Rose Bowl Open Thread
The Granddaddy of them all! The 100th Rose Bowl. Number 4 Michigan State vs. Number 5 Stanford. Who are you guys taking in this game and why? I like Stanford so I wouldn't mind to see them win. I do think the perception of the Big Ten is somewhat important, but I also don't think the Big Ten being that great matters a whole lot. I'm cheering for neither team though. I am just hoping for a good quality game.
The line favors Stanford by 5.5 points. Michigan State has the best defense in the country. Stanford has one of the best ground and pound teams in the country.
F/+ Projection: Stanford 20, Michigan State 11

Stanford might need help getting to the locker room at halftime if they keep shooting themselves in the foot.

Perfect spot for MSU D to score..

is trending towards Sparty and is exactly the sort of game they will win.
I am a bit shocked.

Isn't it nice to see two well disciplined defenses play? One day I hope we have that again.

It's called "forward progress," Sparty defenders. You may have heard of it in peewee football.

Stanford has no interest in scoring a lot of points. Or in moving the ball at all from the looks of it.

Both teams have excellent punters.
Small things...

State can be lucky a lot but they're also something we're not...well coached.
January 1st, 2014 at 6:28 PM ^
Stanford doesn't have great athleticism at the offensive skill positions.

If MSU actually runs that end-around later, they're going to stick it in the end zone.

MSU students are representing their university so well when they chant "First down bitch!" in front of national tv cameras.

Wishing they were Jesse Pinkman.

Is it really a sparty no if they're in the rose bowl? It kinda loses it's luster for me.
January 1st, 2014 at 6:30 PM ^
It's fun to see that happen to someone besides Devin Gardner.

MSU is doing whatever they want in the passing game, that brutal screen notwithstanding.
January 1st, 2014 at 6:35 PM ^
Nice response by Sparty - they are resilient. Looked like a small push off by WR there.
January 1st, 2014 at 6:35 PM ^
Now all of a sudden Sparty has awesome receivers. Defensive TD aside, this game belongs to MSU. Since the opening drive Stanford has done next to nothing and their defense can't cover anyone.

My guess is MSU wins this game running away. Stanford has been thoroughly outclassed since their opening drive.

This is gonna be a good second half, folks.
January 1st, 2014 at 6:40 PM ^
I remember that was a weakness going into the season.
January 1st, 2014 at 6:45 PM ^
Nah the OL was not a weakness coming into 2013; it was in 2012 as they had a slew of injuries. They brought in a new coach from OSU to help the offense and he focuses on OL and TE. They had a ton of injuries to OL last year which is why their offense was a tire fire (as well as Maxwell not being a gamer) now all those guys came back healthy plus they have a ZERO star RS freshman I believe playing one of the tackles and an all american freshman (dont quote me on the award but something like that) at center and rotate 8 guys through the OL so that next year when they lose a few to graduation they are not starting from scratch. You know - thinking ahead....
