I hate appreciation threads but here we are: Jake Moody saved our asses tonight

It is what it is: I think you guys throw out appreciation threads for anyone that does what is expected of them.

But I’m posting one myself because without Jake Moody we would have lost a game that we were supposed to win by 28. He scored 5 more points than our offense. And he got the nod in warmups nonetheless.

Jake, thank you for keeping our season alive. Go Blue.

Very impressive .

I belive that is a record for the most field most in one game. I think Nordin tied the record last year with 5 in one game.

Great work. I wondwr. What his range is?

I wonder what happened to Nordin. Usually when a power kicker gets the yips his kicks would be good from 50 but bot accurate. But Nordin can barely clear the crossbar

I really don't know, but I'd guess it's like free-throw shooting where mind and muscle are all out of whack. If it's not some sort of injury, he's going to need some down time during the off season to get it sorted out. If he hasn't blown coach's confidence: unfortunately for him, he left the door open and the competition just walked in.

I had been wondering if Harbaugh would replace Nordin at some point...obvious that he has been struggling for a while. Reminiscent of the 2012 season with the 49ers where Akers struggled and they brought in at least one other kicker to try out, but Harbaugh ended up sticking with Akers.

That was the year they lost to the Ravens in the Super Bowl but I think Akers played pretty well through the playoffs.

1. You hate appreciation threads, so you started the second thread of the day for the kicker? Why not just stick your appreciation in that thread? https://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/jake-moody-appreciation-thread-first-half-hero Sure, he ended up being the second-half-hero too, which I don't recall many of us being too happy that he had to be, so kudos. But you're not doing a very good job of hating appreciation threads...

2. Buncha people saying that we would have lost without him. Yes, we would have lost without those 18 points. Except that Quinn would have knocked at least 4 of those through, and if we have no kicker at all, we factor that in and probably end up putting the ball into the endozne more than enough.

3. People saying that Coach benched Nordin... did you listen to Jake's answers to the press after the game? He said that it was Quinn's decision not to go.

Yep, that's what Moody made it sound like--just didn't feel well and decided he couldn't go at the last second. All the talk about "the benching" doesn't fit what the actual players said.

I appreciate the kid. He did great. My parents live in Northville. Great local story now. The way we won it, he was an MVP candidate. But to suggest that we don't win with someone else in there... It's gotta be at least 95% that we do.

Weird the negging on this thread...

Maybe.  Maybe not.  Nordin has been almost 100% on XP's even though half of them look like a clipped duck.  Was dumb to go for 2 at that point in the game.  So I figure - Nordin goes 2 for 6 on those field goal attempts, Harbs reverses time and gets a clue and kicks the XP and is successful.  We have overtime in that case - and you never know what woulda happened.

Good job for doing your job.

RANT AHEAD:

Kickers don't hit in practice. If your sending the kicker out to win the game, you didn't do enough to win and shouldn't be mad when they miss. I hope this was the only game we needed him, to me football is better when you don't need a kicker or QB to win, they can't be trusted. Run the ball and play great Defense, if the QB is playing well that's just whip cream on ice cream, kickers on well that's the cherry on top.

Congrats Jake, college is now 100% paid for after last night.  However, concerns about the "John Birch Society" approach in the red zone.  Michigan has a 6-8 TE that is impossible to match up against.  6-5, 6-4 and 6-2 receivers. Offense doesn't have to rely on pounding between tackles and settling for FG's.  Open up the playbook a little.
