You should be negged for giving us bad news.

I just negged you just because it's been forever since I could do it, not because I disagreed with you, but feelsgoodman.jpg

MSU with as many All-Americans as OSU and Michigan combined. What is the world coming to?
December 11th, 2013 at 7:45 PM ^
to agree with the notion of downvoting Calif for suggesting a downvote to Blue Eyes for this shitty but fitting (shitting?) news
EDIT: In response to uniqenam, because I've forgotten how to hit the "reply" button apparently

Step 2: .............
Step 3: Profit

this wasn't the year Taylor Lewan wanted, but I've just loved watching him in a Michigan uniform this year. Go forth and find donkeys on Sunday, #77.

Some of the representation across both teams by conference, if anyone is interested:
ACC - 13
SEC - 10
Pac-12 - 10
Big Ten - 6
The rest is split between the MWC, the MAC, the Big 12 and the AAC, it seems.

Awesome career for a historic LT. Hopefully he finishes strong and can lock his status as a top 10 pick.

Wow, no Clowney. Not surprising, but I can't remember so much preseason hype for a defensive player that went nowhere.
December 12th, 2013 at 10:14 AM ^
Clowney hasn't gotten worse, but from what I heard, the rest of SC's D-line did (or at least was seen as less of a threat), so OCs just optioned Clowney off. The rest of the DL wasn't good enough to punish them for it.
It's basically the same as Lewan. Few teams have a WDE that can beat Lewan, and it'd be madness to plan around winning that one-on-one battle anyway. The double A-gap blitz was the go-to weapon against Michigan's O-line because it took the tackles out of the game. Why go up against the 1st-round draft pick OT when there are underclassmen along the interior to pick on? "Mismatch" is a synonym for "bullying", really.
This is kind of why I'm leery of these awards. The best players are often playmakers, but if the disparity is large enough, the role shifts from making plays to drawing so much attention that everyone else gets better. On the flip side, I have no idea how good Ohio State's kicker is this year because they never needed him.
December 11th, 2013 at 8:30 PM ^
even remotely considered if he does not go nuts in the SEC title game? Also, there should be a "Players Who Will Actually Be Good in the NFL" list.
December 11th, 2013 at 8:55 PM ^
Maybe not, but conference championship games are usually against tough opponents, not cupcakes. At worst it may pad his cumulative stats vs. guys that didn't play in CCGs.
December 11th, 2013 at 9:02 PM ^
like I was bashing Mason...in fact, the opposite and part of why I don't like lists like this. Mason played in the SEC, and rushed for over a hundred (not a great barometer in college football anymore, but still) against LSU, Alabama, and Mizzou, to name a few. Now, Andre Williams, on the other hand (I know, I know, he went for over 2k), got 200 on 4-8 Wake Forest, 260 on 3-8 Army, 295 on 2-10 New Mexico State, 340 on 3-9 NC State...huge numbers, and you play who you play. But that's still 1100 yards in 4 games against teams that went 12-35.
December 11th, 2013 at 10:33 PM ^
I'm surprised he got it over Melvin Gordon. I mean Gordon had almost 1500 yards (over 8 a carry) and didn't even get the most touches on his own team.

Glad to see no Clowney because if he was on the list, the "hit" would be sprawled out.

Taylor did not get first team simply because of how horrible the OL unit was and the fact our offense could not run the ball a lick.
But to say he was worse than last year - not even close to the truth. He was at minimum the same level, and i believe moderately better. I believe he is better than Jake Long.
Now, Ryan Shazier is one of the most overhyped, overrated buckeye LB i have seen in quite some time. I just don't get this. The kid has some wheels, but he commonly overpursues, puts himself out of position, and just IMO is not a strong 'wrap up' guy. Matter of fact, the Buckeye defense as a whole was pretty bad this year IMO.
As much as a cant stand sparty, i really like Max. Think he is a very, very good LB. Worlds better than Shazier.

As much as I hate the hype a lot of Ohio players have gotten (Roby in particular) Shazier was an absoulte monster down the stretch this year. He was in on a majority of the plays against us, and had over 60 tackles in the last 4 games of the season and something like 13 tackles for loss. The guy is a stud, and I actually hope the Lions draft him this April.

Walter Camp last year (1st)
USA Today this year (2nd)
Maybe Walter Camp AA again this year (announced tomorrow night)
For all the crap Lewan got from this year's MSU game, I don't recall many, if any, penalties this season from him. Compared to 2010, when he was a walking personal foul machine, Hoke and staff did develop this guy into a winner.

More importantly, what team did Dr. Hamlet III make?

I think he made "Team Breakfast."

Jameis was obvious. Glad Jordan Lynch got in there too.
Not that AJ had a bad season statistically, but FSU wouldn't be 13-0 without Jameis and UNI would be a lot worse without JL. Alabama has been able to find guys who can win at QB before AJ.
p.s. Katherine Webb (McCarron's incredibly hot GF) should have made at least one AA squad! Where's the love?
December 11th, 2013 at 9:08 PM ^
I'm glad he came back, but I don't think he's as amazing as people assume. I see him as a poorer man's version of Big Jake Long. Also, with the sexual assualt of the girl at FSU, I keep reading that shit about Gibbons and Long and it somehow bothers me. I hope none of it's true.
Edit: I'm have no idea of the legitamacy of any of this.

He really shouldn't be remembered as the guy who had a goat of a senior season because of the rest of the OL's performance, but he should be remembered as the guy who chose to stay. He should be a constant reminder to us all that Michigan is still all about The Team, The Team, The Team... Really hope he's able to find solid success either on the field or off the field outside of Michigan.

Even though Lewan didn't have a great year in terms of accomplishment or record, he still dominated everyone he went against. I do not see how he is not a 1st teamer. He's arguably the best tackle in the NCAA and was (besides Schofield at times) was the lone shining light on our dismal OLine. IMO, he was robbed. Gonna miss watching the nastiness he brought on almost every play. The bowl can't come soon enough.
