The hockey team has drove me to throw the Coke Zero aside and start drinking. Hopefully TCU beats them down and I can have something to laugh at.

This again? Why do the announcers have to mention several times a game that MSU's losses have been so close? They're not the first team college football team in history to lose close games.
December 29th, 2012 at 10:37 PM ^
I thought seeing all their losses again was funny
December 29th, 2012 at 10:40 PM ^
... if you removed the meaningless prattle and misleading statistics out of play by play commentary you would be left with silence.

Not really. I've watched most of MSU's games this year and the announcers always make some shit up when they're bored. Like how proud Sparty is when they get a 2 star recruit that chose them over Michigan. Or when their players rack up several personal fouls and the announcers say Dantonio won't be happy with that kind of play because he's the "Dean of discipline."
Heh.
December 29th, 2012 at 10:40 PM ^
they are trying to keep viewers glued to the late night Chicken Wing Bowl between 2 teams that dont have 1 full offense between them.
December 29th, 2012 at 10:37 PM ^
Maxwell just looks awkward and unathletic back there.

TCU's DLine is going to eat Sparty's lunch if they keep finding themselves in obvious passing downs.

...the vicious punting battle that everyone was hoping for.
December 29th, 2012 at 10:38 PM ^
I was doing some Sargin rankings reading and their margin of victory based ranking is lower than their pure wins and losses score. This seems to make no sense given their season.
December 29th, 2012 at 10:40 PM ^
Hahaha, William Gholston with the hesitation offside, double take, and then follow through jog to the QB to pretend he did that intentionally.
December 29th, 2012 at 10:43 PM ^
I am ecstatic that this game is being inflicted on the American public at 10:30 pm on a Saturday night. This is the rock fight everyone dreamt of when this game was announced.
December 29th, 2012 at 10:43 PM ^
Only a sparty pass interference saves another 3 & out
December 29th, 2012 at 10:43 PM ^
Was that Gholston that the TCU lineman just owned?
December 29th, 2012 at 10:43 PM ^
I heard Dantonio on the radio, mentioned the close losses and that they were almost a 10-win team this year (then backed off, said 'our record is our record', related coachspeak). I love that this is his approach. That kind of thinking has surely leaked into his team (and the Sparty fanbase).
No one seems to mention that they won 3 games by a combined 11 points. One of those in OT, and another against Indiana. And the Eastern game was much closer than the score indicated. Granted they won these games and should get credit for them. Just as they should take the blame for the losses. They were as close to 4-8 as they were to 8-4.
December 29th, 2012 at 10:45 PM ^
Close losses to mediocre teams is no better than blowout losses to great teams.
December 29th, 2012 at 10:51 PM ^
coaching. Breeds toughness.

Unfortunately Michigan was within a play of losing to this embarrassment of an offensive team at home, and add in the Northwestern game and the same could be said about Michigan being just as close to 6-6.
The offenses overall in the Big Ten were just not very impressive so it is hard to say if the defensive performances were all that either. The chicken or the egg concept.

ND turnoverfest and Denard injury in NE disclaimers apply. Ohio game was winnable in Columbus. But that's a fan talking, and even I wouldn't make a serious argument that Michigan was 3 games better than our actual record.
Hoke - unlike Dantonio - is not running around telling people Michigan was almost an 11-win team, is the point.
December 30th, 2012 at 3:10 AM ^
*shrug*
I think that's just football. Look at the Lions, the same could be said. Some lucky bounces make them a 10-win (LUCKY) team and some bad ones make them 4-12. Just how the game goes. All teams at all levels are exposed to good and bad breaks, surprise recruits, bust recruits, surprise draft picks, etc etc etc.

Tom still gets mentioned as causing havoc in the backfields all year.....only thing that I can think is that they are watching practices because he seems to have had one good game in the last two years against Georgia in the bowl game last year.

Strange to see All American Gholston on the sideline when TCU is in the red zone. I have to presume it was because Dantonio did not want to hurt the Horned Frogs this early by unleashing the beast in such a crucial situation.
December 29th, 2012 at 10:49 PM ^
Sparty D looks horrible so far. Blown coverage that only a horrible pass kept from being a TD, and then they just looked confused on that last drive.

Posts like this are just silly. You see a thread about MSU and take the time out of your night to open it and make a post acknowledging that you do not, in fact, care. Bravo. The power of denial is strong in this one.

Look - the B1G this year was full of lame offenses with marginal QB play. The raankings the announcers refer to do not account for the strength of opponents offense
December 29th, 2012 at 10:56 PM ^
At the same time, their offense is so horrible that the D is constantly on the field, yet still has those numbers.
December 29th, 2012 at 11:04 PM ^
MSU's offense actually isn't all that bad from a time-of-possession standpoint. All those Bell runs eat up a lot of clock. They're just very, very bad in the redzone - they attempted 31 (!) field goals this year.
December 30th, 2012 at 3:13 AM ^
Ya.... I'm still gonna go ahead and say their offense is putrid. I'll give you ToP but take everything else. They're horrid.
December 29th, 2012 at 10:52 PM ^
Being that the BW3 bowl is the replacement to the Insight Bowl name, will they still play for that beautiful Sammy The Sperm Trophy?

So many drinking games could be played watching this game.
Take a shot every time MSU's close losses are mentioned, every time that clip of Le'veon Bell hurdling that Boise State player is shown and every time ESPN shows that Lexus December to remember commercial.
December 29th, 2012 at 10:56 PM ^
Bell sure gets stuffed on a lot of 3rd/4th and shorts
