I block so poor in caveman attack
December 29th, 2018 at 4:26 PM ^
We don't have the tools to do what Harbaugh wants on offense. We have solid WRs and a decent QB, but you need Alabama level olinemen and RBs... Until then, we need to run the QB.
December 29th, 2018 at 4:39 PM ^
And we'll never have offensive linemen that good on a consistent, year after year basis, so jettison the idea of having that kind of offense.
December 29th, 2018 at 4:34 PM ^
Why does it look so hard and take so long?
December 29th, 2018 at 4:40 PM ^
Nico, DPJ, and T. Black are very good receivers. Grant Perry did not seem to improve from previous years. Our best running play of the game was the Turner run where he barely stepped out while running down the sideline on a big run. Shea is a gamer, but has a tendency to under throw the deep ball. Our running game was not that good without Higdon, and needs to improve.
December 29th, 2018 at 4:43 PM ^
Bodyblows....what UM football is taking and what the play callers on offense need. Gonna be worse next year.
December 29th, 2018 at 4:56 PM ^
Was it me, or did the offense seem to be working when they went spread and tempo. The Florida defense was on its heels instead of teeing off. I’m tired of opponents “teeing off” because everyone in the building can see what’s coming,
December 29th, 2018 at 4:58 PM ^
Poor play calling, poor blocking, QB was late on several throws or threw it behind or short. Overall F-

Peoples-Jones would be an All-American right now if he played in the Big 12. Honestly he’d be in the running for that even in Alabama’s offense. We have 3 dynamic athletic WRs who all can do a lot of things well and each does one thing great. Black runs great routes DPJ has hands and YAC ability and Nico is a jumpball juggernaut. All are back next year. Get them the ball. And please stop making offense look so painful!
December 29th, 2018 at 5:46 PM ^
If Harbaughs offense wasn't archaic DPJ would be going down as statistically the best WR in Michigan history. Kid is a stud
DPJ would be a 1000 yard WR this year at a dozen or more other colleges. And to think we have Nico and Black as well.
We are SPOILED at the WR position yet Harbaugh wanted to run the offense around a slightly above average running back -_-
December 29th, 2018 at 7:01 PM ^
Wouldn't surprise me if Jones Collins and Black transfer. They were lied to by JH about opening up the offense for them. There is no reason why we put 3 TEs on the field in spread formations when I have those 3 on it roster. They make offense look so hard to run while other coaches make it seem so simple.
December 29th, 2018 at 6:23 PM ^
Nah, just keep running those body blow plays.
Who needs WRs when you can run for 2.6 yds/play.
December 29th, 2018 at 7:19 PM ^
Stop taking them off the field and playing Perry, Bell, McKeon, etc.
December 30th, 2018 at 7:16 AM ^
Yes, the WRs are underserved by the playcalling as well as Shea's inability to read the whole field and conistently put the ball where it needs to be.
But it looks to me as though these receivers could be a lot more physical; do a better job adjusting their routes and fighting for the ball; and a lot more elusive getting open or drawing defenders when the play breaks down.
December 29th, 2018 at 5:14 PM ^
The offensive line became a seive again just like so many times last year....We thought that was all behind us, but nope, they got their asses kicked up and down that field today. Very lame

Today was a test run to see if the offense could open it up with the passing game more heading into next year with Patterson and the receivers returning, while losing Higdon. Also a preview of next year's starting oline potentially. Both of those were an unmitigated disaster in both execution and playcalling.
December 29th, 2018 at 5:42 PM ^
Waldo is easier to find in a field of candy canes and chocolate bars.
December 29th, 2018 at 5:43 PM ^
Next year were going to have 3....THREE....Elite WRs in Black, Nico, and DPJ. All 3 of those guys will have draft grades in the 1st-3rd round. In addition to that we will have Martin and Bell. If Gentry returns we will have great targets there as well
If Harbaugh doesn't open up the passing game then he is a buffoon
December 29th, 2018 at 6:28 PM ^
Plus, the NFL will have to appreciate their low mileage.
December 29th, 2018 at 7:03 PM ^
There is no guarantee that all of those guys return. Sparty had Rison and a couple of other wideouts leave after a 10 win season because the offense they run is shit. I hate to bring them up, but how much different is it for a receiver here ?
December 30th, 2018 at 12:27 AM ^
Where would they go? None of the players mentioned are eligible to enter the NFL draft until after the 2019 season.
December 30th, 2018 at 9:07 AM ^
Uh to a school that will throw them the ball? The MSU players transferred, they didn’t go to the NFL dumbass
December 29th, 2018 at 6:04 PM ^
What offense?
December 29th, 2018 at 6:25 PM ^
How the heck do they not ask JH about the 2 minute offense at the end of the half. IT was the most atrocious display I have seen in 50 years of football.
December 29th, 2018 at 6:56 PM ^
Maybe they will get better in South Africa?
December 29th, 2018 at 7:20 PM ^
Can we get Matt Canada for OC? Sure, UM shut him down—but his team put up 51 on Urban. Guys been know. As hard to deal with but brilliant on offense.
December 29th, 2018 at 8:10 PM ^
What highly skilled player would want to come here seeing how M utilizes highly skilled players?
December 29th, 2018 at 8:17 PM ^
I think what is driving me crazy is the way we are losing on offense.
- Offensive scheme is outdated
- penalties (delay of game after media time outs)
- lack of big plays or making plays
- 2 min drill has been inept
- clock management is horrible
- player packages are all over the place
- TE’s are used too frequently
- WR talent seems wasted
- play calling seems erratic
- who even calls the plays
December 29th, 2018 at 8:39 PM ^
The lack of tempo is infuriating. We are wasting what will be our most talented WR crew ever in our archaic scheme.
December 29th, 2018 at 8:45 PM ^
Do you ultimately think this gets fixed or is this where Michigan tops off.
I personally don't think Shea is the answer and was furious when he decided to come back.
This is the ceiling with Shea. Why not try McCaffrey who is more of a natural talent.
What changes will be made?
December 29th, 2018 at 8:57 PM ^
Well that is alarming is that even you don't know who calls the plays lol.
December 29th, 2018 at 9:01 PM ^
Or how about Jim Harbaugh landing a 5 star QB like Trevor Lawrence or Josh Rosen to run his system. For a coach that was supposed to be the "ultimate quarterback guru", he still has not obtained a five star can't miss guy under center at Michigan. How come Carr was able to land the likes of Chad Henne and Ryan Mallett, but Harbaugh still has to rely on a transfer in year five.
December 30th, 2018 at 12:25 AM ^
Shea Patterson was a 5 star.
December 29th, 2018 at 9:44 PM ^
mostly fair points. do you have any idea from your sources as to what is the roadblock there? Is it Jim's philosophies? The playcall by committee? These coaches know way too much football for us armchair quarterbacks to point out stuff they don't know. Is it a philosophical opposition to things like tempo, better player packages, etc... because we want to MANBALL or something? Maybe I'm hoping there's a least some measure of self-awareness here that the lightbulb will come on? What's stopping us from hurrying up, putting our best WRs on the field on every place, throwing to Evans in space, and all the other problems we all think we see? I don't think it's HAWTAKEish to wonder about some of these persistent things and if it's ultimately a philosophical roadblock or some other problem beyond "the coaches haven't thought of that."
December 29th, 2018 at 11:49 PM ^
Our five minute drill is infuriating. I’m ready to move on from Harbaugh. He initially did a great job, so thanks. Now it’s time to stop fucking up the program and leave.

December 29th, 2018 at 8:42 PM ^
Pep should've been Kiffin'd at the airport.
December 29th, 2018 at 9:16 PM ^
Let the QB decide who plays in the spring. McCaffrey is more athletic and gas a great touch on the ball. Shea is a backup NFL QB at best
December 29th, 2018 at 9:17 PM ^
McKeon should rarely, if ever, see the field.
This should easily be a 3 WR offense on basically every snap and they should play more up tempo. The defense will be quite a bit worse next year so the offense will need to make a major step forward.
Hopefully Charbonnet is the real deal and can start from day 1. The o line still needs to take a major leap forward too.
Pep should have been fired last offseason and we are still paying for not doing that.
December 29th, 2018 at 10:02 PM ^
Wish list for 2019:
--Charbonet and Turner are the main ballcarriers.
--Evans turns into a slot/APB, getting ball in space with regularity.
--Don't be afraid to start McCaffrey
--Black, Collins, DPJ 50 catches each
December 29th, 2018 at 10:33 PM ^
Evans looks like he got too big and lost a step
December 29th, 2018 at 9:22 PM ^
Shea didn't improve at all over the course of the season. That might have been the biggest disappointment for me on offense.
It would also be concerning if McCaffery wasn't at his level by year 3.
The OL is still not any good- better than it was last year and Warriner did a pretty good job but they still have a long way to go. I don't understand how Runyan was 1st team all big ten.
December 29th, 2018 at 9:54 PM ^
I have been wondering for a while if Shea not improving is on Shea or if it's the offensive system he chose (Michigan's manball style) and the coaches trying to shoe-horn him into it.
December 29th, 2018 at 11:52 PM ^
Shea got worse. Not from the first game, but mid season to now. Total regression.
December 29th, 2018 at 9:50 PM ^
Watched the game in bits and pieces. The offense is just not crisp. I am no coach so don't know the details but I can see what coaches are trying to do but for whatever reason offense seems hard to exexute or just looks like it's missing assignments on the regular. I have no clue why Bama is able to do it and not UM (execution part). May be their receivers are that much more explosive or their QB is that much better or their o line. Can M get there ? I hope so. Would be nice to have slants and digs with double move. I jsut remember chesson doing double moves and burning Florida DBs...why aren't our receivers doing that ?
Oh well. I trust the coaches (looks like lots here just want blood). I just feel like continuity has more benefits than not (see MSU). Let's keep working on installing more passing concepts and build a strong line.
