Eleven Warriors Article on Michigan's Trash Talking

Submitted by StephenRKass on

Over at Eleven Warriors, there is an article entitled LINK: The Clucking Up North. The column is about Molk's comments dissing OSU Center Brewster, Wisconsin's Konz, and other comments from Michigan recruits. (Pipkins on Schutt, and Magnuson's tweet. (**** OSU. It doesn't matter who their coach is, we will continue to whip their ass, and enjoy doing it.)

While I don't care for Ohio, Byrnes has a point. Sometimes it is better to shut your mouth, and let your play on the field do the talking. In my way of thinking, Michigan's record against Ohio over the last 10 years doesn't warrant a lot of trash talking. Hoke gets this, and actually, he must have conveyed it to the team. The guys doing the yapping are either done (Molk) or haven't started yet (Magnuson, Pipkins, even Dymonte Thomas.)

When we have flipped things, and dominate Ohio for multiple years, I'll feel better about guys talking.

I try to refrain from using harsh language on this blog, but he can honestly get fucked. I've had enough of submitting to OSU bullshit and I'm frankly glad that our players are ready to talk shit and back it up on field. Fuck the record, fuck the past. We're here to compete and if you have a problem with that then show it on field. The days of laying down to Tressel-led teams has passed and Urban can do whatever he pleases. Michigan isn't going anywhere anytime soon. The competition will be played out on field not on blog posts written by nobodies. Enjoy getting beat with players who grew up OSU fans.

It's nice knowing we're back at a point where OSU fans are so butt hurt they make such big deals about quotes like this and have to constantly rationalize about why their recruiting class will be better than ours. I like it this way.

I am all for trash-talking as long as it's funny.  If you talk trash and it isn't funny, then you just look like an asshole.

They have to try and conjure up some chalk board material based off of recruit chatter....cmon. Don't be mad because Michigan has a new found swagger .....be mad that your glory decade is over and marred with scandal....far beyond what you've been punished with...seeing as how your in bed with the Ncaa. Michigan is recruiting players with a Passion for the maize and blue and I damn love the bell out of it. If theses comments hurt their feelings maybe they need to get thicker skin. ***k Ohio....we all feel that way.....so why is it an issue when the men that will be facing the red devils from the south come out and say it?! This is petty and I stand behind our boys. The days when we don't have kids confident enough to come out and say these things are the days we just finished suffering through....the days where Ohio was looked at like a juggernaut....Ohio is and has always been a Regional power. Don't feed their ego. Lebron left for a reason....your university is classless and willing to sell their soul for a victory. Your an institution of cheaters and you simply will never ever be on the same plain as THE university of Michigan. Thanks and the 100 of Michigan fans that are lucky enough to get seats in your disgusting Horseshoe for the Game next (due to your attempts to maximize homefield with crooked visitor seating allotments....shady bastards..) will witness another victory over your scandal stained program. Goodnight and Go blue.....oh yeah....beat Sparty for once this Sunday too....stop pretending to be a basketball power and live up to expectations for once. Cannon.

Ohio fans being upset about this kind of thing is the surest sign that the ship has been righted in Ann Arbor.  The more time they spend worrying about Michigan, what we are doing, what we are saying, etc. the better.

Get over yourself, Ramzy. Most of our players do take the high road. But you can't get every player to put a sock in it, so there will be a few who may say things to the media. Not worth crying over.

I would also add that Molk, who has since graduated and no longer answers to our team, coach, or media guys, didn't say anything about the OSU team--he just mentioned the former OSU center, in the context of trying to raise his draft stock. I don't think it was the classiest way to do it, but Molk is gonna Molk.

I don't think we have much of a problem, unless you want to talk about fans and Ramzy does NOT want to go there.

Perhaps.  I went to the men's basketball game in Columbus this year, and I can't tell you how many times I heard, "yeah, you beat our second string."  Most folks were okay - the comment I heard the most was "we're just glad the rivalry is back," but there was still a collection of inane comments...

most of you are saying fuck ohio, which is a good thing.  but half of you saying this will be rooting for these fuckwads tomorrow.  that makes zero sense.  we all know the type of fan fucknuts are, they are obnoxious, dumb, ugly, inbred robots whose best parts dribbled down their mothers thighs or throat.  and yet a couple of posts want to say how civilized this rivalry should be.  well fuck that.  as hoke said:

that remedial state college in that town named for an italian that brought smallpox to the new world does not deserve any Meechigan fan's respect. that school has done nothing to deserve anything other than contempt and hatred. they fucking cheated for 10 years. their fans did not care how they won as long as they won. FUCK THEM.

It must suck that all of Ohio's recent success has a big asterisk beside it.  It's threads like these from Ohioans that reminds the world that they don't have jobs and use all their time to spew vitriol our way.  And then they spin it like it is we who are the degenerates.

Not may at UM feel the Fab Five years didn't happen. Those years meant somehtng when talking about how good UM basketball was in comparison to other teams. Yes OSU cheated but they also kicked our ass for most of the last decade. They were a much better team. We beat them when their program was collapsing so it doesn't even feel the same. Yeah it's the best rivalry and you can talk shit all you want on the field but I say hold off in public until we have the edge over them for an extended period of time.

I am an OSU fan, and I love and respect this rivalry.  I read this blog on occasion and usually find it to be filled with rational and smart sports fans.  This thread, however, has been an eye-opener.

Sad to see the "class" and "respect" that Brady Hoke preaches has not reached his team's fans.

I love the good-natured trash talk, but you guys are foaming at the mouth with hate.  That's fine, I guess.  But if your recruits don't buy in to Hoke, and instead, buy in to the Fans' hate, it's going to be another loooong decade for UM fans.

My friend Ohio State has the most obnoxious, annoying and disgusting fans in all of sports next to the Oakland Raiders. This is a team who's fan base prides itself in anti-Michigan vulgar on a daily basis. You can't have your cake and eat it too here. You are just as guilt as any fanbase is with your hate. I'm a Michigan fan and I live in Ohio and back during the early and mid 2000s I received vulgar comment after comment. Fuck Michigan, Ann Arbor is a Whore, Fuck Blue, Bitchagain, I could go on and on. Plus with the little "Project X" show you put on in the pre game and post game in 2002 should make you embarrassed to even be a Buckeye fan. I remember that night and in case you don't remember here's how it went down.

A car going down North High Street or maybe it was Cleveland Ave. is facing a ton of drunk out of control morons and honks to get them to move. They broke apart these people's winshield start destroying the car and then beat them on the ground and they take off running terrified of facing another mob like this one.

A half hour later all the drunks pour out of their houses and start LIGHTING CARS and dumpsters on FIRE....In the fucking streets. Cars that don't even belong to them. The blazes coming from the streets and campus are so big you can see them from downtown. Riot squads are called out to retain a crowd of insane people and students 5,000 strong...

At the end of  the night when the situation dies down and CPD, CFD has everything under control finally a total of 107 fires are reported from the riot including 27 cars destroyed and burned, over 500,000 in damages including 76 arrests and other charges.

Ever see this shit go down in Ann Arbor? No and it never will. Even with the Rich Rod years there was none of this going on. Fact is your fan base will always like a bunch of anarchist dip shits before, during and after a game and continue to be a bunch of hypocritical fucktards. I have no respect and will never have respect for Ohio State's campus and their fan base. With that said, you and every Bucknut can go fuck yourself.

That is horrible!!! Is that really what goes down on Ohio State's campus after the Michigan game because that is disgusting! Peoples cars are on fire and they're laughing and thinking it's ok?! Somebody could of been killed for god sake! Shame Ohio State. There's like 6 more videos on that riot too! Disgusting and pure trash! I really don't know If i even want to go to Ohio to see the game next year in Columbus after looking at that video. That's scary :/. Other Huskers and Big Ten fan bases need to see these videos... Now I see why you all hate Ohio so much!

Right, because the actions of some magically imputes to everyone else who roots for that team?  I, of course, denounce anyone who acts like an idiot.  For the very same reasons I denounce the stuff in that video I denounce the stuff on this thread.  Your logic of two wrongs making a right is not only ignorant but it misses the entire point.

The more that we degrade this rivalry by acting like idiots (OSU and UM fans alike), then we will go from The Game to The Embarassment.  Luckily Hoke and Meyer seem like classy guys who have already kicked out players in both teams that have broken team rules (Stonum for UM, Clarke and Berry for OSU).

But the point of the 11W article is that if the incoming recruits mimic the mongrel idiocy of the fans of the team (like Pipkins, for instance), then we are doing the rivalry a disservice.

Back to your corners.

Bucky: methinks you extrapolate too much from a couple of tweets from a 17- or 18-year-old kid, especially for a fan base that prides itself in the song "we don't give a damn for the whole state of Michigan." Regardless, welcome to the board; we don't get many opposing fans here who can complete coherent sentences. You are welcome here as long as you keep things civil. Oh... and, 40-34.

Wings: Knock it off. Trying to demonstrate that another fanbase is dickish by calling them fucktards is... not good. Your points return in two weeks.

I believe that's what they call Urban Meyer in shorthand. You can't really expect buckeyes to embrace calling their coach UM, so they put the F in the middle.

I also believe the F stands for what everyone thinks it stands for, if that does anything for your opinion.

Someone needs to post that Denard Robinson "U MAD BRO?" picture on that thread.

Let me get this straight...

Brady Hoke calling them "Ohio" is empty bravado, but Urb referring to Mich as "That School up North" is... what, the pinnacle of reverence?

Also, any fanbase that doesn't recognize the derpy derpness of "scUM" has no room to talk about class.

I've already given my opinion on trash talking. I get that there is going to be some trash talk on the field, or basketball court. But I still hold that it should be good natured.

I get that many Ohio fans are obscene jerks. But just because someone else is a foul mouthed jerk doesn't mean that Michigan fans need to go wallow in the gutter with Ohio fans.

And I'm not suggesting that Michigan fans need to be the effete, wine and brie and blazer crowd.

Personally, I like Brian's cutting sarcasm. I think he was the one who coined "cooler pooper," which is a great two word insult. It is derogatory, speaks to their (lack of) culture, it isn't overly crass, it is descriptive and evocative. "Pass the hymnals, cooler poopers" was a great one line sentence to mock the sanctimony of Tressel, as well as the behavior of fans.

I've never wanted to embed a video, but today's the day I wish I had learned how. Here's what I want to embed:  the scene from the movie "Roxanne," with Steve Martin. He comes up with 20 self-mocking nose jokes (link.). You really should watch the clip:  Martin is good natured, takes down the oaf, and the jerk is a great picture of an Ohio fan. In fact, he's even wearing scarlet and grey.

So here's a challenge:  come up with 20 Ohio/Columbus insults that are creative, humorous, patronizing, insulting, intelligent and go beyond "Eff Ohio."  Watch the clip if you need ideas.

Agree with your sentiments.  Putdowns should have humor to them.

Here are some I have always liked, suitably modified:

You hear about the Buckeye who was SOOO obnoxious...

The other Buckeyes NOTICED?

Ohio likes to recruit ehir players big and dumb.

But, if they are dumb enough, they don't have to be all that big.

The OSU Medical School used to use white rats in their experiements, but now use trailer park Buckeye fans.  They stated three reasons for doing so:

(1) There are more trailer park Buckeye fans in Ohio than rats, so they are easier to procure;

(2) They don't have a problem with the researchers sympathizing with the trailer park Buckeye fans like they did with the rats; and

(3) There are some things a rat finds too disgusting to do.
