Karan Higdon at Senior Bowl practice buzz
I've heard some great things about Karan Higdon this week and how he impressed people who were at the Senior Bowl practices. He showed that he can catch, block and run routes which is something that he wasn't asked to do much at Michigan. Stock is on the upswing for Higdon. He's still a day 3 pick but could sneak into tailend of day 3 due to production, violent running style and big play potential.
Quote from Jeff Risdon who was there had something good to say about Higdon:
"What stood out about the 5-9, 203-pound Wolverine was his work in the passing game in Mobile. That was not something he got much of a chance to show during his time at Michigan, but Higdon looked great catching the ball, protecting the QB and blowing past coverage on wheel routes"

Now I'll cry a little and then move on.

Yeah, so we misused Evans and Higdon.
January 26th, 2019 at 4:56 PM ^
And Black (when healthy), and Collins, and DPJ, and Perry.
January 26th, 2019 at 5:11 PM ^
Pretty amazing that we won ten games despite misusing all our players
January 26th, 2019 at 7:32 PM ^
....and we got crushed when we played 2 good teams.
January 26th, 2019 at 9:12 PM ^
Florida was a good team?
January 27th, 2019 at 9:54 AM ^
No, but Michigan being unprepared and unmotivated made them look REALLY good

Evans was injured much of the year and Higdon had a thousand yard season and will likely be drafted.
The narrative that Michigan didn't use the players well needs to die.
January 26th, 2019 at 10:50 PM ^
I’m sure Harbaugh and co would have loved to use him in the passing game or Evans for that matter, the problem was the suspect o line that needed him to stay in and block.
January 26th, 2019 at 2:46 PM ^
I think I'll sit this thread out.
January 26th, 2019 at 5:02 PM ^
.....but you didn't???
January 26th, 2019 at 2:46 PM ^
I'm gonna sit out watching any of these all-star games or NFL combine things.
January 26th, 2019 at 3:33 PM ^
I'm going to sit out making any sitting out puns
January 26th, 2019 at 3:41 PM ^
It’s 4th down. I think I’ll pun.
January 26th, 2019 at 11:00 PM ^
Kirk Ferentz, is that you?
January 26th, 2019 at 2:49 PM ^
Scouts were impressed with his physique, as well.
From an interview with Chris Burke at the Athletic, after Higdon weighed in at 5-9, 203 pounds:
> Burke: "I don’t know if you caught people by surprise or what, but there was a definite reaction when you came out [on the weight-in stage]. Did you notice it?"
> Higdon: "Yeah, there were gasps when I walked out. You just hear all the pens and papers … it was just like awe. You could hear a pin drop."
January 26th, 2019 at 2:54 PM ^
gasp back here in Ann Arbor too when you sat out the bowl game
January 26th, 2019 at 3:11 PM ^
This is played out..Would it have made the difference? i doubt it, we lost, move on
January 26th, 2019 at 3:54 PM ^
the sound I made wasn't a gasp. . .
January 26th, 2019 at 5:05 PM ^
You Tomsula'ed, amirite???
January 26th, 2019 at 3:33 PM ^
"after Higdon weighed in at 5-9, 203 pounds"
This is why I automatically subtract at least one inch from the UM-listed heights—MGoBlue has Higdon at 5'10".
January 26th, 2019 at 3:40 PM ^
They probably measure in shoes.
January 26th, 2019 at 7:41 PM ^
Pimp of the year.
January 26th, 2019 at 9:39 PM ^
Do those come in cleats?
January 26th, 2019 at 6:11 PM ^
When they measured Jabrill Peppers evidently he was wearing four inch heels.
January 26th, 2019 at 11:13 PM ^
Yes and I remember him being listed over 220lbs as well. What gives?
January 26th, 2019 at 3:59 PM ^
I get gasps when I walk into a room barely clothed as well.
January 26th, 2019 at 4:32 PM ^
This is ridiculous. He's a perfectly normal sized running back, probably a bit undersized. There's no way people were in awe when he walked out.
January 26th, 2019 at 6:43 PM ^
He is pretty shredded.
January 26th, 2019 at 7:00 PM ^
Sure, if you look at height and what the weight scale says, he’s pretty normal. However if you actually LOOK at him, he’s pretty jacked.
January 26th, 2019 at 8:37 PM ^
I'm 5'9" 203 (ish). I'm not jacked/shredded.
January 27th, 2019 at 12:04 AM ^
As opposed to the typical, flabby NFL running back.
January 27th, 2019 at 10:01 AM ^
Again, actually LOOK at Higdon. Compare him to some other backs. He just LOOKS absolutely jacked. Which would be why he received some gasps.
January 26th, 2019 at 2:56 PM ^
Great news. All the best to Higdon and his family. Time to shine
January 26th, 2019 at 2:59 PM ^
That is how I see Higdon. He is a 3rd down James White type in the right system.
January 26th, 2019 at 3:01 PM ^
Really hope he finds a place in the NFL. He may be a little short as a RB (in terms of taking on blockers). But he can be explosive as a downhill and a left to right runner.
I really hope Gattis starts throwing to RBs more. That would be a perfect quick passing option that can get yards in chunks
January 26th, 2019 at 3:29 PM ^
More? I honestly don’t remember Harbaugh calling any RB pass plays. I’m sure he did but it couldn’t have been that many.
January 26th, 2019 at 3:40 PM ^
Chris Evans had the 5th most pass catches last year (more than McKeon for reference). Including fullbacks Michigan backs caught 37 passes out of a total of 223 total completions.
So about 16.5% of our passes went to running backs/fullbacks
January 26th, 2019 at 5:16 PM ^
But what if McKeon had caught all the balls thrown to him...what then???
January 26th, 2019 at 3:14 PM ^
Wish the man nothing but the best. Despite sitting out the last bowl game, Karan performed well during his tenure here at UM. Tough runner, decent speed.
January 26th, 2019 at 3:22 PM ^
And this is why hes playing at Senior Bowl and didnt play Peach Bowl. He's showing stuff there that Michigan didn't ask him to do during his career at Michigan
January 26th, 2019 at 3:41 PM ^
And he gave himself an extra month to work on developing these skills to showcase.
January 26th, 2019 at 9:45 PM ^
Michigan was saving that stuff for the Peach Bowl.
January 26th, 2019 at 9:45 PM ^
Michigan was saving that stuff for the Peach Bowl.
January 26th, 2019 at 3:24 PM ^
He can play in an exhibition game but not an actual game.
January 26th, 2019 at 3:31 PM ^
Non-playoff bowl games are exhibitions too, my friend
January 26th, 2019 at 7:10 PM ^
Exhibitions don’t count on your record. Bowl games do. I want Michigan to hit 1000 victories while I am still alive. Every game counts.
January 27th, 2019 at 5:03 AM ^
But the thing is; no one cares what you want. Except you I guess.
