OT: The Open Rd 3
Anyone watching? Weather is nice there. Woods and Michelson both out on course, both missing makeable putts. The more majors I watch, the more confident I am that neither will win another major. The competition is too good. Rose just finished with a 64 to get within two of the lead. Leaders tee off at 11am est. I’m rooting for Kuchar or Fleetwood to win. It could be anybody... a lot of good players within 4 shots of lead. Who you got?
Obligatory upvote/dvote......
Speith with an eagle on one! Great viewing on a rainy Saturday.
I would love to see Kuch get a major but I don’t think it’d happening this weekend.
I know man he is so consistent, but just can’t seem to get it done.
Major tournament with Tiger making his first real move on the leaderboard in over a decade and three comments.
If anybody in MGoManagement needed proof for just how user unfriendly the new site is for posting on the side board here it is.
Could have been 10 under by now (through 14) very, very easily. Either I am in a surprising minority, thinking that golf is twenty times better to watch with Tiger contending, or this board is in a coma...
I like to play golf a little, like to watch golf hardly ever, but if tiger’s playing competitively, I am excited to watch. It’s real. I barely watched any golf from 2011 till now.
Mixed emotions here:
Its Tiger, its golf - not exactly MGoAnything, OT or not.
On the other hand, this site does blow at the moment.
What an exciting day of golf. Lots of movement. Spieth bouncing back after his poor ending to round 1. Tiger in the mix and looking comfortable.
Just tuned in to the Open about 15 minutes ago to see some really interesting and intense jockeying for the lead.
6-way tie at the top, including Spieth and Eldrick? That's about as good as it gets, especially looking at all the other names within a few strokes of the top!
Love him or hate him, having the tiger in contention makes this so much better
I missed today's round. Did Tiger still have the black supports on his neck? He claimed he slept funny and had a stiff neck on Thursday, but wore them again on Friday. Sounds like more than a stiff neck if you ask me.
Tiger !!!
Woods lovers calm down. He started way earlier then the leaders. He will be at least 6 or 7 back to start tomorrow. He is playing well, but that par putt he missed is typical Woods in the last 10 years.
At least 6 or 7? Highly unlikely at this point.
The short game is always good. The driving was very good, and the putting was very good. Even the misses were good, except the first putt on 16. Good reads, great pace. Even with luck going against him, he's in with a 66 that very easily could have been a 62.
Whether your ignorance is sincere or willful, it's just plain inaccurate to say, "there's no difference here to how he's been playing."
If people who love golf and know what they saw today are "Woods lovers," then I suppose that just makes you a "Woods _____."
It will be at least 6 or 7. Watch and see.
I stand corrected I was wrong. He is 4 back and realistically has no chance to win tomorrow.
so only 5 players have a chance tomorrow?
really?
I didn’t say that. I said Woods doesn’t have a chance. No majors in 10 years. Never has come from behind after 3 to win a major. First good round at a major in 5 years. Take your childhood emotion out of it.
You really are an insufferable ass of a tiger hater. Are you still trying to convince yourself that Tiger is terrible? You realize it’s likely that after this tournament he climbs into the top 50 in the World Golf Rankings?
Thanks for the inappropriate insult. It’s ok I forgive you. I don’t think he’s terrible, I think he’s a has been and he’s not going to win tomorrow. Have a good night.
You’re welcome. You deserved it. You constantly say tiger is a has been with your criteria of “he hasn’t won recently” and to “take emotion out of it”. Fine. For comparison, tony finau, currently 10th in fedex cup, has 17/20 (85%) cuts, 13 top 25s (65%), 6 top tens (30%) including a 2nd, no wins. Tiger hasn’t played as many events and is thus further down rankings, but has made 9/11 (81%) cuts, 7 top 25s (64%) and 3 top 10s (27%) including a 2nd. Very comparable. Also keep in mind, if he finishes top 5 tomorrow (very likely) he gets inside top 50 in the world in just 12 tournaments played and qualifies for firestone. He will likely finish top 25 in world and fedex cup before the Season is over.
My question is: what would be your requirement to no longer consider him a has been? You seem to have this label permanently affixed to him.
To answer your question.... if he wins a major I will no longer call him a has been. This is Tiger freakin Woods, he is the greatest golfer of our generation....if he’s not winning majors he’s a has been. I don’t root against him or for him. I just don’t think he is close to being one of the current great golfers (top 10 I guess) and the media acts like he is cause they want a story. Comparing him to Finau is fine, but it’s not the same... nobody cares about Finau. If everyone is gonna prop up woods and the media is gonna slobber over him he needs to win a major. Period end of my opinion on him lol.
What the hell kind of standard is that? So he could win 5 tournaments and win the fedex cup and you’d still call him ahas been if none of them were majors? I don’t know how describe that level of stupidity.
The standard is if he’s GREAT like your claiming he is and the media acts like he is, he would still be winning majors... if you can’t see that or you don’t agree that’s fine, it’s really not a hard concept... If Brady plays 3more years and goes 12-4 but can’t win a big playoff game is he still one of the current great qbs? I think not... people will say he needs to retire and he’s a has been (remember Brett Favre). I don’t think Woods sucks for the tenth time, sure he’s playing well, but he’s not top 10 and he’s never winning another major. The competition is too good. Maybe lighten up on the insults it’s really not nice and uncalled for.
Yeah he just doesn’t seem to be able to finish off rounds where he starts well. He needed a 63 or 64 to really have a shot.
2 under on the back 9, great save after a poor tee shot on 18, even after the wind picked up (which is links golf kryptonite). He finished well. I encourage you to note the average back 9 scores among the last 5 groups today. Very few of them will do as well as 2 under.
We get it you love Tiger. Cool man... to each his own. He’s just not elite anymore. The media hype has you going buggy lol.
You are a hater!
Lol. I’m not a fan of Woods, but I don’t hate him and he is the best of our generation.
But you are being a tad bit disingenuous by acting like he didn’t play well today or people need to calm down with their excitement. The guy shot a 66 which is one of the better rounds of the day. Name someone on the course who hasn’t missed a shot today? That’s not indicative of Tiger not having it anymore, more than it is the fact that he’s human. Speith is on 15 and unless he birdies out, chances are Woods will be less than 6 or 7 strokes off the pace.
Tiger's going to begin tomorrow 4-5 off the pace, tops. No one's getting to -11 today. The leaders are hitting the last four holes at -9, and holes 15-18 are just eating people this week.
He played well today. I never said he didn’t.
The guy had multiple iron shots that dropped within feet of the hole, a good string of birdies, hitting every fairway, overall very consistent. Yet all you can focus on is one missed par put? GTFO.
No... I’m focused on the fact that he’s never won a major from behind or in the last 10 years and the media over hypes him. He’s a has been. Yes he played good today. Take the emotion out of it.
looks like he will be 4 back, currently T-7
he's definitely in the mix
one heck of a leaderboard for tomorrow
The British Open
Good weather. BOOOOOOOOOO!
Three weeks after Tiger won his last major, they started steroid test for pro athletes....
Of course Tigers "injuries" started popping up causing him to be a "weaker golfer"
You have to go all the way back to the 2008 U.S. Open at Torrey Pines to find Woods's last major victory .He has missed more than 50% of the cuts since Pros were tested,he only missed a couple cuts 1996-2008
