and I love rooting for Woodson, but I personally hate the Packers. I'm torn because I need them to win for financial reasons but I want to see them lose as a Bears fan.

For this very reason I will continue root for the Seahawks. I never want the NFL to spit Carroll back into college football.

gave me a few pangs of conscience when their football team failed to break their longstanding losing streak against Michigan in the RR era. [Unnamed Northwestern clarinet prof] is a total jerk so I don't mind his school's team losing, but I still give mad props to NU for landing Robert Marcellus after he was forced to retire from the Cleveland Orchestra.
Sadly, USC's top-notch clarinet program does not redeem their sleazy football program in the slightest.
I usually root for random NFL matchups along blue-red sectional lines, or according to various grudges (Death to the Steelers, Ravens, Bengals, Cowboys, 49ers, Texans, Saints, and Seahawks). Michigan players help tip the balance and redeem certain franchises to a degree, such as Braylon Edwards with the Seahawks, or David Baas with the Giants.

Already had a significant interception.
Don't know if that helps, but I was so fascinated with your inside clarinet knowledge that I had to say something.
September 24th, 2012 at 11:48 PM ^
I'll keep an eye out for him the rest of the season and post-season! I'm flattered that my knowledge of clarinet programs fascinates you.
Manningham helps the cause of the 49ers somewhat.

In the pregame highlights was a clip of Mike Smith trying to explain his problem with a call to a referee before dropping the challenge flag. The funny thing is that Smith seemed like he was prepared to have a reasoned discussion before the referee walked away, at which point the flag went down. I have a suspicion that it was something like:
"Oh, hello...I just wanted to let you know that I had a problem with the call, and I was wondering if you wouldn't be averse to....*ref walks off*....you know what? Eff it. Here it is. *drops challenge flag*"

On another note, 3 of the 5 best defense in the NFL comes from NFC west, a division that once was the worst but could be the toughest in the league
September 24th, 2012 at 9:24 PM ^
Hopefully Braylon.
September 24th, 2012 at 9:12 PM ^
I have Jermichael Finley tonight, and my opponent has no one left to play. I'm down by 0.76, and we get a half point per reception. If he doesn't catch a single pass I'll flip.
September 24th, 2012 at 9:12 PM ^
I swear that, for a moment before that sack, Rodgers had this look that said, "Where are you going? Don't run away now!". That being said, Bruce Irvin is not a dude that you want to see in your personal space like that.
September 24th, 2012 at 9:21 PM ^
But Braylon and Branch as well, lots of Michigan in this game.
September 24th, 2012 at 9:22 PM ^
At this rate the D-line is gonna tire itself out getting all those sacks. Time to put our man Branch in the game.
September 24th, 2012 at 9:27 PM ^
I like Lynch's tenacity in trying to get just one more yard out of any given run. Each time basically, 3/4 of the Packers' defense is on him, grabbing him, shouting, "Oh, for Pete's sake, just go down!".

Jerel Worthy jumping offsides? Shocker...
September 24th, 2012 at 9:36 PM ^
Hey look at that Worthy jumping offsides again.....never gets old. Wish we could bark out hard counts like that.

just needs a 15 yds unsportsmanlike and that should complete the circle.
September 24th, 2012 at 9:40 PM ^
Clearly, someone started talking about how awesome Missouri was and how they would possibly like to live there after their NFL career is over. That's all Worthy needed to lose his discipline on the line.
September 24th, 2012 at 10:00 PM ^
Tramon Williams pointing at Woodson like it's his fault. Yeah, he should have been helping over the top, but Williams got burnt to a crisp on that bomb.
Edit: On the replay Seattle's TE runs a skinny post down the seam, clearing Woodson out. That touchdown was completely on Williams, and was a perfectly executed route by Tate.
September 24th, 2012 at 9:50 PM ^
Seven sacks on Rodgers in one half!?
September 24th, 2012 at 9:53 PM ^
8 now. That's what happens when your secondary is playing lights out and there is absolutely no threat of a run game. Seattle's front is pinning their ears back every play. Seriously, GB passes >85% of the time.
September 24th, 2012 at 9:51 PM ^
OK, I understand that the refs aren't doing the best of jobs, but I'm getting pretty weary of listening to announcers go on and on about them. They did it extensively during Sunday Night Football and Gruden will not stop tonight.
September 24th, 2012 at 9:54 PM ^
Did he just really point at the back of his jersey? Sigh....
September 24th, 2012 at 9:54 PM ^
What Green Bay needs to do is just put the OL and a combination of TEs and FBs out there or anyone on offense who could possibly competently block, forget passing, and have Rodgers try to break off huge chunks of rushing yards. It would be so much simpler right now.
September 24th, 2012 at 9:57 PM ^
but the Pack's OL is immeasurably worse. 8 sacks iN A HALF? Mother Mary of Paul!
September 24th, 2012 at 10:02 PM ^
They are playing poorly, but at least two of the sacks are on Rodgers for holding the ball for too damn long. At some point you have to throw it away or take off.
September 24th, 2012 at 10:49 PM ^
their pass protection is generally sound.
September 24th, 2012 at 10:23 PM ^
Can't run between the tackles forever. Now what, Packers?
September 24th, 2012 at 10:36 PM ^
"Personal foul....late hit on the Seattle Post-Intelligencer photographer....10 yards from the spot of the foul....repeat second down..."
EDIT: Most definitely, 3rd and 37 had a fullback written all over it.
September 24th, 2012 at 11:27 PM ^
Do these refs rewatch these games to see all of the mistakes they make?

Did anyone else think "Oregon" when they saw Seattle's uniforms? This is the first I've seen of Seattle this year... maybe the unis are old news.
September 24th, 2012 at 11:48 PM ^
That has to be an INT, I don't like the Packers but that has to be an INT and a GB win.
September 24th, 2012 at 11:49 PM ^
holy sh*t these refs are bad
September 24th, 2012 at 11:49 PM ^

Well.... Hopefully this expediates the discussions with the NFL refs.

That is just an awful, awful call. I cannot believe they just gave that game to Seattle...Hey Goodell you might want to get on the phone and cut a deal with the real refs.

September 24th, 2012 at 11:52 PM ^
Now that the Browns are safely out of the playoff picture I can laugh at the randomness of the reffing.
My already transient interest in the NFL took another blow tonight.

September 24th, 2012 at 11:56 PM ^
This is some of the craziest sh*t...Can't believe what I just watched, referees aside.
P.S Take your anger towared these men out there offiiciating and gear it towared other people: The NFL, Owners, Referee's Union, etc....I'm sorry it sucks but these guys are trying, they just can't keep up. Sh**ty situation all around.
Edit: PLEASE PLEASE block this PAT and let the mayhem continue!!!

Yes, I can't argue with what you say. I guess on a whole, this whole situation is not a good one. These Refs. are in over their heads, it's been obvious from the get go. I personally thought the bashing was over done, that the regular refs also made bad calls, and that they've done an okay job. This isn't to say they've been great or that they should belong out there any given day becasue they're good at NFL refereeing. But the fact they're forced to be out there sucks and their doing what they can, again, as a whole. Blame the uppers for allowing this to happen, not the individuals over their heads on the field, trying to keep up with these NFL players.
September 24th, 2012 at 11:52 PM ^
That call was horseshit and I'm a Seahawks fan. Get the real refs back.
September 24th, 2012 at 11:54 PM ^
This will be interesting to see if Green Bay actually sends players back out for the extra point. No way do I go back out there if Im a Packer.
