Why not?
UCF - FL would be a much better attendance and ratings matchup for the Peach bowl in Atlanta than MICH - FL for the 3rd time in 4 years would be.
December 2nd, 2018 at 10:52 AM ^
Ehh I disagree. Fiesta has the opportunity for LSU-Michigan, a matchup that has never happened, with two huge fanbases on Jan 1 rather than Dec 29. That seems like an easy decision with regards to ratings, attendance, intrigue, etc.
As for the Peach - they'd get way better attendance with UCF-UF. Atlanta is crawling with Florida fans, and obviously the fans of both teams who are located in Florida could get to the game relatively easily. They could sell state rivalry. It doesn't put UCF on Jan 1 to compete with bigger brand teams for ratings.
Idk I kind of think we'll be in the Fiesta against LSU.

Waiting on an "invitation" from assholes in obnoxious jackets that we can't really turn down to play in an exhibition game is so fucking depressing. Bowl games that mean nothing are so 1970. Expand the playoffs and make the games count or let these kids go back to campus and rest up for next season. The only reason anyone likes this is because they let you have 15 more practices.
December 2nd, 2018 at 12:17 AM ^
I already have tix for the Peach Bowl, so works for me
December 2nd, 2018 at 12:19 AM ^
Felipe Franks just yelled “dear God, not again!”
December 2nd, 2018 at 12:22 AM ^
Who picks first? Peach or fiesta? I think UM will be first at large selected
December 2nd, 2018 at 12:23 AM ^
Fuck this. Nobody will travel to see another game against Floriduh. What a shitstain matchup.
December 2nd, 2018 at 10:01 AM ^
Can confirm. Will be buying tickets tonight if it’s against anybody but Florida.
December 2nd, 2018 at 12:33 AM ^
no no no no no no no no no no no no no
December 2nd, 2018 at 12:36 AM ^
If Oklahoma goes to the playoff the only options the committee has is coming up with 2 pairs out of: Michigan, UCF, Florida, and LSU. And Florida can't play LSU. Which means we can't play UCF. So Florida or LSU it is. If I was them id do Florida vs UCF. Have an instate battle.
December 2nd, 2018 at 12:43 AM ^
You know im just thinkin out loud, why is florida guaranteed to get a NY6 game. Why cant PSU or WSU or any other team get in. FUck the sec, they would have basically 4 teams in the important games.
December 2nd, 2018 at 12:56 AM ^
Because Florida beat LSU and LSU beat Georgia and OH BOY Georgia almost beat Alabama so all those teams must be top five teams!! The SEC circle jerk is eternal
December 2nd, 2018 at 2:19 AM ^
Yeah you're not wrong. But there's no way for WSU, PSU, or WVU to all of the sudden jump Florida and LSU on a week none of them played. So Florida and LSU are pretty much locked in.
December 2nd, 2018 at 1:05 AM ^
what about Georgia?
December 2nd, 2018 at 1:13 AM ^
Sugar v TX
December 2nd, 2018 at 12:39 AM ^
This team is way better than a bowl game on December 29th. This bowl system sucks.
December 2nd, 2018 at 12:50 AM ^
Considering the College Football Playoff is on December 29th.......
But yeah I get it. January 1 isn't that all-important day to be playing on anymore.
December 2nd, 2018 at 12:52 AM ^
The Peach Bowl is a NY6 bowl tho. If you don’t make the CFP it’s still among the top bowl selections you can go to. Not sure what the date of the game has to do with it? Last year we played on Jan 1. And I’ll take the peach over the outback anyday.
December 2nd, 2018 at 12:57 AM ^
The Peach Bowl might as well be the Cherry Bowl. It was never prestigious.
December 2nd, 2018 at 1:18 AM ^
Yeah, it was always a minor bowl. How did it weasel its way into the CFP / NY6 rotation?
December 2nd, 2018 at 1:35 AM ^
Wasn’t the Peach the Chicken Bowl a few years ago?
December 2nd, 2018 at 2:34 AM ^
Atlanta hosting the Sugar Bowl post-Katrina impressed people. Plus, it was really Peach or Citrus to round out the NY6 and there was already one in Florida.
December 2nd, 2018 at 12:04 PM ^
The main reason is because Atlanta is the "capital" of SEC country. That's why it got to be a NY6 bowl.
If the Peach bowl was in Charlotte or Memphis it would not get a sniff of the NY6 bowls.
December 2nd, 2018 at 2:31 AM ^
True, but It’s not about the history. It’s about the current system. The Peach Bowl is among the NY6 and that makes it one of the best bowls a team can go to.
December 2nd, 2018 at 1:01 AM ^
I'd rather see Michigan play on Dec. 29 than Jan. 1. I'm usually hung over on New Years Day. But a hangover while watching Michigan and Florida play again may help me enjoy the game more. Double negative = positive?
December 2nd, 2018 at 1:16 AM ^
December 29th is a Saturday, so it's not as bad as it seems. It's not like it's on a Tuesday night.
December 2nd, 2018 at 12:40 AM ^
Seems like the bowl selections and who has to play who due to old stupid rules is like Harbaugh’s offense. Old and outdated. Needs updated ASAP.
December 2nd, 2018 at 12:50 AM ^
The only thing old and outdated are the comments about Harbaugh's offense.
December 2nd, 2018 at 1:28 AM ^
No way man. I really think Harbaugh needs to incorporate some zone read and shotgun/pistol next year...
December 2nd, 2018 at 2:28 AM ^
It's pretty funny to think about all the comments in the Neck Sharpies articles. "Harbaugh is an evil genius, he screws with your linebackers keys". Now he sucks apparently.
December 2nd, 2018 at 12:42 AM ^
I don't see them matching us up with them again... Especially when UF - UCF is out there for the making.
We'll play LSU, just a question of whether in Atlanta or Glendale.
December 2nd, 2018 at 12:49 AM ^
Rather play in AZ.
December 2nd, 2018 at 12:51 AM ^
So would I, since I live 7 miles from the stadium.
December 2nd, 2018 at 12:50 AM ^
Unless Ohio state somehow gets in the top four we’re locked with Florida. LSU can’t vs Florida so we can’t vs UCF. And no way Fiesta takes FLA over LSU.
December 2nd, 2018 at 12:48 AM ^
All Memphis had to do was not choke on applesauce and we wouldn’t face Florida for the 50th time. Fuck them.
December 2nd, 2018 at 12:56 AM ^
Can we start a petition to not play Florida again? Not joking
December 2nd, 2018 at 1:32 AM ^
Don't ask. Just take the initiative.
December 2nd, 2018 at 8:51 AM ^
Tweet at the peach bowl and let them know how you feel: @CFAPeachbowl
December 2nd, 2018 at 12:58 AM ^
I thought the Peach was a New Years Six Bowl, why is it on the 29th?
December 2nd, 2018 at 2:37 AM ^
Because NYE is a working Monday, so to maximize ratings they moved games to the preceding Saturday. Remember how pissed people were with the NYE games in year two of the playoff?
December 2nd, 2018 at 1:07 AM ^
The only people who will watch this are those Florida and Michigan fans who aren't so disgruntled that they can stand to watch their teams one more time this season. The rest of the country doesn't give two shits about another UM-FL matchup.
December 2nd, 2018 at 1:07 AM ^
Doesn't the bowl get a say?
Michigan - FL for the 3rd time in 4 years is not going to move the needle. Attendance and ratings will suck.
If I'm the bowl, I'm going to try to horse-trade my way out of that.
UCF and FL would create much bigger buzz for a bowl.
December 2nd, 2018 at 2:15 AM ^
The one problem that I have with your analysis is that in the era of playoffs, not many people outside of the fan bases of the teams playing give a shit about the bowls. The ratings generally suck unless there is a compelling story line. From a ratings standpoint, there won’t be any difference between us playing Florida, LSU, USF or Texas. Just a matchup of good but not great teams who didn’t make the playoffs in a bowl with zero implications.
December 2nd, 2018 at 11:47 AM ^
Well there’s conference pride and helping to establish pre-season rankings for next year.
Other than that no implications.
December 2nd, 2018 at 1:12 AM ^
Oh god, please not fucking UF again.
December 2nd, 2018 at 1:15 AM ^
Kind of tired playing Florida ?
December 2nd, 2018 at 1:15 AM ^
Well, at least this time we have Mr. Shark Tqnk on our side
December 2nd, 2018 at 1:23 AM ^
Give us Lsu or Texas ...fuck playing Fla again
December 2nd, 2018 at 1:24 AM ^
Shouldn't OSU be going to the playoff and Michigan playing in the Rose Bowl??
