Laquon Treadwell eliminates Michigan
Down to Ole Miss, Oklahoma & Oklahoma State. Not unexpected but still disappointing he didn't make it to Michigan for an official visit for a final shot to change his mind.

I'm obviously excited about the future - having a lockdown OL will make up for a lot of things - but what we have right now is a far cry from having the likes of Edwards, Manningham, Arrington, Avant, and Breaston on (or near) the same roster...
December 16th, 2012 at 7:01 PM ^
"lockdown OL"? I don't think I've ever seen "lockdown" used to describe an OL before.
December 16th, 2012 at 11:46 PM ^
Me neither, actually.
December 17th, 2012 at 10:07 AM ^
I think it is similar to a spread option defense.

This is naive. If you accept that recruiting rankings matter, it has been years since Michigan got a kid that was ranked within the top 20ish at the position of wide receiver. JeRon Stokes and Jeremy Gallon (barely) fit that bill a few years ago and they were undersized for our current needs. We've had no problem getting commits rated within the top 5 or 10 at their position at every position except for WR and RB, although Derrick Green may change that for RB. As of next year, we will be relying on having Darboh or Chesson play above their rankings. And those gentlemen were rated higher than our current crop of commits.
However, a great QB can certainly get the job done with serviceable WRs and a strong line - we see this in the NFL often. The NFL's top receivers rarely seem to be playing in the Super Bowl.
December 16th, 2012 at 8:47 PM ^
Justice Hayes - '11 (#3 APB, ~100 national) would count as a top RB.
December 17th, 2012 at 7:57 AM ^
Was in the Rivals 250, the 30th best receiver, and had a 4 star ranking. I grant you that he doesn't have Treadwell's hype and wasn't considered an "elite" talent, but eveyrone one here with the mentality that we'll have to "make do" with Darboh for the next few seasons seem to be underselling the kid a bit. He's a good football player.
Chesson, granted, looks to be more of a project and may or may not see significant playing time over his career, but I don't understand all the pessimism over Darboh's future.

Maybe he just decided he didn't like Michigan. That's not a crime, you know.
December 16th, 2012 at 4:08 PM ^
yes it is
December 16th, 2012 at 6:35 PM ^
but lets you take her out on 9 dates..its not a crime but she definatly played your ass..unless you gave you a pity lay or something.
December 16th, 2012 at 7:03 PM ^
Since all of his visits were unofficial, wouldn't that be the equivalent of all of the dates being "dutch"? Not sure that counts as being "played".

I guess were stuck in the friend zone lol

Dear God, I don't even want to know what a maize taint is or how you got it on your glasses...
December 16th, 2012 at 3:52 PM ^
Not going to say good luck to him, because that's for pussies. He's absolutely full of himself and I hope he flames out in football but graduates from one of those fine academic institutions.
December 16th, 2012 at 4:03 PM ^
By the way, the historic programs was just a reference to Michigan and Oklahoma. Ole miss and Oklahoma state both are we're lacking in comparison in that department.

Go to Ole Miss, so we will never hear about you ever again.
December 16th, 2012 at 7:39 PM ^
As mean as this is it's actually so true. I can't tell you the last time I saw an Ole Miss game... it has to have been years. Seriously.
December 16th, 2012 at 3:52 PM ^
Not that I really care. Not on Michigan's roster, so pretty much irrelevant.
The bigger lesson is that players that want to come to Michigan will commit. All the rest are searching for a reason to be somewhere else.

Just a joke. When someone posts a funny picture, it doesn't actually mean they believe the context is absolutely true all the time.
I don't actually believe this cat is Ron Swanson.

WilliSC48, It's not that he chose another school over Michigan. It's that he, and several others, have Ole Miss in their final 3-6. What could possibly draw them to such a place? Their reputation as a fine academic institution? Their reputation for having a winning tradition? Their reputation for putting WR's into the NFL?
December 17th, 2012 at 4:50 AM ^
Reputation as one of the most fun schools with very attractice women in a fairly nice town with nice weather and possibly one of the best football gameday traditions with tailgating in the grove and a team that plays in the best conference in CFB with what is looking like an up-and-coming coach.
December 17th, 2012 at 9:14 AM ^
...so you've given this some thought?
December 17th, 2012 at 12:23 PM ^
and add "good football teams" to maybe half of them?
I mean Georgia ranks as a top 5-6 party school from sources as diverse as Princeton Review to Playboy. Are the women really any better looking in Mississippi than Georgia? I only hear good things about Athens, and Georgia's (as well as schools like Bama and such) have great or greater football gameday traditions. And players don't really get to tailgate, so I'm not sure how that would be an attraction.
And with all that you get top ranked football programs, as well as schools that came out of the 19th century at least a little faster than Ole Miss.
If he was saying he like LSU, Georgia, Bama, Florida, etc. with Michigan, Oklahoma, heck even Okie St. which has been good for a few years and runs a really receiver friendly offense, most people would go "Michigan is better, but ok, I understand." I'm not sure they're not more comparable to saying "boy, Arizona State looks like the place for me."
December 16th, 2012 at 3:55 PM ^
It wasn't a good sign when he kept talking about visiting this season then kept cancelling.
WRs are the drama queens of recruiting, so Laquon fits the bill.
December 16th, 2012 at 3:56 PM ^
FWIW he tweeted earlier today that he indeed is officially visiting Michigan. I know its twitter but just sayin why would he say that if he wasnt
December 16th, 2012 at 3:56 PM ^
Oh well...until this program under Hoke shows it on the field I wouldn't get to excited about Blue Chip WR's....just the way it is in this generation. Kids want to see results.

No 1000 bottle of champagne...Green and McQuay will still be awesome.
December 16th, 2012 at 3:59 PM ^
Really don't understand this. Oklahoma State? Where Mike Gundy is about to be exposed as a mediocre coach who does a great job picking assistants and coordinators before they end up leaving for HC jobs? They are the Wisconsin of the Big12. Oklahoma? (Or should I say choklahoma?) Where Big Game Bob just cannot win any big game. Always inexplicably high expectations for no reason over there. I see that program going no where but south in the next few years. And OLE MISS!?!? Sure they looked a lot better in SEC play, BUT IT'S OLE MISS!!!
December 16th, 2012 at 4:01 PM ^
has produced Dez Bryant and Justin Blackmon in the last few years. They run the Air Raid. It's not exactly insane for a WR to want to go there. Same with Oklahoma. And Ole Miss has one of his best friends.
People take this shit too friggin personally.
December 16th, 2012 at 4:38 PM ^
ntOSU should have played LSU in the NCG last year. They've been pretty good the past few years.
December 16th, 2012 at 4:03 PM ^
Hate to say it...but we haven't exactly lit the college football world on fire the over that period of time either.
