Ondre is going to be a BEAST. I wish he could've gotten 1 or 2 years with Mike Martin, but more importantly is that he gets 3-4 with Hoke, Mattison and Montgomery.
I can't wait to see what this team does next year. Pipkins is going to be a BEAST down the road.
November 30th, 2011 at 12:12 AM ^
I got to see this kid a year ago, and even then he was a beast. He seems like a good kid, wish he had a year with Molk and Martin in the weight room, but I'm sure the S&C coaches will make sure he gets his work done, either way he is gonna be hard to move, and he plays with a real nasty streak which I think we need.
November 29th, 2011 at 10:56 PM ^
I love this guy. With 3 key players on the D-Line leaving next year, I cannot wait for Pipkins to come, especially after he has been feasting on O-linemen this year. Plus, having a Head/D-line coach like Hoke teaching him up, he's gonna be a BEAST

Great write up and it makes me feel better about this coaching staff. I'm glad Pipkins talking about Hoke "teaching" rather than "telling" players what to do, it seemed to me like that might be the most simplistic, and accurate statement regarding the differences in the two coaching staffs I have heard in quite some time.

Why do you get negged on every post regardless of content?
November 29th, 2011 at 11:08 PM ^
are you suggesting that you would only expect that type of petty attitude on an OSU board??? you must not be a Michigan fan...

You will find out all in due time. This is Chet's 3rd account or so I believe.

So it's ok to react to the poster and not the post?
November 30th, 2011 at 1:14 AM ^
No. There are very strict rules about what receives an up or down votes. Can you imagine if everyone had their own standards? CHAOS. You wouldn't even be able to tell if someone was a good poster by the number of points he has.

Come on, you should know the answer to that
November 30th, 2011 at 12:56 AM ^
Oh God, why did I get negged? Did I catch the Chet disease? Lord save me!!!

I don't know why you are getting negged either, especially since you basically said what Pipkins was told by the other players about the current coaching staff.
November 30th, 2011 at 9:14 AM ^
History has a way of repeating itself. You'll find out in due time. Chet's already had a couple accounts caved because of his trolling tendencies.

Love him already
November 29th, 2011 at 11:04 PM ^
Thanks for sharing. Gotta love how he keeps mentioning earning a spot, going to be tough to keep him out of the rotation his freshmen year.
November 29th, 2011 at 11:04 PM ^
Let's hope he's the persuasive type.

I love it when big recruits want to be in a winged helmet. Makes me feel great when they talk so highly about the coaching staff and they believe in the program. I also love it when they go out and recruit others and share moments like what Pipkins did. He will me a huge force for the DL. THIS IS MICHIGAN! GO BLUE!
November 29th, 2011 at 11:18 PM ^
They both seem to be working Garnett hard.
I am starting to really like our chances.
November 29th, 2011 at 11:21 PM ^
but Pipkins is the guy I am most enthusiastic about, by far. I cannot wait to see him in a Michigan helmet.
November 29th, 2011 at 11:29 PM ^
first piece that I read that Hoke is a teacher and RR is a director. Hoke is doing things with the guys off the field? Talk about family.... this is good stuff.
November 29th, 2011 at 11:53 PM ^
That's one of the big things about Hoke. He's may be not the best Xs and Os guy, but what he does know is technique, how to lead, and how to make guys fight for one another. Those are extremely important aspects of a head coach. Coach Hoke is smart enough to leave the plays to Borges and Mattison.

Line play wins in college football. You can never have enough solid lineman on both sides of the ball.
November 29th, 2011 at 11:39 PM ^
Wins at every level of football.
November 29th, 2011 at 11:41 PM ^
Great line play in college football can hide a lot of weaknesses, moreso than in the pros IMO.
Aaron Rodgers has never had a great line in Green Bay and they've never been able to run the ball consistently either. Barry Sanders never had the benefit of a spectacular line. Just a couple examples.
November 29th, 2011 at 11:47 PM ^
The Lions O-line now isn't the greatest either.
November 30th, 2011 at 12:57 AM ^
Idiot. Every football game high school college pro is won up front.
November 30th, 2011 at 1:14 AM ^
Wow BRO, didn't realize line play was such a sore subject. Agree to disagree. It's more important at some levels than others.
November 30th, 2011 at 8:57 AM ^
tell that to all the injured Qbs that we have had. Lions Qb gets sacked more than any other team each year.
November 30th, 2011 at 10:27 AM ^
November 30th, 2011 at 10:53 AM ^
Tell that to stat man... They gave up the second fewest sacks in the NFC.
November 29th, 2011 at 11:40 PM ^
Pipkins is going to FEAST ON YOUR SOULS!
I also love the emphasis he is putting on academics, even though he already has a full-ride locked up with Michigan. Nice to see our recruits are willing to put in more than the minimum effort when it comes to education.
November 29th, 2011 at 11:41 PM ^
I believe will decide soon especially if it becomes a race with diamond. Does anyone know wether Garnett brought Fam with him on his official? If not he'll prob do it on his next visit ( he said he was coming back) and that to me would seal the deal. As far as Dunn idk I think it's a toss up, and diggs I'm sure were behind Florida a lot of work needs to be "Dunn" there.
November 29th, 2011 at 11:59 PM ^
Ondre is going to be a beast in college. I was especially impressed with his academics quote at the end of the article.
November 30th, 2011 at 12:21 AM ^
Is it just me or does Ondre look absolutely huge compared to the rest of the D-line in his video.
November 30th, 2011 at 12:40 AM ^
Molk mentioned becoming a lot better because he practiced against Martin. Hopefully we see the same mutual improvement between guys like Pipkin and Kalis. (Yes I understand Kails is a tackle, but you get the idea.)
November 30th, 2011 at 12:56 AM ^
oh shit pee wee better be ready to dominate foos, cus he gunna have some big shoes to fill, ya herd.
November 30th, 2011 at 12:59 AM ^
Ondre looks like a ...
.. 3-4 NT. Not that that's going to happen, of course. But with a D-Line of Godin (WDE), Pipkins (NT), and Strobel (SDE) with Wormley as the SOLB, Ojemudia as the WOLB, and RJS and Ross as ILBs.. not to mention a defensive backfield of Countess, Wright, Wilson, and Clark with Terry Rich as the nickel... we could be scary good.
Pharoah Brown would be a better SOLB in a 3-4 than Wormley, but he decided to try TE instead.
We might even be the college incarnation of the steel curtain with that set-up!
November 30th, 2011 at 1:42 AM ^
I don't believe Brown is considered a commit after his Oregon visit.
November 30th, 2011 at 1:22 AM ^
I love this kid's attitude. Given the way they all talk about Michigan, you can tell Hoke and the coaches are doing a fantastic job recruiting a class that really understands what the program is about.
November 30th, 2011 at 8:26 AM ^
him play
November 30th, 2011 at 5:14 AM ^
It's interesting that Rodriguez's former players are saying that he never "taught them how to play football."
November 30th, 2011 at 6:00 AM ^
...and found it interesting that they'd tell Pipkins something like that, and it's also interesting that Denard seemed to imply that his former coach really did try to make the Denard Show. Those two implications piqued my curiosity.
As for Pipkins, he did witness history - we've never gone seven years winless in The Game. Of all the potential defensive recruits, he is one of the most exciting and would make a frighteningly good addition to the D-Line, I think.
November 30th, 2011 at 9:23 AM ^
It's something I've heard from players on the team before for what it is worth. I never wanted to talk about it much since on some level it sounded like sour grapes and of course isn't something you can confirm. Things like Hoke having to cover "No more pincher bug" and other basics though definitely suggest it is true on some level.
End of the day at least it looks like Hoke has total buyin to his system, which is what matters from here on out.
November 30th, 2011 at 9:58 AM ^
That's damning, and a trap some coaches get into. My High school coaches did a lot of that, telling you "PLAY BETTER" and not actually showing you HOW to play better.
No I'm not bitter :)
As a side note somewhere I recall Mattison claiming that the Michigan players, "did not know how to study film properly". I don't recall where I saw that but it was way back in the spring.
November 30th, 2011 at 10:34 AM ^
One of the coaches on our staff says things like "Make the play" and "We're just not making plays." It drives me crazy because it's not like the kids don't want to make plays. But they're either not good enough to do it (and saying "make the play" won't help) or they don't know the proper technique to do it (and saying "make the play" won't help).
November 30th, 2011 at 12:29 PM ^
In reading 3 and out, one of the things that struck me about 2009/2010 (after the "over practice" allegations) is multiple places where Bacon says straight out and implies that the coaching staff was hesitant to urge kids to do more film work, because they were so paranoid about getting dinged for excessive practice time, even though individual film study hours are "uncountable".
Bloody freep. Rodriguez made plenty of mistakes of his own, but it stinks that Rosenberg and friends had to make things even harder. :(

I haven't read 3 & out (yet) but that doesn't sound surprising, unfortunately. However I was struck more by Mattions' comment about "proper" film study.
I can't find the original comment but here is an article where Mike Martin says something along those lines:
http://annarbor.com/sports/um-football/michigan-football-teams-mike-mar…
""These coaches did a great job of coming in and stressing the importance of watching film and really teaching us what to look for," Martin said. "Not just the formations, but the little things -- the splits, the pressure keys, how offensive linemen are leaning when they want to pull or down-block."
November 30th, 2011 at 6:52 AM ^
only thing i didnt like in this article is saying "they" you are now a michigan man ondre.... its WE
