OT: Olympic fail
German diver, Stephen Feck lost it on a dive. Feel bad for the guy, but it was kind-of funny.

He will live in infamy now. He Fecked up big.

OMG that looks like something that was done immediately after the consumption of way too much alcohol, the presence of a bunch of women and the phrase "watch this!"

Maybe Wide World of Sports can replace the flailing ski jumper guy who wiped out in their opening credits, as this is a great contemporary example of the, "agony of defeat".
Wait, is that show still on? Yes, it is, I think it is on just after Baseball Bunch.
August 7th, 2012 at 10:23 AM ^
That dive looked like a disaster from the beginning. Looked like his tuck just fell apart mid-dive.
That said, I guess I'm less impressed by the crash, since that can often be par for the course for high school divers and that's what I got used to watching for four years as a swimmer. One of my good friends decided for reasons still unknown to me to pick up diving as a sophomore, and he got to be pretty good by his senior year but never quite lost the nickname of "50/50" that he picked up his first year.
August 7th, 2012 at 10:31 AM ^
Since he is in the Olympics, I assume he is a pretty good diver, he just lost it on that one. Judges were ruthless, they all gave him zeros. I thought you got a couple of points just for the effort.
August 7th, 2012 at 10:57 AM ^
In diving, you declare your dive ahead of time and if you don't complete the specified number of turns, it's an automatic zero. That was supposed to be a three-and-a-half and it looks like he barely got three, which will get you zeroes every time.

inb4 the NBC delete, and wow that's painful to watch. Not the worst dive I've ever seen, but close
August 7th, 2012 at 10:26 AM ^
I feel for the guy. I did that in my 10th grade gym class from 3m - minus the flips. My back was killing me for weeks afterward.
August 7th, 2012 at 10:34 AM ^
Four years of intense training to become one of the best divers in the world. Then you lose what is probably second-nature in your mind for two seconds and now the guy will live in infamy forever.
Tough pill to swallow.
August 7th, 2012 at 10:35 AM ^
That had to hurt. Poor guy was just trying too damn hard...or not hard enough.

Ten!

When I read your post (prior to watching the video) I thought "That's just terrible, making fun of a guy who put so much work into his craft, gets to the olympics and makes a mistake and this is how you react"....Then I watched the video.
I still feel for the guy and all, but that was pretty much the funniest thing I have seen since gerg washed Demens face with a stuffed animal. In fact I had similar reactions to both. First was shock and embarrassment that was quickly followed by a WTF was that moment that lead to much laughter. Thanks for the post, it made my day.

I hope they put pain killer in the water. SMACK!
August 7th, 2012 at 10:57 AM ^
...which just happened, so it seems, I did see that.
On one hand, I feel for the guy because he worked for years undoubtedly to get to that very diving board and then...well...at least modern science has provided ibuprofen as well as ThermCare pads for that. Ouch. Nonetheless, I admit to chuckling at it.
Thanks for sharing that, and thanks to NBC for at least allowing a few people to see it here.

It's been deleted now. Man do I feel left out...
August 7th, 2012 at 11:28 AM ^
No it's not.

Blocked on copyright grounds already!? Get bent, IOC.
August 7th, 2012 at 10:59 AM ^
Yeah I'm glad the IOC is considered a not-for-profit.
August 7th, 2012 at 11:33 AM ^
The legal definition of not-for-profit is very loose.
August 7th, 2012 at 12:00 PM ^
In all honesty it is a joke. I have worked for 2 different "not-for-profit" organizations for 5 years, and both of them had one goal: try to make as much money as they possibly could.

Well...that's a new approach to diving. Good for him!
August 7th, 2012 at 11:21 AM ^
man that had me laughing but i kinda feel for the guy... a back flop from 3m has got to hurt like a b**ch. plus the fact that he got zeros cant be good for the ego.

Thanks - this is the first link that actually worked for me.
August 7th, 2012 at 12:05 PM ^
And then it was gone...... lol
August 7th, 2012 at 11:51 AM ^
Nope, all taken down with messages either "An error occurred. Please try again later" or "This video contains content from International Olympic Committee, who has blocked it on copyright grounds." Party poopers.
EDIT: Feel for the kid, although I haven't seen the video. Did find a couple stills, though. Anyway, he's seriously just a kid (17 years old), so it's gotta be really tough for him. Had he lived in an English-speaking country, I'm sure he'd be getting the "Feck Up" and Stephen Feckless comments all the time. I'm sure those crafty Germans will come up with their own clever insults. Hope he rebounds from this.
August 7th, 2012 at 12:09 PM ^
Nice try IOC BUT not quite fast enough....
August 7th, 2012 at 12:26 PM ^
Holy Cow. I think the IOC censors could free lance for some of the big entertainment cos. Those guys are fast.
And by the way, why the hell are the Olympics being censored? Amazing.

We are at war with Eurasia. No wait Oceania. Oh screw it:
August 7th, 2012 at 12:48 PM ^
He went a little bit past vertical, that will be a deduction...
NBC hired Harry Doyle?
IOC finally flagged it at 1:10 CST. I guess we are at war with Eurasia.
August 7th, 2012 at 12:39 PM ^
IOC should introduce the belly flop contest. I'd pay to see that over a million rounds of badminton.
But I also wonder, what do you medal for? Loudest flop? Reddest chest? Most "OOOOhhhh"'s induced by chest clutching audience members?
Also, I keep involuntarily finishing your posts with "de plane! de plane!" in my mind.
becomes rich and famous as a result of all this.
Dude every single youtube link on this thread has been taken down. Like 7 or 8 of them. IOC=Wankers.
This is one thing I hate about the Olympics. Also NBC is starting to piss me off in how they are doing the primetime coverage.
