Old.
But I hate change. So, whatev.
Thought it was just me. I feel so much better now.
I would wait until all of the bugs get worked out before I make up my mind.
Same. Anything new takes time to feel comfortable. When my work laptop updated from windows 7 to windows 10 automatically without me requesting the upgrade, I was pissed... within a month I loved it.
Bring back XP!!!
Do you have a guess as to ETA on having the "bugs" worked out? (I thought this was what BETA testing was supposed to do, but...)
Football season kickoff?
When the US hosts the World Cup?
Can we have the old site back while we wait?
Co-signed.
One positive though that's happened through the transition is I've gotten a chance to meet a lot of the lurkers on the site. People who havent posted much, if anything, for years, are now coming out in droves to voice their opinion on all these wonderful "improvements".
Did beta testing even happen?
Strange, I have been involved in BETA testing for a great many products over the years and most of them still had bugs when they were released. I think you are overestimating what any kind of testing can produce.
How many people could possibly have been involved in said BETA testing? A couple dozen? It is far more likely that the thousands of people that visit this site on a daily basis will find issues that those few people missed.
It's not just about bugs... Beta testers should have easily been able to report back on just how ridiculously bad the layout is.
"Voting is FUBAR"
"Login is FUBAR"
"Image posting system is something from the 90s"
"Significant rendering issues in some browsers"
"Nav sucks and there is WAY too much white space"
These are not arcane issues that slipped through small cracks in testing. The test group was too small, too diverse, or their reports were not heeded, I suspect.
Should have been "not diverse enough", which reminds me of one more"
"Can't edit comments"
I’ve only used the new site on my phone so far, so I’m not sure how it compares on the PC. But I preferred the old MGoBlog on my phone. Easy to see the board/diary posts, the front page, and create content.
On my phone I can't stand the site. On a PC the site is better in my opinion. I just look forward to the time an app is available again.
This is my opinion too (on computer it's better, on phone it's way worse). Unfortunately, I only read "news" sources on my phone so it doesn't help me that the site looks prettier. All i can think is about a post Brian wrote where he laughed at how out of touch some websites were by adding videos. Now Brian removes a phone app at a time when mobile traffic is growing very quickly. Close to 70% of all web hits are from a phone now. On mobile, sites are visited via app about 55% of the time but if you are a recurring visitor (more then 5 times a month) those numbers jump to over 90% using apps. Conversion rates are much much higher on app as well. App should be prioritized over the desktop site. Also, I laugh again when i see multiple podcasts that could/should be written articles. How is that different than making fun of sites for videos? Videos are better than audio only streams.
Anyway, I gave up on UMhoops because they didn't have an app and in just a week or two, i've downloaded multiple other sports apps and reduced my time here. It's petty, but the mobile experience is too annoying for me to deal with. I'll probably still come here for a long time, but it's already not my first M site (anyone have recommendations for good M sports apps - I've been reading fansided and land of ten a lot lately but they're only ok).
Anyway, get an app. Charge me for it if you must. Request an mgoblogger to build it and split the profits. Do something.
I don't think it'll ever happen. There was a fantastic app for the old site that went away supposedly because Brian said so.
If he won't make an app and won't allow others to, it won't happen.
Ive been busy lately and haven’t been able to get to a computer so I’ve really only been able to be on my phone here. It’s been a bit of a pain compared to the old site which was simple and straightforward.
Obviously it’s not enough to drive me away, but I do spend 95% of my time on this site on my phone. So it’s been a bit frustrating.
Yes I agree. Maybe it will grow on me
I’m still confused as to why the diary section is listed first. That should be on the bottom or just in a separate tab. I’m guessing 90% of users primarily read the board/front page.
Both sites are fine, but the new one will take a while to get used to. Oh well. Just make a new HD app and call it a day.
I kind of like that because I think it gives diaries more exposure they deserve. I think a better solution than the current setup though would be to have diaries be posted on the board when they are first posted, and then pinned as a diary.
Really? So you honestly prefer being shown content that was posted as recently as one week ago and as old as two months ago on every visit? And you like having to scroll past the old, static content to try and find the new stuff?
Not me.
I agree with RC - the diaries are almost always worth the read and should be highlighted. It's no different than the old site which had the diaries at the top. It's not a huge effort to scroll past them if you want. Maybe the 3.1 version could have a user preference that allows you to order the sections.
Like I said, I think the better way would be for them to get posted on the board first, then pinned as a diary. Then I'd be fine with it being elsewhere.
But for example, there was a ton of work put into the 2017 punting diary, and yet its got 5 comments. For the work that guy put in to create that, it should be getting more exposure. A topic about the App being gone that was clearly stated with a reason why in the MGoBlog 3.0 post gets 50+ comments because it's on the board that people check,
These are indeed "High Class Problems" IMO.
But so far, I liked the set up of the old version better. The Board is the adrenalin of this site IMO, and should be featured in conformance therewith.
Shouldn’t that tell you something? Not many people are interested in reading the diaries.
I can't tell you the last time I read a diary post.
I like the new site, But it bothers me how far down i have to scroll to get to the board. On the old site i could see it without scrolling at all. Now its 2.5 pages down. 1 full page just to see diaries.
Also, the fact that i have to upload picture/gifs to post is annoying.
Why don't you just click the link from the drop down menu at the top of the page?
I liked to be able to go to the website with 1 click, see if i was missing anything new at a glance. I might end up adding a favorite button for the board separately. Its just inconvinient.
I also don't like that the Joined date/points section is larger than most of the posts. The whole site just take a ton of space
I was hoping that the Search function would work better than the old site. Now, it doesn't seem to work at all.
the old search feature never worked for me but i saw somewhere posted that once the new site is fully indexed it should work. google takes a while to re-index the site.
old, I mostly just prefer the blue background though.
Would be nice to have a dark mode option.
I think the old site was much, much better. I don't want to bitch too much since the site is free and I've loved it for years. However, the loss of the app makes this a double whammy. Worse full site, and no app. I don't like it. But thanks for still making it free.
There are bugs to be worked out still and it will take time for all of us to get used to. User adaptability always takes some time. If you ask me now I would honestly say old but in the next month or by the season starts, I am sure I will like 3.0 just as much if not more.
Some users have been on this site for 10 years, it will take a long time to adapt to the new lay out before anyone could give a proper, long term answer.
You like the old site better? What a fresh take
Old by a wide margin. We will see if I get used to this site and change my mind. Right now the redesign seems pretty bad.
agreed
unless they address all the issues with the new I prefer the old
Old
But then again I'm old so probably not a breaking news story here
I've come to prefer the new site on PC. When it comes to mobile, though, I prefer 2.0 purely for the accompanying app.
old for the same reason
The layout of the comments/board is too muddled IMHO. The joined date and points at the bottom of each comment is way too prominent. If it was smaller and/or moved to under the avatar I think it would really help the flow of the conversation. Just feels a bit too broken up with things that, while needed, are disrupting in their current layout.
Agreed. I actually don't think this information needs to be displayed in-line at all. If anybody thinks this info is relevant they can click through to somebody's profile. It currently takes up more space than the average comment length, I'm guessing.
Maybe I'll get use to it... but way too much spacing for me. All I see is a lot of white spaces and scrolling needed in order to read.
spacing! I agree the issue is too much whitespace, too much scrolling. I am sure I will like it better over time but just too much space between everything. Right now I prefer old.
Agree, I had to Zoom out 4 times just to make the homepage readable.
I agree, liked the old much better, less cluttered and easier to navigate.
So far..old
1) miss the Application on my phone, much worse experience on mobile devices with the new
2) the stories are harder to view if you miss a day
3) Pro for the new: being able to hide a troll’s comments so as not to see them anymore
I’m indifferent I just don’t understand how it took a thousand years and basic things like “is it optimized for my mobile browser” and “is there an easy and intuitive way to add images to a comment” are not sorted out. Frankly don’t think they picked the right vendor but I’m withholding judgment until the summer is over and they’ve had a chance to iterate a few times and fix bugs.
