Zach Charbonnet gets huge bump on Rivals

Charbonnet has moved up to #39 in Rivals ranking. While we don't care much for Rivals (I think?) it does mean he will end up with a very good composite ranking.

Running back is a question mark next year. We have some solid backs but no one has proven to be a real game changing player in the backfield. Tons of guys do it as true freshmen. That would be awesome to see him go off for 1,200 yards next year.

Samuels may well be "Higdon"...he sure is chiseled like him. Folks don't know. A year from now he's as likely to be "the man" as anyone of the RBs. Everything is simply talk at this time. The RB room is going to be good enough.

Charbonnet is a five star...sorry about that you hand-wringers...just watch his film.

Why has Chris Hinton taken such a drop at every recruiting site? He was a top 30 prospect across the board but now down in the 50-70 range. Thoughts on why the drop?

From what I understand he hasn't hit the camp circuit at all. Typically players get bumped up from camp performances, especially if the camp is being hosted by one of the recruiting services. If you're at a Rivals camp you're probably going to get a bump on your Rivals ranking.

This is what give credence to the “stars don’t matter” folks.

This situation plays out every year. Guys who go to the most camps get the most stars. Guys who don’t get ignored.

Met a guy a couple years ago who helps his brother in law coach a HS team in Minnesota. He told me that you could build a competent D1 O line out of completely unrated guys in Wisconsin alone. He mentioned one kid who was 100% as D1 ready as any lineman he’s ever seen and didn’t even go to college because his family owns a big dairy farm and he just wanted to get to work.

Similarly, if your even from the state of Florida you get what? 2 stars just for that.

I loved the story about the Boise st. Coach that just traveled all over the fly over country recruiting QBs. Knowing that in a school of 3-400 kids he’s the best athlete and although he may be the #456 rated QB in the nation(no camps) he’s likely to be a decent LB or S or TE. Genius.

Chris got his early ratings based upon the fact that he is a very good player...and his last name is "Hinton". Chris' film still says he is very good...it does not declare that he is great-he may or may not be. His "little" brother, on the other hand...OH MY!!!

Here's a link to me saying that Charbonnet was underrated when he was a low 4-star, before he committed, and Kurpit's miserable ass chiming in.

Show yourself, Kurpit, you coward.

I could see Mazi getting some time next year, as well as Hinton, but I think Solomon getting healthy will be a major part of improving the DT play. He basically missed the whole year between his knee and his sickness. Also have to think that one or two players step up between Dwumfour, Jeter, and Kemp.

A big thing with true freshmen DTs is their strength to hold up against more developed FBS OL, so the fact that Mazi is an EE will help him a ton.

I think Dax Hill is going to start in Kinnel's spot next year. He's just so talented that we won't be able to keep off the field, even though he's not an EE.

I don't know Nolan Rumler's status as an EE, but he's going to be a dog. I like all of our OL commits really, though the OL should be strong next year and not much room for a freshman to break through.

I could see Giles Jackson getting some touches next year with how much speed and twitch he brings. With Ambry needing to be an every down corner next year, Giles could take Ambry's offensive snaps (and maybe then some).

Hard to say, I really like our class. Like a lot of guys. I think David Ojabo has the potential to be a monster. I think Zach Harrison is probably a two-deep guy if we can close on him, especially since he'd be an EE. Without knowing whether we have Harrison or not I'd say my top 3 for immediate impact are Charbonnet, Hill, and Jackson, but I really like a lot of these guys, I think it's a stellar class.

Mazi is a guy flying under the radar a bit who I think will be excellent. I'd bet a dollar he ends up on the Solomon freshman track and gets in the rotation next year before blowing up from there (I also expect to see that blowup from Aubrey when he gets healthy).

Real strong dude with plus quickness + EE who talked about how essential a strength program was to his college decision + Herbert + Mattison DL with some 4th year guys to lean on. I like those tea leaves.
