On espn botttom line this morning, the logo used for tOsu was the Ohio bobcats logo. Must be an Alumni doing the editing.

Why do you assume it was a male?

Alumnus is male singular. Alumna is female singular. Alumnae is plural female only. Alumni is plural male only, or mixed male and female plural.
(Finally! After all of these years, the 5 semesters of Latin I took for my Classic Arch degree (LSA '94) have paid off.)
February 5th, 2013 at 10:15 AM ^
I guess more people should quite bragging about their UofM degree until they figure some stuff out, and more importantly take some Latin/classics courses during their academic careers.
February 5th, 2013 at 10:28 AM ^
They could take latin. Or they could skip it because its possibly the worst course known to alumnus (and alumnae).

Is this commit number 23 or 24 for them? I need someone to explain to me how they are able to have more than 22. I thought they were on scholarship reductions.

i have the same question at the beginning of the season it was said they only had 16 schollies available but now with potentially hitting 26 how did they manage that or is urban doing what he did at florida and oversign

If Michigan and OSU end up in the same division that game is going to decide the division every freakin year until Urban leaves in 3-4 years. This make me wonder, do OSU fans believe he is a lifer? Or will the be happy if they get 5 seasons out of him? I'll be surprised if he goes longer than that.
February 5th, 2013 at 8:21 AM ^
Most if not all think he'll retire at Ohio in no less than 10 years from now.
HOWEVA, if he got them a national championship or 2...they wouldn't give a shit if he left 4-5 years from now. It would be Woody, Tress, Urb.
You'd see a bunch of country, ugly, Justin Boren-esqe kids popping up all over the state named "Urban." A country kid named urban, go figure.

I believe he will finish out his 7 year contract, but isn't a lifer. Even though the Midwest has less talent, Ohio State and Michigan are the only game in town for the forseeable future and he will always be able to pull the players he needs to run his offense.
February 5th, 2013 at 8:44 AM ^
is in the Midwest or just won't/can't compete with UM/OSU despite their BCS appearance?
February 5th, 2013 at 9:25 AM ^
But....but....but....we don't care about ND. Nor do we care about their recruiting. Do we?
/s
February 5th, 2013 at 9:58 AM ^
Look at ND's recruiting class. Can they pull from the Midwest because they are located there? Sure. But only 6 of their current 23 recruits are from the Midwest. As opposed to 12 of 24 for Ohio and 22(!) of 27 for Michigan.
I'm not saying we shouldn't worry about their recruiting... we absolutely should, because clearly they are a national draw. Just saying that they don't take as many kids out of the Midwest as you might think.

We can only hope there's still a battle for Webb.
February 5th, 2013 at 11:10 AM ^
as we seem to want to recruit the midwest heavily. If the other two power programs focus elsewhere, it helps us get our pick of the best local talent, and if we can pull a high level out of the area recruit here and there, it's a winning formula. With the other schools in the mix, it gets harder to pull the talent.
February 5th, 2013 at 10:20 AM ^
/s -- did you not see this? I was kidding.
Lighten up, Francis. I was joking, referencing the Recruiting post yesterday from Ace and all the inevitable comments about why we're tracking them.
February 5th, 2013 at 9:59 AM ^
Opposing fans like to throw stuff around about Urban but the fact is he's a young man in this profession. He's only 48 yrs old. As a point of reference, Nick Saban is 61. Les Miles is 59.
The fact is that Urban is exactly where he wants to be, in his home state at Ohio State where he started his coaching career. He's already making $4 million/yr+, he has his health under control, finished 12-0 w/a win over Michigan in his first year and is about to wrap up his second top 5 recruiting class.
The question is not how long to Ohio State fans think he's going to stay. The question is how long before the rest of the B1G just surrenders to him.
February 5th, 2013 at 10:25 AM ^
Or how long before he regresses to his old ways and decides that he's had enough and retires again.
February 5th, 2013 at 10:30 AM ^
Or allegedly cheats on his wife with an student and then retires for alleged health reasons.
February 5th, 2013 at 10:54 AM ^
Once he gets all stressed out for not beating Michigan in 4 years! I think there is a good chance he just walks away again!

Interesting that he pulled him away from the Ducks, Chip Kelly really did pick just about the worst time to leave the program as far as this recruiting cycle is concerned.
February 5th, 2013 at 9:12 AM ^
It's almost like Chip Kelly didn't care anymore about his recruits...
To me that is one of the most frustrating thing about college sports- coaches that make poor decisions (or personal gain decisions) screw over the school and not themeselves. Coaches that leave can leave for NFL leave a team in scrambles, coaches that leaves before issues surface/get punished (cough ***Calipari*** cough) have nothing happen to them and the schools they leave suffer through years of punishment/turmoil.
I know it will never happen because of money- but I'd love it if there were restrictions on when you can start/leave jobs- I guess you can never stop jumps to the NFL/NBA- but jumping to another NCAA school should not happen at times where it can disrupt a program so much. Coaches have it so easy- and they can screw over players which I think is unfair. At least that does not appear to be an issue at UM- so I suppose we can only gain from this situation, but overall I think it is bad for college sports
February 5th, 2013 at 10:09 AM ^
First, coaches are going to leave when jobs are open. That part isn't up to them. It's nearly always going to be around the same time of year. Second, it seems far worse to stay just past NSD. I'd much rather see a school scrambling to replace or hold on to recruits than the alternative; recruits finding out the coach they committed to is leaving just after it's too late to go elsewhere.
February 5th, 2013 at 11:36 AM ^
I agree Chip had to leave when the job was open and that he had to look out for his own interests and I don;t think it reflects poorly on his character. I am just observing that he left right at a time when the sharks are circling and motivated and that put Oregon a bit behind the curve. They'll probably be just fine in the long run, but for this year there's definitely some interesting second order effects.
February 5th, 2013 at 10:31 AM ^
This is the second year in a row that St. Urbs will benefit from the misfortune of another program re: recruiting. The 2012 class was bolstered by several top notch players who were committed to Penn State untill...well, yeah. While the 2013 class has already benefited by the departure of Chip Kelly from Oregon and I wouldn't be surprised if OSU got another guy to flip from the Ducks to the Bucks, seeing as how their offensive styles are similar.
Just call him The Vulture...
February 5th, 2013 at 11:40 AM ^
AFAIK he only went after Wilson and the Robinson twins. I don't think he'll get them so he's probably done with those flips. Still can't fault him for asking a kid if he's interested in OSU when there's been a coaching change. If Michigan's class wasn't full, we'd be wanting Brady to do the same thing.
February 5th, 2013 at 9:10 AM ^
Well I guess it beats Trey Johnson's "The Ohio State."
February 5th, 2013 at 9:44 AM ^
The limit is not on the 25 per class. The limit is on the 85 total. In this case OSU is limited to 82 total.
February 5th, 2013 at 10:03 AM ^
Ask Florida what they think about Urban and his long term good for the program. Check back in a few years to see if the Circle of Trust is running the show.
