No, that's the type of hire that someone makes when it seems like a good idea. I thought it was a hire, so did Brian and many others. In hindsight it looks terrible.
You could accuse Harbaugh of doing that when he hired Don Brown (hiring an outside guy who is achieving success elsewhere). And I think we are all happy about that decision.
November 29th, 2018 at 4:34 PM ^
From what I have read here since last Saturday, no, not everyone is happy about that decision.
November 29th, 2018 at 7:30 PM ^
When Don has the recruits and talent that is needed to run his scheme against the best offensive teams is when we'll be happy. You think he can just make adjustments and shut that offense down next year in Ann Arbor? Not going to happen. That gun is cocked, loaded and coming right back. The only chances they have next year is a ton of lucky swings or that these boys work so hard that they get that much stronger and faster.
November 29th, 2018 at 10:44 PM ^
If Haskins goes to the NFL, OSU will not be that great on offense next year. They don’t have another NFL QB on the roster that can hit guys like Haskins can. I’m not saying they’ll be bad on offense next year; it should be a good offense. But Haskins is a legit first round NFL QB. Urban has only ever had 1 of those in his career. There’s not another QB on that roster like Haskins. So yes there offense will be good next year, and it will be a good game. But they are not putting up 62 next year at the Big House. Unless Haskins comes back and Michigan doesn’t adjust at all. I doubt Haskins comes back though.

Hey Skyblue
Congrats moron.
You just outed yourself as a concern troll.
I'll add "Dave Brandon hired Rich Rod" to your list of MGoBlog contributions.

As long as he had a restraining order against the 335, RR would be a great OC hire
November 29th, 2018 at 3:22 PM ^
great hire for SC. Sorry, my wife is an alum
November 29th, 2018 at 4:11 PM ^
Congrats, she must be hot.
November 29th, 2018 at 3:22 PM ^
Kliff and Tim should be a buddy comedy.
November 29th, 2018 at 3:23 PM ^
I'm glad this is posted so hopefully this is the last post about a Big 12 coach with a losing record I have to see this year on here.
November 29th, 2018 at 3:34 PM ^
Between that and Geoff Brohm kicking off a bidding war for a .500 coach, I’m not sure which requires more mental gymnastics...
November 29th, 2018 at 4:35 PM ^
When did Jeff become Geoff? Did Ancestry.com reveal his British side?
December 1st, 2018 at 1:21 AM ^
Lol, I have zero fucking clue what made me think he spelled his name the weird way. It’s hell getting old, now why am I in this room again?
November 29th, 2018 at 3:24 PM ^
John Harbaugh to Michigan as OC.
You heard it here first.
/s
November 29th, 2018 at 3:36 PM ^
lol yeah you should duck
November 29th, 2018 at 3:24 PM ^
The Kliff for OC crowd, who is your back-up?
November 29th, 2018 at 3:33 PM ^
Joey Freshwater

Tony Annese
November 29th, 2018 at 4:03 PM ^
I'm not in the 'Kliff-krowd', but If there has to be a change at the OC position, ANY chance we look at Satterfield with Appalachian State? On top of that, ANY chance he leaves a HC position at his Alma Mater for an OC position at Michigan? I highly doubt it.
November 29th, 2018 at 6:42 PM ^
I think UL is going to offer him HC position
November 29th, 2018 at 4:23 PM ^
Matt Moore from Troy.
November 29th, 2018 at 6:10 PM ^
He's busy with the Detroit Tigers.

Kinda surprised I havent heard Bob Stitt brought up again this time around, but that's probably for the best.
November 30th, 2018 at 2:01 AM ^
Stitt happens when you least expect it.
November 29th, 2018 at 3:25 PM ^
Luckily, we're a basketball school, so this news doesn't affect us.
November 29th, 2018 at 4:26 PM ^
Keep those Canadian b-ballers coming Rob M!
November 29th, 2018 at 3:25 PM ^
Damn he's going to kill it there. Meanwhile we're still stuck in the 1970's.
November 29th, 2018 at 3:33 PM ^
Being jealous of USC right now is amazingly moronic.
November 29th, 2018 at 5:21 PM ^
Why are you not banned?
November 29th, 2018 at 3:27 PM ^
Wow. That is a HUGE Get for them. Tee Martin < Kliff Slingsbury.
I hate USC, but this should help them significantly.
November 29th, 2018 at 3:33 PM ^
Kliff is a huge plus. Drevno is a huge kick in the nuts.
November 29th, 2018 at 4:07 PM ^
I'd almost argue that this not only offsets the decision to keep Drevno, however, also should help mask that OL. Expect them to throw the ball 8-12 times more per game, easily. Primarily out of the Shotgun... some Pistol formations? I haven't watched much of TTU this year.
November 29th, 2018 at 4:05 PM ^
I would actually like Harbaugh to hire Tee Martin. I have no idea for what position but I do know that he’s one of the best recruiters in the country.
November 29th, 2018 at 4:07 PM ^
No Thanks. I'd rather keep Pep than go after Tee Martin.
Doesn't Martin HATE Michigan too? Wasn't he part of the Peyton piss-fest?
November 29th, 2018 at 4:19 PM ^
Tee Martin is a fantastic recruiter and we should absolutely hire him... as the WR coach replacement when Mcelwain (sp?) leaves in the offseason.
November 29th, 2018 at 5:00 PM ^
Tee Martin's kid, Kaden, is a baller. Starting QB as a freshman at my kid's high school. Already has an Alabama and SC offer. (let's see if they revoke it now).
November 29th, 2018 at 4:45 PM ^
I’m not saying to replace Pep. He would t get that job but they could find a spot. If you have a chance to get a recruiter of his caliber you try to get him on staff and figure it out after.
November 29th, 2018 at 3:28 PM ^
Not sure I would have taken this job. Clay Helton is less popular in LA than the smog.
November 29th, 2018 at 3:31 PM ^
Thus Interim HC spot becomes open and permanent if he does well.
November 29th, 2018 at 3:58 PM ^
SC's boosters want to make a run at one of their NFL alums, like Del Rio or Fisher.
November 29th, 2018 at 6:38 PM ^
Because USC alums are morons. Why would anyone want to hire retreads?
The most successful coaches in USC's history - Pete Carroll, John Robinson, and John McKay - were all outsiders. In fact, Robinson and McKay were Oregon alums.
November 29th, 2018 at 3:30 PM ^
Seems a bit risky. If SC doesn't have a major bounceback year he could be looking for a job again when Helton is canned.
November 29th, 2018 at 3:40 PM ^
Or he just replaces him as HC
November 29th, 2018 at 3:49 PM ^
And then is fired himself the next season when he goes 6-6/7-5.
November 29th, 2018 at 3:49 PM ^
I really doubt he'll have a hard time finding a job, in college or the pros.
November 29th, 2018 at 3:31 PM ^
I bet he turns around their offensive woes relatively quickly too.
November 29th, 2018 at 3:39 PM ^
Who are the actual candidates we could look at?
November 29th, 2018 at 3:49 PM ^
Like it or not, I don't think we are in the market.
November 29th, 2018 at 3:53 PM ^
Well I know teams like UCF, Memphis, Houston, Oklahoma St, Houston, Missouri, Syracuse, Boise St, NC St, etc all have high scoring offenses. Why cant Harbaugh pluck a guy from one of these schools?
He basically looked at total defense and saw how good BC was and went and got Don Brown. No reason it cant work for the offense.
All of these schools run a variation of uptempo/spread and would be an upgrade to the archaic style Michigan currently deploys.
