Harbaugh getting DRAGGED in the media today

Submitted by jamesjosephharbaugh on

Just google search for “Harbaugh” and watch the arrows fly. Maybe it’s deserved, maybe it’s hot takes. But it’s everywhere

The one that stood out to me was Yahoo Sports saying this feels like the beginning of the end for Harbaugh.

I'm with you, Old.

From the gametime decisions to the lackluster results on the recruiting trail, our program is in trouble. Meanwhile, OSU continues to widen that gap against us with incredible recruiting classes and great on-field results.

They just put up 77 points yesterday, and they've gone through the entirety of fall camp without their head coach.

You were absolutely right. I'll take my crow pan-fried and wash it down with Colt 45 (and yet, the resulting turd will still be prettier than what we saw for the first half of last night's game).

I can't believe I fell for all that hype. That really closely resembled the Utah game, except this is year four and the team still comes out flat and looks completely unprepared for teams with a pulse. Time will tell how good ND really is, but they didn't seem all that impressive to me. We just went out there looking like deer in the headlights and got smoked.

Sure, we looked decent in the 2nd half, but why should it take an entire half of football getting flushed down the drain in order for us to figure out what we're doing? Isn't that what all that practice was for? It sure as hell didn't take Bryan Kelly a wasted half of football to prepare his team. As much as we make fun of the dude, he straight up outcoached Harbaugh.

Sure, things could turn around, but the optimism that I've had for the past three years is totally gone.

I feel sorry for Chase Winovich and Devin Bush.  They are the only two who seem to give a shit.  The rest of the defense played like garbage last night.  What a joke this program has become.  Those who stay will be me met with mediocrity.  Who's got it better than us? Everybody.

Last night, I was hoping that coach Corso would take the headset from Harbaugh.

I am officially on the "Fire Harbaugh" train.

What bothers me the most about this team and Jim is that it is year 4 and we still dont have a QB. Every year relying on transfers. To me this is more bizarre than the OL.

If you think we don't have a QB you simply have no fundamental understanding of football mechanics. QB play was fine. In fact, Patterson had better numbers than Wimbush and both he and McCaffery kept a 67% completion rate.

Given the Tackle black hole (which is not a QB issue), the only real complaint I see that falls on the QB is time management. My guess is that in spinning up Patterson that was one aspect of things that they did not get to early in the season, in favor of giving him a better grasp on the whole playbook. That or they were going "slow and steady" on the 2 minute drill because of said tackle issues.

It's not bizarre at all. Hoke fucked us at the QB position through under-recruiting and bad recruiting and development

The cupboard was pretty bare

Last night you saw Patterson and McCaffery both look pretty good. Speight looked good when his OL gave him time to throw. Rudock looked good too

The common thread is that the OL play, particularly pass blocking, has been atrocious

if we had even AVERAGE tackle play, this is a Top 5 team the last 3 years

But we have basement-dwelling tackle play, so we're a middle of the road team in the 20-30 range

The coaching staff laid an egg in the premier night game to open the season.  He deserves every bit of the criticism he’s getting.

Last Night: Apathy, malaise, resignation.

Today: It is beautiful outside and I have desire to start my first day as a non-Michigan football fan in decades!

I am starting to feel much better now.

I'm convinced that nothing matters bc we're all just in a race to see who gets pummeled by Bama. Until something drastic changes in college football, we're stuck in purgatory with all the other struggling "historical programs" -- like Texas, Tennessee, and Notre Dame. It takes about 2 drives for me to say, "welp, this team wouldn't touch Bama."

As well he shoul! Harbaugh has had it so easy here. Very few ask the real questions and even fewer put pressure on him and hold him accountable for his mistakes and falling backward with the program rather than forward.

There is a door over there, don't let it hit you in the butt on the way out.  These hot takes about coach are garbage.  We are NOT going to get a coach better than him.  All of you so called fans needs to get it through your heads, and if you do run him out of town you are going to continue this cycle which is why the o line has been so grappling the first place.

Maybe the anger is deserved for the two minute drill and the some of the play calls, but Harbaugh has to work with the players he has. The OL is a product of poor recruiting, which can be partly attributed to the coaching staff, but at what point is the fan base going to look at this situation for what it really is. Michigan football isn’t what it used to be. We don’t just get every great talent anymore. Warriner has been on the job for what 7-8 months. Maybe we pump the brakes a bit, realize that this team is flawed (surprise, we knew that), and support the team for what it is...decent, but not elite. We lost to a good (not great) ND team in the first game and had a chance to tie it up.

For the fan base that wants Harbaugh fired, and to those who say “why do I watch this”, hey guys, don’t like what you see, fine, don’t watch. No one is forcing you. You bitch and moan like children. You whine worse than a hormonal high school girl. You want to argue play calls and management of the clock, fine, valid concerns. You want to say you’ll stop watching, have a ball.

To those who thought we were national champions contenders, I’m not sure you have an accurate representation of the team. We aren’t there. The hole we are climbing out of with Hoke is deeper than you thought. The constant changing offensive staff isn’t helping.

So where do I think this team goes? I think they are average. That’s not Michigan standards. I get it, but do I think they are going to win 9 games, yeah. I think they are built to improve. Last night was one game. The defense dug in last night, they will be fine. The offense moved the ball at times. Patterson was an improvement at QB. Let’s remember, he was in game one.

Sorry for my ramblings. I’m just tired of the “I’m done watching this...” crowd. If you don’t want to watch, don’t. Shut up and go home. Let fans who care argue about the team they won’t give up on.

I know you consider yourself a “fan who cares” but your not. You’re a delusional cult member who doesn’t understand responsibility. Poor OL recruiting is “partly attributed to the coaching staff”, really? Where does the rest of the responsibilities lie? You lost any shred of credibility with that statement, nobody needed to read past that part of your comment.

I think last night was a shitshow. There are some reasoned takes saying otherwise but I can’t unsee the following:

1) The idiotic snap system where the QB is frantically clapping only to get Ruiz attention for another signal...to snap the ball. The time it takes to get the clapping heard or acknowledged to the snap wasted a ridiculous amount of time, which leads me to #2

2) Holy cow on the huddling all of the 4th, as if M was chewing clock on purpose bc Harbs thought he had the lead. It’s one thing leading in the 4th and being methodical, but when the pace of the game isn’t changed and they drive 40 yards in 5 minutes, is there a sense of satisfaction from the staff “ah, it’s working?”

3) Everyone May be stronger, leaner, and OMG look at his muscles but it hasn’t t helped Higdon pick up blockers, TE catch passes, OL do anything, or help DB’s find the ball or cover crossing routes

4) Is there a DB with ball skills of any sort? Does Don Brown solve every 3rd and long with aggression? We make jokes about QB’s arm punting but every game features one of the corners, with no safety help, getting torched on an arm punt  - maybe it’s time to concede that’s exactly part of the game plan opponents install based a good idea it’ll work  Meanwhile, Michigan just completed its longest pass in the air since 2012

Wow

Can’t do anymore bc it’s sport overwhelming

I wish I could say I am surprised by how much negativity our fans are displaying toward Harbaugh and this team. It is bewildering how quickly some of y’all can forget how absolutely horrible we were throughout the RR/Hoke years (but yes, we did have one amazing year due to a once-in-a-generation talent at QB). This program is undoubtedly headed in the right direction and SHOWING SIGNS that it is headed in the right direction. If you can’t, or don’t want, to see those signs, that’s your problem. Honestly, we were still IN THIS GAME despite spotting them 14 quick points fueled by untimely and uncharacteristic penalties.

-QB sitch is way better.

-OL is still an issue, but is likely to improve over the course of the year.

-Receivers look much better.

-RB looked solid, despite lack of yardage

-Front 7 looked very good. ND’s OL played them very well.

-Secondary played well, except when they didn’t. 3-4 key plays given up by this secondary (and those penalties) were absolutely devastating.

-Game management was questionable but not egregious in my opinion. With the current level of development and the extremely hostile environment, it is understandable to not hurry, hurry, hurry at the end of this game. Again, WE WERE STILL IN THIS until the fumble, so it’s not like clock management cost us an opportunity...

MSU and PSU both laid eggs this week against lesser opponents than ND. There is no reason we can’t roll into Columbus undefeated in our division. Let’s see what happens, and for goodness’s sake: try to get some perspective.

Well some of us "y'alls" aren't seeing much improvement to the heralded Harbaugh era compared to the RR/Hoke era's". Minimal at very best. Talent is there, results aren't. The secondary played well, except when they didn't"...WTF is that? "MSU and PSU laid eggs" and Michigan is a dumpster fire. So there's that. How about you C_T_D out and get some perspective. Thinking UM can "roll into Columbus undefeated in our division" shows your lack of it.

A 4 game losing streak is all you need to know. We lose every 50/50 game, we never play at or above expectations, and teams that are our equal are beating us at a 4-1 clip.

Is Michigan destroying coaches or are coaches destroying Michigan? Make no mistake about it we are dead smack in the middle of 7-5 Hoke tenure. Can it change? Sure. Could it of changed with Hoke. Sure.

I was terribly pessimistic about our offense this off season. Then the game happened and I realized I was too optimistic. Yikes.

The sooner we as fans realize we’re a basketball school now and start fully supporting that program by actually selling out Crisler, the happier we all will be.

After all, one loss in basketball doesn’t mean nearly as much as in football.

It absolutely is the beginning of the end, you pull what he pulled the first couple years and you'd better deliver, well, he's not delivering and it's down to the one area we didn't think we'd have to worry about in the offense.  He's earned the shit he's getting and yeah, some of it is unfair and yeah his luck has been awful but he decided to be big, swinging dick and put ND back on the schedule and open a season on the road.  It's all earned and I hope he's liking his crow right now.

Well that RPO stuff was trash, but if you don’t have a tackle everything will be trash. I don’t see Patterson surviving a full season. Probably another 8-4 season. Most disappointed with the stupid penalties and mistakes.

Eh.   Too early for me to lose my shit. We lost the first game of the season. On the road. To a team ranked higher than us.

That first quarter I though our defense played well..our coverage looked tight.  Wimbush mange’s to drop some absolutely perfect dimes into spots I couldn’t even believe.  Felt like those first two td’s...it’s a game of inches and we need to make a play and it changes the complexion of everything.

We need to find some rhythm on offense and hopefully the next few games can give us that. Our current offensive scares no one.

Our coverage looked tight? What game were you watching? Lavery hill in particular was getting BURNED.

Our secondary was letting their guys beat them most of the game. Better quarterbacks than winbush wouldve thrown for 300+

Give Harbaugh some credit.  The kids are getting a yearly trip to Europe to get some culture and education.  They may not have a mindset of winning football games, but they are becoming well rounded individuals in this program !

I give Harbaugh until the end of 2019. If he still hasn't won the Big Ten he needs to be fired. What we're seeing is an upscale version of what we got under Hoke. We started off well the first two years, then the coaches and players buy into the hype/arrogance the fans and media feed them. The OSU game in 2016 was the last time I remember seeing any fire on the sideline from anyone. The Harbaugh regime seems to have died on the field that day.

We play with no passion, the play calling is garbage, we have a MAC level O-line again, and the defense gets gashed when it matters. Quite frankly if we go out this year and lose to Wiscy, MSU, PSU, and OSU, he should be fired at the end of this year. This program is going in the wrong direction. I have no clue who we'd get, but anything beats this. Because if all we're going to do is go 8-4 every year, It's worth a risk. And please for the love of god make it a college coach if it comes to that. No more NFL man ball garbage we've had shoved down our throat for 7 years.

Can't be shortsighted.  Kelly has been at Notre Dame for 8-9 years with much worse regular season records.  Got to believe in the long term.

He deserves to. He’s in year four and his offensive line looks like it could get beaten up a good high school football team.

Wisconsin, MSU and OSU all have to be licking their chops after what they saw last night.

September 2nd, 2018 at 10:47 AM ^

Yeah he’s going to take some heat on this one. Really had a chance to set the tone and instill some confidence but the same issues that plagued us last year are still glaring problems.

If last night’s game was more of a classic, exciting clash, then he gets some leeway but we were down 21-3. If not for an AT return for td, it could’ve been much worse. Time to move on but the margins for allowing the same mistakes is getting razor thin.

Cant really argue against them

I've personally always said 2018 and 2019 were his years where hed get it together. I wanted to give him some time as opposed to the people who expected championships year 1. After game 1 it looks like were not going to contend

I just want michigan fans to keep the Harbaugh criticism ON HERE. We dont need to pile on him with everyone else. It will hurt recruiting so dont go spouting off about it other places

I think this is more about leadership (players AND coaches) and less about talent. I wonder if a few players on the team need to step up. Sometimes I get the feeling the players think because they have a coach that went to the Superbowl, all they have to do is show up to practice and the rest is magic.

The media love to build people up and tear them down.  It's sorta pathetic, though, when a seven point loss to a soon-to-be top ten team that was given their third TD by shoddy officiating is enough for people to make a negative macro-judgment on the coach's ability to do his job.
