happy?

12/09/2018 - 8:54pm I thought the same thing but…

I thought the same thing but I don't have a big problem with the mindset. All the Dolphins would need would be a fg so a Hail Mary could have worked too from the Endzone.

At the end of the day, running the clock down and kicking the fg was reasonable but was not smart was Miami was 70 yards away so they couldn't throw it 70 yards so having Gronk playing safety was stupid.

They should have rushed about 3 guys, contain and max protect. I saw Jones? on one play look like he was tired. Combination of coaching and heat for the loss.

12/08/2018 - 2:06am What. Who has turned on…

What. Who has turned on Zavier? Definitely not me. He has some liabilities but clearly our starting PG by a mile. I sure don't want Brooks handling the ball consistently and love him off the bench.
