15% of Clemson's Football Team Tests Positive for PED's

Mates,

Came across this headline this afternoon, sure to warm you up even more than great slow cooker recipes.  I have ad blocker so reading the entire article is tough, but the gist of the article is as the headline states, 15% of the team tested positive for PED's.

Link to article here: https://www.postandcourier.com/columnists/clemson-s-drug-probe-doesn-t-include-testing-all-football/article_6615cdf8-219d-11e9-9663-cfd49594d1b2.html

No wonder Clemson is doing so well?  #PED's are worth it?

Sad if true, but I guess its not surprising.

Right?  If it’s 15 percent on the randomly selected players the real number must be higher I’d be interested in seeing the percentage of those who were actually tested which came up positive.  That percentage is probably more in line with how many Playeds are onnit in the program.

OP misstates the article.  15% of the sample who were tested, tested positive for PEDs.  No plan to test the entire roster.  Dallas Walmart beat me to it.

I'd be absolutely shocked if the percentage of D1 football players who use steroids (at least occasionally) wasn't far north of 15%. More than 15% of my high school buddies used steroids.

This. People on this board don't realize that many of these elite football players are exposed to PEDs in high school. Michigan absolutely has guys that are currently on PEDs or have taken them.

It's just the nature of top level athletics. There's doing everywhere

Oh yeah, there are a lot of "aesthetic" lifestyle gym bros on gear. Pretty much every single youtuber who makes money off their body is on gear.

But there's doping at all levels of competition too. Inhalers are another thing that is abused, even by children being forced to puff by their parents

15% may have tested positive, but there could have been more that have taken a cycle.

PEDs are used all throughout college athletics, and it's extremely easy to beat the tests. SARMs are incredibly easy to get your hands on, and it's impossible to test for HGH in the NCAA.

As long as there is an incentive to take PEDs, people will take PEDs.

I really don’t care about this as much as I care about the sanctimonious bullshit from coaches like Dabo. Maybe it’s the same as it’s always been, but the older I get the more disheartening it gets. Maybe that’s why appeals to the past resonate so well. It’s not the past is any better, it’s just I was less jaded by reality.

Yes. Even if it isn't systematic, it still happens everywhere. I was a D1 athlete and I could have easily done a cycle every offseason, and I never would have gotten caught. And none of my coaches or teammates would have known (unless I made stupid gains).

People seem to be separating PEDs and coaching ability.

Clemson probably has a lot of guys on PEDs, and Clemson also has really good coaching. These two things are not mutually exclusive

Ok, so this thread should be taken down because that article is very misleading and simply clickbait. 15% of their football players DID NOT test positive. In reality, only 20 players were tested and 3 of those 20 tested positive which is 15%.

Of course, more players could be doping, but no one else has tested positive. The only story in the article is that Clemson is not changing their drug testing policy.

This article doesn't break any news and the OP's title is just as misleading as the article itself.

Do better.

My assertion is that this article is misleading and the OP's title is misleading. The statement, "More than 15% of Clemson's football tested positive for PEDs" is FALSE. It's 15% of those who were tested. 3 players tested positive, more than 15% of the team would be more than 13 players testing positive.

People need to actually read articles rather than just believe false and clickbaity titles.

The risk/reward ratio skews far to the reward.  It is not surprising that a bunch of kids who come from nothing see that if they take a little pill, they greatly increase the chances of cashing in and signing an NFL contract, of course there is going to be cheating.

If that’s your observation are you aware that looks can be deceiving?  It ain’t good having a larger tire when it goes flat all the time.  No thank you to roids.  I’ll just take vitamins and live longer.  Plus I’ll get less flat tires before 30.  Someone should’ve told Pep about the Clemson route tree-plus roids.  What a winning combination.

This is the loophole all teams have agreed to (random testing). That a first-round prospect got suspended suggests there is a deterrent value still. That Clemson won a title in any event suggests that getting caught is just the cost of doing business (this is the model for crime in corporate America, which college football has become).

Not surprising, but not because “oh it’s the south and they are all about winning.” I just think this happens most everywhere. I wouldn’t be shocked if there are guys playing for Michigan who are currently juicing. They just haven’t been caught yet.

Some guys also think they have no choice if they want to find a way to get on the field. They get to the next level (college, NFL) and find out they aren’t one of the 11 best players. They worked their whole life in the game and don’t see any other future for themselves except in football. So it’s either stay clean and probably kiss your dream career goodbye, or juice and take your chances with getting caught.

So I completely understand why some guys do it. They are left with thinking they don’t have any other choice if they want to live their dream. Doesn’t make it right. I’m just saying I get it.

Yeah, I was concerned when I saw his gains. He was the main one that stuck out to me, given his age, his gains, and the fact that he was a marginal pro prospect

He was looking like Laron Landry after the new S&C coach came in. It was pretty alarming to me, but garnered a "wow look at our players gaining 20 pounds after already been with the team for years with excellent nutrition and S&C beforehand - so cool!".

12 pounds in a year?  It’s 1 pound a month.  Male bodies routinely grow and fill out until the mid 20’s.

edit: sorry if that’s a tad snarky, I just think randomly attaching a kids name to PED use without any shred of evidence is a tad careless.  For all we know he came back for his SR season and got very serious about the next step and put in the work,  toncrap on him for that level of dedication is BS.
