ANOTHER jersey for the Bama game
and the players seem to not want plain and simple and traditional
Remember last year when the UTL unis were revealed...massive freak out ensued and then the game happened and the jerseys, IMO, turned out great. While I was meh on the UTL jersey I did like the way they looked during the game. These new ones, however, are even more MEH for me, but will ultimately hold off my final opinion when I see them on the field.
The UTL Uni's benefited from the good feeling about the game. Had we lost 27-7, they would be in the same mark-down rack as the MSU bumblebees.
These will be a hit with the players, and personally, I do not mind the look. It's not horrible. Just don't fuck with the helmets.
I absolutely love the look.
I like it, Ide be happy if these were our road jerseys for the season.
I also love the dicotomy on this page, its really quite laughable.
camp 1: thats pretty cool, i like that, lets see what it looks like come game time!
camp 2: OMFG THIS IS THE WORST THING SINCE SLICED BREAD WHICH ESPN PROVED A YEAR AGO WAS YOUNGER THAN JO PATERNO SO ITS EVEN WORSE THAN JOPA AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH TAR AND FEATHER DAVE BRANDON
hmmm, this seems a fair assessment of the difference between good fans, and rude, obnoxous, fair weather fans (read osu fans).
p.s. calm the fuck down.
"Frank Beckman, along with Jim Brandstatter, back here at JerryWorld Stadium where the Wolverines have a 10-point lead on Nick Saban's Alabama Crimson Tide going into the start of the 3rd quarter. And, Jim, how about those new uniforms the team has changed into for this half?!
"Frank, it looks like they're going with the Tubby's Famous jerseys, sponsored by Tubby's Grilled Submarines. You know, Frank, these new uniforms have a new color, Mustard Yellow, just for the occasion. I spoke to Dave Brandon, Michigan's Athletic Director, before the game, and he said that Mustard Yellow was actually a 'throw back' color to the pants worn by the '72 and '73 teams. You know how big on tradition Dave Brandon is...."
Curley fries.
Teletubbies
Life could be worse.
What we really want is to bitch about recruiting, but we can't.
that I think they don't look good (they're okay, and I don't think our away jersies have ever been anything awesome) but jesustapdancingchrist how many uniforms do we need in a thirteen game span?
1 stripe across shoulders and block m. aparently the ugliest thing half of mgoblogers have ever seen.
I want Nike back, thats all I'll say on the matter.
Ugh... really, really do not like it. Specifically the bar across the top. Makes it look like it's from Meijer.
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
They aren't nearly as bad as the 'away' Jersiesin the State game last year. Those were the worst I've ever seen.
The worst part about those was the font of the numbers that looked like middle-schoolers drew them on.
...crappy uniformz almost as quickly as he cranked out crappy pizzas.
I guess since we are playing indoors, we decided to look like an Arena League team.
Not as bad as UTL or MSU last year, but they definitely give off the vibe of a cheap Asian knockoff on ebay (especially with MICHIGAN on the back right now instead of a player's name). Or something you could buy at a random truck stop.
I'm just curious what the odds are that the promise of no further changes for the rest of the year actually sticks. Or does it not apply to games played on days ending in Y or postseason contests?
So some anonymous wuss downvotes me for saying it looks like it's from Meijer, but to say it's from a random truck stop is ok. This board BAFFLES me.
I feel sort of like somebody just told me that a couple of our starters got arrested over the weekend.
Really; one look at that makes me think it was the winner of the Tappan Elementary "design a uniform" contest. "Hockey jersey" is what comes to mind. It actually looks more like a hockey jersey, than Michigan's hockey jerseys.
I'd like very much to suggest that we go to Dallas with these uniforms:
May be for the best if nobody knows it's Michigan.
the first time i agree with you.
Translation = the best way Michigan can make money off the brand is to constantly change its image. I'm not against Michigan making money, of course, I just don't think it needs to be done at the expense of tradition.
We don't need to change our image when everyone already knows who we are. Win football games. Nothing else is needed.
The fans we currently have will take whatever we give them so we might as well break out every crazy gimmick possible to bring new wallets to the table, because at the end of the day the people who are currently spending money are going to keep right on doing it.
It's this combative attitude with the people who have and will continue to butter the bread at a place with no shortage of current customers that many find so irritating about our current athletic director's approach to these kinds of things.
People disappointed about the multitude of jerseys last year should be relieved - this is it for the special jerseys except for the possibility of a different design for the bowl.
Being ok with one terrible jersey is just the start of being ok with two terrible jerseys and then suddenly we have RAWK music in the Big House, altered Wings on the helmets, and hash tags on the field during the Spring Game.
You're right, the terrorists have won.
#overreaction
It was a joke. Poorly written, I guess.
Come on those jerseys are bad ass, don't get me wrong I want the standard road jersey to go back to the all or mostly white. But those look good and the gloves are sweet I want them.
Where's
"LOOK AT THIS DUMB NIKE YELLOW NOVELTY JERSEY. IS THIS WHAT YOU WANT!?!?!?!?! SURELY THIS IS WHAT NIKE WILL GIVE YOU!!!!!"
guy when you need him? He's right in one aspect, we don't know how bad it could get with Nike. But what we do know is that it could not possibly get worse than this crap.
I get that people like us buy these jerseys and if they sell DB will continue producing new uniforms..but do you buy into the "alternate" jerseys help sell recruits?..because I for one am fine with the standard away jerseys..but that is just my opinion...but I saw TomVH retweet some recruits saying they loved these..so maybe they do help a little..who knows?
Commits are probably not going to go on Twitter and say they think they are ugly. They would also be just as positive about the standard road uniforms if for some reason they were in the news.
As for whether or not it lands recruits, I sincerely doubt it. USC has the #1 class in the country and they have never used a gimmicky uniform. Alabama hasn't either as far as I can remember and they've done just fine. Same for Texas, Oklahoma (I think) and probably a few others. Also, since now just about everybody has/will do it at some point, you aren't really standing out from the crowd by doing it. If these make a difference, they make the same difference for the countless other schools that are doing the same shit.
Michigan can either market itself as Michigan or as some hip new thing that can change all the time. Dave Brandon seems to think the latter move is more effective. I think that if you have 132 years of Michigan tradition, trying to reinvent yourself constantly or acting like everybody else is pretty fucking dumb.
The maize reminds me of those bad sparty jerseys with the black top (not as bad obviously) In my opinion I dont like any of these jerseys, and you know alabama will have a classic look, we should too, two traditional teams, it would be like the Tom Brady Orange Bowl game
"Michigan will be utilizing a new paint technology on the maize wings on the helmet in order to better highlight the most recognizable helmet in college football and create a more durable surface." - from MGoBlue
Call me particular, but I would like to know a little more about what this entails. Playing with one of the most iconic things in college football uneases me a little bit and I would like to find out more about how they might look. As for the for the uniforms, like others, I do like the numbers without the outline, but I am not very fond of the maize stripe or the gloves. I suppose I could live with the block "M" on the shoulders if the jersy were all white, but it seems a bit busy to me in this photo.
If they were to change the helmet, they would certainly meet some sort of resistance. And in Dave Brandon's world, they helmet already has three stripes!
And maize pants?! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!
