OT: Mike Weber Declares for NFL Draft

He's gone. LINK. And Dwayne Haskins cryptically tweeted back at him last night saying, "One more year Mikey." Some OSU fans are trying to take that as a sign that Haskins is coming back. I doubt Haskins is coming back.

Every time I hear about Weber it reminds me of On the Waterfront - "I coulda have class. I coulda been a contender. I coulda been somebody, instead of a bun, which is what I am."

If he had decided to say screw OSU for the dick recruiting move and fought it to come back to us, I think he would've had a much higher profile. Seemed like we could have used him more than they did and both our fortunes would have changed.

The magic of this rivalry is that we get the talented Ohio players who seek something beyond OSU be it academically or otherwise.  When we lose Michigan players to OSU we seem to equate it to a failure of our Michigan system.  The recruitment of Weber likely failed because of what we were producing on the field at the time (2014 is a year we all want to forget).  Based on his tweet the week of the Game though it could be something deeper for Weber.  Sure it's a 21 year old who wants to mock an archrival but in every Game he played he was brought in (at least to me) to put the Game away.  The 2017 late game TD and his TD this year (maybe others) seemed to be tailor made for OSU to give him a highlight reel memory, a moment he will relish long into old age.  My point is he maybe have harbored a deep hatred for Michigan (as a state and as places with academic institutions).  The seeds get planted early (Think DeVeon Smith watching VHS tapes of MSU) and no doubt OSU stoked it for him during his time there.  It seemed though like he was the conduit for Michigan hatred.  Best of luck to him and forgive the psych eval here........he just seemed to hate us on a different plane and OSU seemed to condone it.

While it’s true that Haskins tore us up, the Taco Bell unsung hero of that game was Weber. Dobbins was coming off a 40 carry game against Maryland and couldn’t get going against us. Weber is the guy who gained ~100 yards and provided the ground attack that had been hit or miss for them the rest of the season. I am glad to see him go.

Haskins was a double edged sword for OSU. He could deal but his lack of ability to run really impacted their run game. Urban was a zone read or die coach and Haskins was a terrible zone read QB. (Won’t matter where he is going)

Most of the season they were out of balance. The run game stunk.  They tried a lot of RPOs but the OL struggled because their blocking schemes weren’t working.  With Barrett guys like Weber feasted because D’s had to account for him.

It took them till November to find a consistent run game and it was because they finally called design runs instead of RPOs.  Add in Haskins grew a pair and started keeping once and awhile.

OSU got it fixed but Haskins hindered the run game most of the year (first world problems...)

I don't know why Haskins should stay. He broke almost every single-season passing record for a QB in Big Ten history. His accuracy is on-point, and he's not going to all of a sudden become an elite athlete by staying another year. The guy has nothing left to prove, and he really doesn't have much more of his own game that he can work on. Anything else that could raise his value, like being more mobile, faster, more athletic, etc., is just not part of his game.

The only reason he'd stay, in my mind, is if he felt some personal calling to do so. I.e. winning a national championship, winning the Heisman, etc. I'd also leave because even though OSU is stacked with talent next year, you technically don't know what you're getting with Ryan Day. They'll still be good, but the question is how good. Meyer leaving will have an effect, whether they want to admit it or not. And it won't likely be a positive effect.

Urban was a mediocre QB developer. Ryan Day is scary good. Having Day back has more of an influence than Meyer for Haskins

Haskins’ personal QB coach, Quincy Avery,  is a huge fan of Ryan Day. Said “If I had a son playing QB I’d want him to play for Ryan Day”

I really think his advice to Haskins matters more than anything.

If Avery thinks another 12-15 starts is critical to his long term development, he stays.

If Avery tells him to get paid, he goes.

He goes....

Haskins is definitely gone, but Weber is meh.  I'd rather see him share snaps to be honest as I don't think he's as dangerous as Dobbins.

Big deal, that only leaves them with Dobbins and then Master Teague the next in line. They seem to just keep on coming.

Good Luck to Mike anyway.
