ND Press Conference - Thoughts?

Submitted by TheGhostofYost on

I realize there is a thread about the general topic below, but I'm very curious about the responses to the press conference in particular.  For me, I find the lack of notification to authorities very puzzling.  Did your opinion shift after listening to Swarbick?

Let's say its true; as a media contact at ND, don't I contact the family of the deceased to make sure it's ok that her name is put in the media.

If you were the family wouldnt you expect this before they used her name and pictures on television?

And if you are the media, wouldn't a quote from her father, mother, family member whatever be something you want to get.  Something how Te'o helped her to be strong throughout her battle?  How he was a positive influence in her life?  Especially since this was not a short lived story.

the story only broke at 4:15 PM or so ........ NOT EVEN FOUR HOURS later, here's the press conference after ND had already released a statement as well.

They must be pretty darn confident in the story, especially considering this is a situation where noone would really fault them if they said "this involves Monte, not us, we have no comment."

Don't be fools. Go read the evidence on Deadspin, they present it very well. If you think that Teo was an unwilling vicitim you are ignorant. ND is just in a very desperate manner to support their star. But, the truth is painfully obvious when you consider all the evidence...come on people.

A receipt for the white roses he sent her after the Michigan game & a delivery confirmation including what address they were delivered to.

That presser said a whole lot about nothing. This has all the makings of a publicity stunt and all these "investigations" are just a way of covering their ass.

So to quickly look back: Declan Sullivan actually dies and ND, Kelly and to a certain extent ESPN show no remorse and aren't forth coming with truth or details. Manti T'eo's fake girlfriend dies and it is exploited and used as propaganda up to and passed the NC game. To hell with Notre Dame.

you don't want to include the cover up of the girl that was raped by an ND football player, committed suicide when she saw that the ND administration did not take her seriously / did not want to find out the truth, and then ND acted like the girl completely fabricated the entire story?

I think the girl is a little different in the sense that she may have had some mental issues. It should have been looked in to more but I don't think it all happened like she said it did. This is coming from girls I know at ND and St Mary's that had met her. And I don't think Shembo would do that bc I know him.

ND should have squashed the story immediately. Instead they waited over a month to announce it. ND got the publicity that they wanted and now they wanna look like a stand up university.

Its not really NDs story to announce.  The Te'os had the information they needed and for some reason didn't announce it.

Not sure why everyone is ripping on ND, there was nothing illegal about what happened, there was no NCAA violations that occurred.  There was no drugs, alchohol or violence involved.  It was a kid who messed up in his personal life.

Yeah bc college football coaches have little control of their programs. Look at Brian Kelly's past. He's a controversial coach who has some horrible stuff attached to him. Suicides, homicides, infidelity, cover ups... I have buddies that played for him at GVSU - according to them he will do absolutely anything to reach the top. World class Ahole with no moral compass whatsoever. I know I'm a biased Mich fan but this info is from good friends. Kelly is and always has been a bad dude. Sorry.

because we don't believe Swarbrick is telling the truth. We could be wrong, but he is asking us to swallow an implausible story bolstered by a super secret investigation. Frankly, he has little credibility with me after seeing him handle the Declan Sullivan tragedy.

This is intellectual dishonesty.  If you can't see it, well allow me to retort.  You have a Heisman campaign, national media sympathy in a Cinderella season on one hand and a completely disingenuous presser where the AD gets all misty over his star LB getting the wool pulled over his eyes all set against a backdrop of rape-suicide and negligent homicide that the school ignored and covered up.  Your right, there aren't any NCAA violations here, just basic human dignity violations.  Carry on.

This all happened before ND was a NCG contender and long before Te'o was on anyones Heisman lists.  But don't let your Maize & Blue lenses fog your judgement.

As for negligent homicide, read said links posted previously.

As for the rape-suicide, the polive investigated the incident and dismissed it when they pulled the supposed incriminating txt messages and found nothing.  The truth being, there was no rape to investigate.

As I said before and got neg'd for it on the "T'eo is a class act" threads.  The players on the team do not like Manti.  I know this from speaking to someone on the team.  They think he is full of himself.  "Douchebag" was the term that was used.  But hey, I'm random internet guy, its cool.

There's a report from a Boston sports writer stating that some of his teammates began to suspect something was up in September.  When asked if he was a good actor, he stated very good.

How does someone not go visit their girlfriend after she is in a car accident and is diagnosed with cancer?  They have not even come close to providing an explanation for that.  Or as bomani jones said how do you not remember if your GF died thew same day as your grandmother?

You're so right. Among the must f-ed up thing about Teo's "love story" is the degree to which people hailed him for playing in a football game rather than attend the funeral of his girlfriend who just died of leukemia. Most backward-ass "values" I've seen in a long time.
