Smotrycz, Christian, Brundidge all transferring

"We never like to see players leave the program, however, Evan, Colton and Carlton have made the decision to transfer and continue their careers elsewhere," said Beilein. "All three are fine young men with bright futures. We wish them and their families nothing but success going forward."
Well this was unexpected.
This sucks. Yeah none would likely be starters next year but there goes any depth.
Not to negate their value, but is there any late 2012 recruit worth grabbing that we have a shot at?
On the front page Brian said we have a shot at this guy.
I would also take Elena Delle Donne
Michigan will still have depth with incoming freshmen SG/PG Stauskas, PF Hornford, SG/SF Vogrich, PF/C Bielfedt and C/PF McLimans...plus Michigan is still in the run for PG/SG Amedeo Della Valle who is a 3* recruit and Scout has hi as the #26 SG in the country. The roation will go 8 to 9 deep in 2012-2013 season. The cup board is not empty.

Three or four days ago Bacari said something like this was the end of his twitter. Is any of this related. Was he the primary coach for Smot?
Christian and Brundidge aren't huge shocks, but Evan Smotrycz?!?!
Guess that settles the debate as to who will be playing the 4 next year.
Smotrycz:
“It’s just a matter of what I thought was the right fit, something my family agreed on,” Smotrycz said. “I don’t want to say too much right now in being sensitive to the coaching staff. But it was a decision I had to make to be somewhere I was happy.”
I am shocked that Smotrycz is leaving. That doesn't seem to make a lot of sense.
Maybe, but his body language towards the end of the season just seemed like he didn't give a shit really..
Some games he was a great contributor, others he didn't and nearly fouled out of a lot of games.
I agree with you. If you watch the video of the team watching/winning the big ten championship when MSU lost, smotz was the only one not celebrating and kind of just sat their by himself
Smotrycz....NOOOOO
Guess those students with the lobster get-ups better find themselves some new seafood to support.
They were annoying anyway...
Smotrycz Lobstrycz was awesome. RIP Lobstrycz
Stauskus Lobstrus???
I never saw this coming. Smotrycz was about to see his playing time at his correct position about to increase too.
what the f?
Losing Evan Smotrycz is going to hurt. I has a sad.
Bye bye depth.
So since 3 spots are open on basketball team, can we transfer those for 2013 football recruiting?... *Crosses fingers for Berkley Edwards*
/Sarcasm
Um. What the hell just happened?!
Smotz just doesn't make any sense.
Edit to add: Also, this KILLS what depth we had at PG, which was none this year, but I think some people were at least expecting Brundidge to at least push for time at the point.
I'm shocked.
HAVE YOU NO FEELINGS FOR THE FUTURE OF THE LOBSTRYCZ'S?? WHHHYYYYYY??
none.
This definitely comes as a shock. Big news. Thanks for all the contributions, especially Smot.
I wonder if the fans blaming him for the Ohio loss had anything to do with this?
Edit: Obviously I meant this for Smotz
I seriously hope that he is smart enough to realize that 1) that loss was not his fault at all, and 2) Fans who blamed him for that loss are completely and totally stupid.
There's no way. He's an athlete and has been dealing with criticism for quite some time. However, he was mad enough to tweet about it
fans ran him off. sad.
Yes, he has suddenly taken his life in an entirely different direction because of irrational message board posters.
He tweeted this a couple days ago if that sheds in light on the situation
Every team has idiot fans...and the people who were jumping on him were being idiots.
player cannot take some criticism (regardless of how just or accurate it is), maybe he shouldn't be playing big time college basketball.
It's the nature of fandom and I can almost guarantee him that the criticism would be worse at 99% of the other schools.
But that doesn't change the fact that after the Ohio game a decent amount of people turned into bandwagon-jumping f*ckjobs who should go root for some other team.
You've got your homer goggles on. The criticism is just as bad here as at a lot of other schools. 99% is pushing it. You must not have been in a game liveblog recently for football or bball.
And if the fans were taking to twitter to bash him I don't blame him for getting annoyed and hurt. It's one thing to criticize a guy on a blog, it's another thing entirely to harass him on his personal social media page. I know I know, public access rabblerabblerabble. Get some class guys sitting on your couch talking down college athletes. I'll never believe this is within the rights of fans. It may be the norm, but that doesn't mean it should be.
but my point is simply that this type of criticism happens at all schools (especially in major conferences) and if this were his problem, then going someplace else will not lessen it (I guess he could go to a smaller D2 school that doesn't follow sports that much?).
Hell, look at the Yale QB who turned down the Rhodes Scholarship to play in a game against Harvard. Even the Ivies take their sports seriously.
Then you are correct as well. I don't understand why a guy would have to turn down the Rhodes scholarship for one game though.. Did he come back for a 5th year or something?
up with Bain or BCG (one of the strat consulting firms) after graduation (presumably, he could have done that after the Rhodes, but to each his own).
He actually didn't turn it down for football reasons. Looks like he didn't turn it down.
that picec wasn't reported on ESPN, huh?
I think that the comments by idiot fans did not help but if you watched Smotrycz' body language and his level of play from about Jan. 1st on, something was not right. Sure he had a few solid games. However, overall, I kept asking what was wrong with him and Hardaway, Jr. for almost the entire Big 10 season. I think his mind was probably made up a few months ago.
Have you seen fraternity guys at football games? Do you remember people going to twitter to tell Morris what a mistake he was making? Social media is great but there are so many negatives since everyone seems to think their opinion matters so much or that they are right. But I am posting on an internet blog....
That's great.
But... wow. Sorry to see them go.
