...there is nothing quite like a wonderful tasting obscure microbrew, you gotta try it!
March 21st, 2013 at 12:45 PM ^
At this point any "micro brew" that is legitimately obscure most assuredly does NOT come in racks.

I am starting to think that Valpo and Michigan State should have had the court professionally surveyed before the game in the event they had trouble locating the basket. Neither team is sniffing 30% shooting right now.

I think we'll see a lot of this today in most of the games. Pretty typical for an 18-22 year old to be a little nervous and tight in the first round of the NCAAs... Seems like this is the case in the first round every year; especially in the first half.
March 21st, 2013 at 12:36 PM ^
Charles Barkley, I would be all-in for Valpo. Now I'm conflicted about this. I might need to root harder for the other 6 B1G schools and root against Sparty.
March 21st, 2013 at 12:43 PM ^
Anyone else have no idea what this is referencing?
March 21st, 2013 at 12:45 PM ^
He was saying the same thing that other fools have said the past few days that the B1G is overrated.
March 21st, 2013 at 12:36 PM ^
wow, msu looks surprisingly bad...i have mixed feelings about that since i do want the big to do well this year in the tourney

Cox Communications in Phoenix is having issues... CBS HD is offline... /fantastic
March 21st, 2013 at 12:41 PM ^
Bah CBS, how am I supposed to watch basketball during lecture if the screen won't get past the loading circle spinning around?
EDIT: Crisis averted, it works in Chrome.
March 21st, 2013 at 12:45 PM ^
Agreed. How can they be surprised by the traffic? Seems they screw it up every year, but it's particularly bad now.
March 21st, 2013 at 12:38 PM ^
State turning it on a little bit here. 8-0 run
March 21st, 2013 at 12:40 PM ^
yeah, gary harris started that with a nice open three hit in rhythm. while i don't want to believe it, he is really good
March 21st, 2013 at 12:46 PM ^
I am hoping both him and Payne go pro after this year, to make Michigan's sweep of them easier next year.
March 21st, 2013 at 12:40 PM ^
Verne is drunk!
March 21st, 2013 at 12:43 PM ^
just senile
March 21st, 2013 at 12:49 PM ^
No doubt; could we get a pair of announcers more out of touch and geriatric? "Harris getting his puppies organized..." Really?
BTW CBS stream working famously in Montana.
March 21st, 2013 at 12:48 PM ^
"What's the best show on TruTV the other 51 weeks?" - John Gasaway on ESPN chat. Really, what is good on that station. I don't get it on my cable plan.

World's Dumbest can be pretty funny, though you put yourself at the risk of hearing Tonya Harding speak.
March 21st, 2013 at 12:48 PM ^
Valpo looks like us in the first game against msu. Bad.
March 21st, 2013 at 12:52 PM ^
I'm shocked! SHOCKED! that MSU is going to hammer Valpo. The Big 10 is going to have a really nice first round. We'll see after that, but I think the conference is unbeaten through tomorrow night.

Valpo getting blowed out
March 21st, 2013 at 12:54 PM ^
March 21st, 2013 at 12:54 PM ^
Much as I love me some Sparty schadenfreude, I do hope this is just the start of the B1G beating the piss out of everybody.
Oddly, I rarely feel that way when it comes to football...
March 21st, 2013 at 12:56 PM ^
agreed.
man, valpo cannot buy a made basket.
March 21st, 2013 at 12:57 PM ^
To Butler and Bucknell!
March 21st, 2013 at 12:59 PM ^
Holy white people, batman
March 21st, 2013 at 12:58 PM ^
Yikes. The Crusaders are 4-22 and 1-10 from downtown. That makes for an effective FG% of 20.5%. At that rate, they could still potentially break 30 points before the game ends. Those six TOs hurt quite a bit right now, I would say.
EDIT: Make that 7 TOs, but the two 3-pointers up the Crusaders' effective FG% to 31.3%.
March 21st, 2013 at 12:58 PM ^
So maybe the Big Ten really is the best conference in the country...
Valpo is supposed to be a decent team; they are getting manhandled by MSU.
Correct me if I am wrong but you get 7 timeouts for the whole game correct? Not that I blame him, but the Valpo coach is burning through those timeouts in the first half.
7 seemed like a lot but the cnnsi.com gamecast had 7 little boxes next to timeout.
Someone needs to tell him that timeouts aren't like cell phone minutes! They don't carry over!
-Valenti
Valparaiso is supposed to be a decent team and they're getting completely outclassed right now.
anyone ever hit the boss button on the live stream and actually read the various messages in the inbox? I just did for the first time out of curiosity and they are rather amusing and comical. Everyone loves this time of year.
Soon as I've got everyone awake and stuff we're going to start the liveblog. Probably 4-ish. Who wants to moderate (any part of the day?) Email me.
Also the sponsor (Draft Street) is hosting another free game if anyone wants to jump in and draft early: http://www.draftstreet.com/l/cbb_gen.aspx?AID=729&pid=163&subid=March+C…
I can't help but be more than a little bit jealous of MSU's defense right now. Michigan would have probably allowed 30+ to Valpo in that first half and we'd have an uncomfortable second half coming up.
Novak's grittiness meant so much more than we even imagined to Michigan.
I think Stu was an underrated defender as well.
What sucks is we know they can play that level of defense...They played against this very Sparty team. They don't do it as fluid and as consistent though. To make a run in this Tourney they'll need to buckle down like they did in the aforementioned game.
Agreed. Unfortunately nothing I have seen suggests they can play defense with the needed intensity for more than fits and spurts. They are capable of having good defensive games, are they capable of doing it six games in a row?
Bucknell-Butler is 21-14 at halftime. And that is the MORE interesting game.
MSU is putting on a clinic.
Nix is scoring but he looks so f--king unathletic out there. Watching him run is painful.
I don't think what he does can be called running.
Effective is effective. Not saying Nix is anywhere near their level, but the annals of sports history are filled with guys who were amongst the best ever and didn't look good doing it. You wouldn't teach Arnold Palmer's swing or putting stroke to anybody; Rick Barry shot free throws underhanded. Terry Bradshaw threw wounded ducks for completions.
Sometimes you just have to take the high road. Nix's football-related tweets were classless, but I'd take his interior presence on Michigan's team right about now.
Please tell me you didn't just put Nix in the same sentence with Arnie Palmer, Rick Barry, and Terry Bradshaw. I get your point, but please never, ever do that again.
