LA Times - Urban's Legacy "Doesn't Smell Good"
Mates,
Though you might be interested in this article from the LA Times, sent to me by a PSU alum who lives out there. It has more than one classic quote about Meyer's past teams, included here:
In his six years at Florida, he oversaw several sketchy teams whose players were arrested for all sorts of alleged crimes, including domestic abuse. In dealing with numerous off-the-field issues there, while protecting players instead of holding them accountable, Meyer twisted the truth so much that he became known as Urban Liar
And about the ohio state investigation, this gem:
Throughout the university’s investigative process, which focused on Meyer’s refusal to fire Smith even though he knew of the allegations, Meyers lied and whined and essentially played the part of the victim instead of owning up to his mishandling of the situation.
Nice to see we aren't the only ones who see Meyer for what he is: a pretty good football coach, but not so much when it comes to character. Our maize and blue vision is confirmed.

i would add that while we might be disappointed with JH's record to date, we will never have to deal with this type of failure of ethics. that has real value in a world that is increasingly 'ethics challenged'.
go blue!

Urban is scum, no doubt, but we had Durkin on staff. It's good to be internally critical as well.
January 2nd, 2019 at 1:02 PM ^
false equivalence
January 2nd, 2019 at 1:26 PM ^
The fact that you keep harping on this is proof of how irrational you are as a human being in general and totally negates every opinion you have.
January 2nd, 2019 at 1:31 PM ^
Don't think we should backdate someone's sins to us. As far as I know Durkin wasn't mistreating players the way he was in Maryland.
January 2nd, 2019 at 1:39 PM ^
most likely because the boss wouldn't tolerate it. . .
January 2nd, 2019 at 2:45 PM ^
LOL. You are so clueless, JPC.
January 2nd, 2019 at 4:08 PM ^
It's Maizen. He's a concern troll, it's what he does.
January 2nd, 2019 at 6:40 PM ^
Yep...another of Maizen's long and not so illustrious accounts. Guy is a certified loser.
We get it Maizen, you dont like Harbaugh and you pleasure yourself while reading scouting reports on those 5 stars.
January 2nd, 2019 at 4:23 PM ^
He was an assistant coach for one season...seriously?
January 2nd, 2019 at 7:14 PM ^
Remember that Durkin is a Meyer guy...
January 4th, 2019 at 12:40 AM ^
Dude, WTF? What did Durkin do wrong while at UM?
January 2nd, 2019 at 12:43 PM ^
I'm still hoping that we can have both, an ethically run AND winning program that competes at the very highest levels.
January 2nd, 2019 at 12:45 PM ^
At this point, hope in one hand and shit in the other and see which fills up faster.
January 2nd, 2019 at 2:49 PM ^
What's your opinion of Harbaugh's DUI?
January 2nd, 2019 at 3:04 PM ^
dear mods,
this guy has been begging for this for months.
January 2nd, 2019 at 3:47 PM ^
I find even his screen name to be offensive. And it tells us that he's not here for camaraderie and sports discussion.
January 2nd, 2019 at 7:52 PM ^
Where’s Sheriff Will? No one month time outs for this guy!
January 3rd, 2019 at 12:05 AM ^
Especially his screen name. It shouldn't be allowed.
January 2nd, 2019 at 3:30 PM ^
Jim Harbaugh stepped up and handled it appropriately. It must really burn you that your coach has a cystemic problem owning up to his affairs with his recurring baggages.
January 2nd, 2019 at 4:30 PM ^
Not sure if “cystemic” intended to be a pun, but if it is...+1 to you.
January 2nd, 2019 at 6:43 PM ^
What is your opinion of marrying your first cousin? I know that is quite common in parts of Ohio.
As the band strikes up Dueling Banjos from Deleverance....
January 2nd, 2019 at 8:01 PM ^
Hey would you blow me?
January 2nd, 2019 at 3:54 PM ^
Actually I'm not disappointed with JH's overall record-- just his OSU and bowl record. There have been improvements in all other areas from recruiting to morale to on field performance.
January 2nd, 2019 at 12:41 PM ^
Obligatory...water is wet and the earth is spherical....for most people.
January 2nd, 2019 at 12:42 PM ^
You mean that smell isn't yesterday's roses?
January 2nd, 2019 at 12:45 PM ^
Nice to see we aren't the only ones who see Meyer for what he is: a pretty good football coach, but not so much when it comes to character. Our maize and blue vision is confirmed.
I would say he's more than a "pretty good football coach"
January 2nd, 2019 at 5:24 PM ^
Meh...
Based on the talent he had at OSU, he underachieved. They had Bama level talent and won 1 national title. Missed the playoffs in 2016 with an all time loaded team, were blown out in 2017 by Clemson, and missed it last year and this year.
Based on what he recruited and his 100000-4 record in the B1G, should have done more in the post season. At Utah and UF he was lights out - until of course Saban showed up and owned him and the rest of the SEC.
Getting blown out by Iowa and Purdue were pretty brutal losses that cost them dearly, despite having one of the 2 or 3 most talented team in the country both years.
January 2nd, 2019 at 8:09 PM ^
Exactly! I didn't see Clemson or Alabama stumble against inferior teams. Urban is a leach to society.
January 2nd, 2019 at 12:46 PM ^
As assistant AD expect plenty of shady things to still go on behind the scenes . Now Urban will be able to use his new power to get ahead of it and quash it.
January 2nd, 2019 at 1:58 PM ^
I was just talking about this the other day. He is now the Michael Cohen of the OSU athletic department.
January 2nd, 2019 at 12:48 PM ^
Tampa Bay reportedly interested in purple face. Watch Urbs leave osu and head to ND. Would fit his pattern.
January 2nd, 2019 at 1:26 PM ^
I really don’t think ND would hire him with his track record. The school (rightfully) cares too much about its image, which would take a huge hit.
January 2nd, 2019 at 1:41 PM ^
Brian Kelly got a kid killed. Don't think they care as much as you think they care.
January 2nd, 2019 at 1:42 PM ^
And yet they employ a coach whose program has caused the death of students at multiple stops.
January 2nd, 2019 at 1:43 PM ^
No way Notre Dame hires him.
January 2nd, 2019 at 2:46 PM ^
I still don't understand this whole "Urbs" or "Urbz" thing. Why do UM fans have cute nicknames for that piece of lying shit?
January 2nd, 2019 at 2:58 PM ^
100% agree with you, UM Fan. It'd be swell if it was a demeaning/derogatory term, but it sounds more like an endearing pet name.
January 2nd, 2019 at 3:35 PM ^
That is exactly how I feel - term of endearment.
January 2nd, 2019 at 6:46 PM ^
I never call him Xrbs or Xrban. All the people in my CFB circles know who I'm referring to when I say, "Oscar".
January 2nd, 2019 at 5:39 PM ^
Agree. And I also hate the tOSU shit. Why give them that credit?
January 2nd, 2019 at 12:48 PM ^
His “tainted legacy” will never be as bad as Paterno or Briles. He won way too much. I know lots of people on this board would take the level of success OSU had even if it came with some of the scandal that Urban created.
January 2nd, 2019 at 2:31 PM ^
Do not want. It is better to be able to sleep at night. Who want to win with constant worry about the validity of any championship? Sounds very hollow to me.
January 2nd, 2019 at 5:36 PM ^
Jerry Sandusky’s dismantling of Miami in 1986 was one of the best defensive outings ever.
Michael Jackson’s music is awesome.
Kevin Spacey was great in the 90’s.
January 2nd, 2019 at 3:21 PM ^
Nope. I want success the John Beilein way.
January 2nd, 2019 at 12:51 PM ^
He'll be coaching sooner rather than later because he wins.
January 2nd, 2019 at 1:45 PM ^
But, but...Shelley is happy he’s retiring. They say “Happy wife, happy life,” right? I’m sure she totally will have a say in this great man’s next move, since he totally is so amazing as a husband and role model.
January 2nd, 2019 at 12:51 PM ^
Too bad UW waited till the 4th qtr to start playing. Was hoping for a OSU loss and him holding his head one last time....

As Sal Tessio once said "...for old times sake..."
