The Medieval Jousting Dinner Theater called....they'd like their costumes back before the 5:30 p.m. matinee
September 5th, 2011 at 8:38 PM ^
Does the one side remind anyone of the crash test dummies from the 90s?
September 5th, 2011 at 8:39 PM ^
They remind me of this:
September 5th, 2011 at 9:53 PM ^
...are just bizarre.
All I can figure is they are trying to confuse Miami with the uni's. Otherwise, they need to be featured on the next episode of "What Not To Wear."
September 5th, 2011 at 8:48 PM ^
wow, just wow. I really have trouble imagining them pointing to those uniforms and saying to recruits"You can wear these!" with a straight face.
September 5th, 2011 at 8:49 PM ^
"Our helmets have... uh... these things"
September 5th, 2011 at 8:49 PM ^
There is no such thing as bad publicity.
September 5th, 2011 at 8:50 PM ^
Looks like someone threw up on a white jersey and said, ".... hmmm... I think this might look good on an ACC team"
September 5th, 2011 at 8:50 PM ^
If they were just the red and white pattern they would be pretty sick.
September 5th, 2011 at 8:51 PM ^
ok. These are ugly as sin, but.....
They just announced that the team captains would select the uni for each week, and that they would take into account the opponent's uni. Example given was GaTech. If they have a lot of gold, Maryland won't wear a combo with much gold in it.
I like the concept. It's not for Michigan, but I think it's a nice wrinkle for a program looking to get noticed.
September 5th, 2011 at 9:20 PM ^
God, I hope Eastern doesn't go that route. We change our uniforms enough as it is....we don't have to add the sin of creating butt ugly uniforms to bad football.
September 5th, 2011 at 8:53 PM ^
I think this was a Project Runway challenge from last season.
September 5th, 2011 at 8:55 PM ^
What's even worse are the cleats, Maryland state flag pattern all over them.
I feel like I'm in that South Park episode when the kids refuse to watch the redux version of "Raiders"
JUST LOOK AWAY!!!
September 5th, 2011 at 9:00 PM ^
Definitely over the top. I thnk it's cool that they resemble the state flag.
September 5th, 2011 at 9:15 PM ^
I live in Maryland. The state flag is kinda cool. But seriously, there needs to be some limits.
September 6th, 2011 at 10:41 AM ^
I am also in MD, and my super scientific poll of drunk people at the bar thought they were ridiculous, but "kind of cool," whatever that means.

Looked it up and it's an elk and moose and an eagle and a dude with a gun and the sun and water and a shield and a...
September 5th, 2011 at 9:16 PM ^
Commercials for both schools uninspiring too.
Miami: make that U thing, 3 credits
Maryland: too many quick shots, also think you back off "fear the turtle" in an academic ad.
NO SPACE=FAIL.
September 5th, 2011 at 9:17 PM ^
From Pahokee? Shoudn't be allowed not to go to Michigan.
September 5th, 2011 at 9:18 PM ^
Anyone want to guess what the big red and white cross on the side of those helmets was used for in Maryland sometime in the 1860's?
September 6th, 2011 at 10:52 AM ^
It was used as a symbol of the Maryland secessionists, but Maryland had used the Crossland crest as a state symbol for many things prior to the secessionist adoption, and was created in the 17th century (well before there was even a Union to secede from). The state chose to incorporate the crest into its official flag after the Civil War to represent unity and healing, though it had long been used unofficially as one half of the symbol for the state anyway.

with Al Golden in the shirt and tie....kicking it old school. Has he always dressed that way for games?
September 5th, 2011 at 9:35 PM ^
Yup. With red and white ties at Temple.
September 5th, 2011 at 9:58 PM ^
I'm a fan of that look but only some could pull it off. If coach Hoke did it he would look like Hank Stram but with better hair. On second thought....That would be awesome.
September 6th, 2011 at 5:51 AM ^
Yup. Very old school JoePa. If Miami really goes down Id like to see Golden take over at PSU someday.
September 5th, 2011 at 9:26 PM ^
When I loaded the ESPN front page, the first thing I said was, "What in the HELL are the Terrapins wearing?"
I don't even do that with Oregon's unis. That is impressively ugly.
September 5th, 2011 at 9:28 PM ^
Md scores on fumble return for TD with 40 seconds to go in half. Miami had ball inside their own 20 and opted to run, presumably to run out the half. Ball stripped and returned for 6. Those that thought Denard going on a knee at the end of the 2nd quarter was weak (myself included) should repent.
September 6th, 2011 at 2:03 AM ^
Methinks you need to be at least out to the ~30 with a little time left or within hail-Mary distance if it's just a few seconds (depends on QB).
I believe the frequency of turnovers is greater than the frequency of 80 yd TDs in prevent situations.
If Texas had taken a knee in 09 against Alabama, they might have been Natl Champs.
September 5th, 2011 at 9:28 PM ^
is the turtle in the uni's?
September 6th, 2011 at 12:43 AM ^
The whole uniform looks like a giant turtle head coming out.
September 6th, 2011 at 2:04 AM ^
and look at those things
September 5th, 2011 at 9:29 PM ^
those jerseys remind of the the dallas teams jerseys from any given sunday
September 5th, 2011 at 9:37 PM ^
thats exactly what i thought too. watched that movie yesterday =]

There uniforms really are not THAT ugly

Daffy Duck is excited for our game.
September 5th, 2011 at 10:18 PM ^
A lot of the comments on this thread could apply to our retro jerseys.
September 5th, 2011 at 10:21 PM ^
At least our retro jerseys have some history behind them. I feel like my son from my third marriage came up with the design for those jerseys, and he's 9!
September 5th, 2011 at 10:22 PM ^
A Maryland "Key Play".
I thought outside of Michigan everyone knew that was dumb.
September 5th, 2011 at 10:29 PM ^
It doesn't surprise me that Maryland comes out with this stuff....you talk about a school and fanbase that's completely incapable of being embarrassed....
September 5th, 2011 at 11:02 PM ^
dude you have a serious hate for md, I know being a virginia fan it is your duty to feel superior to everyone else for no real reason but seriously, virginia is a joke, nobody in md gives a crap about your school so just let it go.
September 5th, 2011 at 11:16 PM ^
UVA athletic program is pretty embarrassing . . .
September 5th, 2011 at 11:58 PM ^
Not as embarrassing as saying something retarded like that. You must be one of those people who think there's only one college sport.
September 6th, 2011 at 10:31 AM ^
Football, basketball, and hockey. I haven't seen UVA do anything in any of those sports. You must be a lax brah or something.
The thing is, nobody cares about anything besides bball and football. Just look at the guy who always posts about UM softball on this site. Nobody even reads that shit. It's nice for the players and their friends and family, but everyone knows UVA sports are a joke because their basketball and football teams suck. Get over yourself.
September 6th, 2011 at 12:19 PM ^
I just have one question, if you can take a break for a sec from being a hypocritical ass about the lacrosse/hockey thing: what the fuck got into you all of a sudden? Maryland resident? Terp grad student and/or slappy? You're theoretically a Michigan fan, since when do the precious feelings of a fanbase that give OSU and MSU a real run for their money in the couch-burning department matter to you?
Or, in short: Why are you acting a dick to one of the hundreds of people who are bashing the uniforms?
