One does not simply walk into Michigan and commit when the recruting class is full in March
Ok could someone explain this for someone who doesnt follow recruiting that closely? I thought Gedeon was an LB too, no? Are coaches saying that we are full with Gedeons silent commitment? If so, that seems strange given that O'Daniel is, well, better.
just maybe Brady Hoke thinks Gedeon is better?
Why is Dorian O'Daniel better? Because some recruiting service says so?
Because it's obvious to anyone who's ever watched a football game?

Whether O'Daniel is better or Gedeon is better is beside the point. If the coaches had offers out to both players for one LB spot, and Gedeon committed first, then that's who they take. You accept Gedeon's committment and you politely tell O'Daniel that the position is full and wish him luck elsewhere. It's called integrity.
The coaches telling recruits to not waste their time and money builds a solid rapport with coaches and future recruits.
Gedeon is not a silent commit and badgering him about if/when he will commit would not be helpful. He wants more time to decide.
In addition to Morgan, Poole & Hawthorne, Ringer & Ross are slated for the WILL position, too (at least initially, anyway). there's simply no room for O'Daniel in this class. Its very possible that we only take one more linebacker in this class.
There were a ton of comments condeming the Conley kid saying we should be more selective, this is what they are doing. They first realize that they have a great shot with two players that are higher rated (on THEIR board) and are going to let it play out. Plus they just brought in 2-3 kids last year that play the exact position that O'Daniel would play. We have other needs beside the LB position. I personally wouldnt mind seeing them bring 2 more DT's this year or another true cover corner.
I'm kinda bummed out about this. He was second on my lb wish list behind Levenberry. Great players coming in though, so no disrespect intended to McCray or Gedeon (If he's actually a silent right now).
Wish it had worked out, I wouldn't have minded building a stronger relationship with Good Counsel considering how many elite athletes they seem to produce.
It is sad to that a quality athlete and a Michigan fan does not have a spot on this team. That's the problem with having a great school, a great program, and a great coaching staff. Not everyone who wants to play here will be able to recieve a spot, even some very good players.
Is he a fan? I havent read anything about that beforehanf.
I haven't seen tape on any LBers, but I trust the coaches on this. They must be very confident in their chances with Gedeon. And since they're only taking 2 and a third only if it's Levenberry, I'm glad the coaches are being honest with O'Daniel telling him they're full.
O'Daniel seems like a great player from the recruiting services and everything and another team will be getting a good player and seems like a good kid. I was kind of hoping we'd get O'Daniel not only because he's a good player but also to open up a pipeline with Good Counsel. Also getting O'Daniel wouldn't have hurt with Fuller as well. Not getting him doesn't have to hurt either, but it probably doesn't help.
O'Daniel = good athlete, but not necessarily a great linebacker.
The coaches aren't telling these kids not to visit, so get that out of your heads. The coaches are telling these kids that there's no room for the commit. Here's how the conversation goes:
COACH: "Hey, Linebacker X. I just want to let you know that we're full at your position, but you're still welcome to come to campus in case a spot opens up."
LINEBACKER X: "You mean I couldn't commit even if I wanted to?"
COACH: "Nope, sorry. But a spot might open up down the road if you wait it out."
LINEBACKER X: "No, thanks. I think I'll spend my time visiting elsewhere."
COACH: "Good luck."
The end.
Magnus is right, why would the coaches not let him visit and possibly destroy the connection with GC.
It's better to NOT let him visit (and possibly commit) if they already have the position full (silent commit)/waiting for their top candidate that has Michigan ranked very highly. Otherwise they'll end up looking like Saban - which would truly destroy their connections. Because that's not the reputation that they're trying to recruit as. Or maybe I'm just looking at it from a weird POV.
are we taking 2 or 3 LBs?
It's my understanding that the coaches want 2 to fill the class out, especially with this news. However if one of the staffs top 10 prospects is a LB which Levenberry seems to be a spot would be held for that player regaurdless of position.

The Recruit grows or developes into another position or wants to play on a different side of the ball? It gives both the recruit and recruitor a chance to look at options, hell we got time.
To the guy negging every post: you know that doesn't do anything, right?
Come on BISB, the first rule of mgomoderation is....
I guess it's good that Hoke & Co. are high enough on 1-2 other LB's that you can turn away a top100 linebacker...but then again, it's a top100 linebacker we had to turnaway. Brady Hoke Problems I guess
Who is the other LB recruit? Is Gedeon a silent? Or are we waiting for Levenberry? We don't know what the coaches are saying or what the plan is. What we do know is they are doing an amazing job recruiting, and our teams will have improved talent every year for at least the next three years (2012 and 2013 class are more talented than the previous classes).
Someone get Hoke on the phone so we can get some answers!

Under RichRod:Supply of available spots > demand. Under Hoke: demand for available spots > supply.

We'll end up with 3 LBs - McCray, Gedeon and Levenberry.
Sucks that we couldn't make room for Dorian O'Daniel, but when you're recruting the way Michigan is, top guys are going to be left out, it's the nature of the beast. Hopefully, the players we take, for example, Gedeon, Levenberry, and McCray, are the top guys on our coach's boards, cause if so, all will work out in the end. This is how it is, recruitin at the top.

We will take 3 LB's in this class if the third is named Levenberry.

I hope they are this selective with the WR and DL commits.
