I thought I would hate it, but in the end I like that it's a more accurate throwback than the "Legacy" mish-mash uniforms. The helmet number font is even accurate. It satisfies the uni-watcher in me, even if I understand the slippery slope argument against them.
October 1st, 2011 at 2:03 PM ^
Don't mind it at all. I can't vote on your poll but if I could I would say I am for it to continue throughout the season.
October 1st, 2011 at 2:04 PM ^
A little change never hurts and I kind of like them. If they keep playing like this with them then I'm down.
October 1st, 2011 at 2:06 PM ^
they don't look like they don't belong
October 1st, 2011 at 2:15 PM ^
Double negative?
October 1st, 2011 at 2:06 PM ^
I like them - there's no doubt about that. But I'm not sure I like them as an "Every Saturday" thing...perhaps keep them in the closet and only bring them out for certain occasions, such as night games etc.
It's one of those things like "Why mess with a good thing?".....and if there's one thing in College Football that is a good thing, it's the Michigan Football helmets.
I say keep them in the closet for special occasions..like 3 to 4 times a year, not every game.
October 2nd, 2011 at 11:24 AM ^
It would be cool to wear them when we play Alabama next year. Just to mess with their psyche a little.
The rest of the time, leave it alone.
October 1st, 2011 at 2:13 PM ^
Love 'em. It combines the two best helmets in all of college football.
October 1st, 2011 at 2:17 PM ^
I'd prefer a clean look to the helmet, but the numbers don't muss it up anywhere near as much as pride stickers. I can love with them
October 1st, 2011 at 2:22 PM ^
the players asked to bring them back. If they want them....why not?
October 1st, 2011 at 3:51 PM ^
I agree. That totally adds to the whole environment of this being for the players. That has to be huge for recruiting and also keeping the guys already on the team having fun on game day. Hoke talks about Saturdays being fun after all the work.
October 1st, 2011 at 4:18 PM ^
I have some sympathy for the tradition(ish) argument since it does have some basis in history. But the "players want it" argument doesn't fly. If the players wanted all-black Pro Combat Fukkin Warriorz uniforms and never wanted to hear The Victors again, would you be OK with it?
October 1st, 2011 at 4:49 PM ^
You're taking this to quite the extreme. Asking to wear helmets that match what Michigan wore for at least a decade is not even close to the same as asking to wear black, pink, or polka dot jerseys.
October 1st, 2011 at 5:07 PM ^
Why is it all that different? Are you saying that
- if the players want the helmet numbers, I can't say anything because the players like it and it's traditional
- but if they want black jerseys then I can say something because the players like it but it's not traditional?
Logically speaking then, the "players want it" argument isn't relevant unless you're willing to apply it to things you'd absolutely hate as well. What you're telling me is it's about the history instead.
October 1st, 2011 at 5:16 PM ^
I'm not saying that you can't cry about it like a 6 year old girl either way. You're clearly allowed to continue to do that if you wish. That's up to you. I'm just saying you're using the most extreme comparison/analogy/whatever the fuck it is possible to try to make your point.

Perhaps in a parallel universe, Michigan wears black jerseys, dark blue pants, and black shoes and socks while wearing a maize helmet with blue wings and blue sticker numbers.
In all seriousness, I think the helmet stickers are full of win. It's a perfect way to get some stickers on the helmet (which a decent fraction of the fanbase desires) without the out-and-out clutter traditional sticker deployment creates.
October 1st, 2011 at 2:25 PM ^
Accurate? The font on the helmet doesn't match the numeral font on the jerseys. It's not accurate in that sense.
October 1st, 2011 at 3:23 PM ^
I agree that it would look great if the numbers matched, but the way they have been done for this season is an accurate throwback to the old design.

I think we took that font, and "italicized" it.
Was there an NCAA rule that required it, in the late fifties? Just about everybody did it back then.
October 2nd, 2011 at 11:45 AM ^
Um, we were not very good the decade that Michigan wore numbers on the helmets. We got good when Bo came in and removed the numbers.
So here's an idea: Since we are so keen on selective-memory throwbacks, let's honor those great Bo teams and take the numbers off the helmets.
October 1st, 2011 at 2:26 PM ^
But I really don't give a shit as long as we're playing well and haven't fucked with the unis and helmets otherwise.

I've never seen the helmet numbers! That's weird
October 1st, 2011 at 2:35 PM ^
But I'm sitting in a suite so I'm less mad
October 1st, 2011 at 2:41 PM ^
for thise like myself that would like to see the award stickers come back and the purists
October 1st, 2011 at 2:46 PM ^
Love them. They're bringing back a part of history that doesn't include stickers.
October 1st, 2011 at 2:50 PM ^
I would vote for the numbers hands down over stickers.
October 1st, 2011 at 2:47 PM ^
That is all.
October 1st, 2011 at 2:49 PM ^
It hasn't bothered me as much as I thought it would...I think Coach Hoke is messing with my mind.
October 1st, 2011 at 2:53 PM ^
If they keep the numbers that just means that I will have to buy all new Michigan gear. I own nothing that pictures the helmet with a number on the side.... Time to spend money
October 1st, 2011 at 10:30 PM ^
getchya a couple sheets of numbers for like $10
October 1st, 2011 at 2:54 PM ^
If they play like this with numbers on the side of their helmet then they can wear them every game...
October 1st, 2011 at 5:00 PM ^
I don't really love messing with the sleek helmet, but if they play like this they can put a number on their ass.
October 1st, 2011 at 3:01 PM ^
Doesn't really matter what we as fans think. Our core customers, the players, like them. So they stay.
That being said, I do like them.
October 2nd, 2011 at 1:08 AM ^
You think if a bunch of boosters complained Hoke wouldn't be pressured? Definitely would.
October 1st, 2011 at 3:10 PM ^
2-0 this year with the stickers. Keep them.
October 1st, 2011 at 3:13 PM ^
Meant number sticks not pride stickers

I'm also glad we don't have glittery helmets.
October 1st, 2011 at 6:16 PM ^
3 - 0 this year without the stickers. Ditch them.
October 1st, 2011 at 3:24 PM ^
You need another option for "Only if they make the numbers the same shade of yellow".
October 1st, 2011 at 3:26 PM ^
It' a player thing. I support it.
October 1st, 2011 at 3:50 PM ^
I'm so happy we're keeping them for the rest of the season. Really cool look
October 1st, 2011 at 3:59 PM ^
October 1st, 2011 at 4:00 PM ^
....to complete the classic UM uniform
October 1st, 2011 at 4:03 PM ^
Why mess with absolute perfection! The winged helmet is enough! No numbers!
October 1st, 2011 at 4:51 PM ^
If nothing else, it's about time we did something to differentiate ourselves from Delaware. I, for one, am tired of watching us play in their shadow.
October 1st, 2011 at 5:02 PM ^
Im not in favor or against it. Of course just dont mess with the wings.

October 1st, 2011 at 5:29 PM ^
They look cool, and they are based in tradition. I am for it.
