WHICH ONE OF THESE MEN IS WILL CAMPBELL? TRICK QUESTION

He is not correct. The result:

According to Ann Arbor police, Campbell was arrested after attempting to slide across the hood of a vehicle at 2 a.m. on April 7 in the 600 block of Church Street. An officer in the area could hear the sheet metal on the hood of the car buckle under Campbell’s weight — he’s listed at 322 pounds — and arrested the senior, police stated.

Campbell was intoxicated, according to police.

I'd hope so.

He's got a felony and a misdemeanor coming, which will obviously be pled down to some community service and a fine and Brady Hoke doghouse time. Will it affect his availability for Alabama? I'd say probably not, but we'll see.

that this is a felony is the sheer cost of the repair.  If they had to replace the hood, it will require painting and then both front quarters would need to be blended.  Depending on the car and the persistence of the owner, it could total $750 to $1000 dollars.  I don't know what the threshold for a felony is in Michigan.

EDIT: See below.  $1,000 is not a lot considering the age of the vehicle.  Some of the vehicles on the road use a triple coat process and will require lots of blending to ensure that the pieces match.  If he damaged either headlight, the cost will be well over $1,000.

If its more than $1000 to replace the damage, then its felony destruction of property.  Under $1000 is a misdemeanor.  Tough to see a damaged hood costing more than $1000, but who knows what else he broke.  Maybe some other car panels got damaged along with some things under the hood (radiator, etc)  Dropping 300+ on to a car can do a lot of damage.

You have to prove intent, and meet the damage threshold. Campbell could probably beat this at trial by saying he didn't intend to mess up the car, but that seems like too much trouble when you can just pay back the money and still get your case dropped, or at a minimum a tiny misdemeanor.

and it didn't get good gas mileage. in 1998, who cared? Causation/Correlation.... yuuuuuuuuup.

The brick-shaped windshield had nothing to do with it. Also, it didn't have any cross bracing or additional strength measures that go into modern car hoods. They are designed for strength from the front though (like in a crash) rather than from above (like a 322lb guy jumping on it).

actually, Freshman year 2 drunk friends of mine jumped on the hood and dented it. I got a "Ding King" and pulled the dents out no problem. No arrests. Good thing I wasn't friends with D Linemen...

The only plastic used for hoods is SMC and it has a much better chance of surviving BWC than a steel hood.  The lightweight steel used for body panels these days will dent much easier.

In fact, we have pedrestrian impact issues with SMC because it's a tougher material.

Arrested for sliding across the hood of a car?   I guess it wasn't his car, obviously.  But still.  Fun police in full effect.

In short, nothing to worry about.  Move along.

we have something called a prayerful judgement. For minor traffic violations, and stuff like this, if the judge thinks you're a good person who just screwed up, showed remorse (and in this case took care of the damage) and you plead guilty, and you get a prayerful judgement: a sort of suspended judgement which will only go on your record if there is a repeat offense in two years.

Quaint and my what separation of church and state we have down here sure, but this would appear to be a good opportunity to use such a tool.

Is it me or do the prosecutors in Washtenaw County seem like some overzealous SOBs??  First we had Josh Furman's overblown "domestic violence" incident, & now BWC's felony charge.  I'm glad I can breath again after nearly passing out while checking Mgo in a traffic jam.  Like Brian said, this will plead down to very little, BWC should play against Bama IF he doesn't mess up from here.
