*Mods Delete*
There was really nothing extravegant on the show we didn't already know. I figured they were going to address Torg's statements. Let's get this deleted and not give legs to a rumor when his own station won't bring it up in an interview with Forde...recruits don't need to hear this.

The obligatory Chief mustache. Those come standard issue with the anchors.

I'm not sure if I can survive another Jihad type of situation.

to see what sticks? is there anything to tie us to this other than the fact that the shop sells both school's merchandise?
August 10th, 2011 at 7:22 PM ^
Didn't we hear rumors months ago about Michigan players and a memorabilia dealer in Toledo? I believe Denard Robinson was mentioned.
August 10th, 2011 at 7:29 PM ^
It was mentioned. No way in hell is Denard selling autographs.
August 10th, 2011 at 7:44 PM ^
The fact that Denard was mentioned makes me confident the rumors are totally unfounded.
August 10th, 2011 at 9:40 PM ^
Just wanted to throw this story out, as it is somewhat relevant. For Christmas my sister bought me a picture of the big house. Knowing one player on the team pretty well, she asked him if he could get denard to sign it for her, he proceeded to get much, at least 30-40, of the team to sign it for no cost of any sort.
August 10th, 2011 at 9:46 PM ^
Signing stuff for free is totally legal, and even encouraged. It's only a problem if people get paid for it.
August 10th, 2011 at 10:00 PM ^
yeah sorry, didnt mean to make it sound like they were doing anything wrong, more that for no reason at all at least 30 players on our team were signing a picture for a brother of a friend of a teammate. she even just asked for one and i guess denard just said leave the picture in the locker room and a bunch of they guys will sign it. that doesn't sound like players that are charging for autographs.

Please not us.....

IF any of this is true, ignorance of what your players are doing doesn't absolve you of your sins. For a program still on NCAA probation from the practice issues, it would be awful news for the program and our recruiting class could fall apart. Huge IF, of course.
August 10th, 2011 at 7:43 PM ^
So I take it you don't think it would have massive repercussions if true? Would be curious to hear your take on this rather than more cat photos....

That's exactly what I thought you said the first time. And I still don't agree.
August 10th, 2011 at 7:52 PM ^
I dont there's an ounce of truth in the bullshit a Columbus sports radio host tweets with zero sources and zero names.
You want to worry and play "what if" go ahead. I'll sit this one out.

He also caused 9/11.

It was NAVARRE

No offense, but I hope you're dead wrong. I know that store though and can't really believe it would get in a scandal like this. It feels like such a mom-and-pop shop
August 10th, 2011 at 8:30 PM ^
this store rumor emerged the same time that denard was being accused of selling tickets to games to wealthy alumni who blackmailed him into staying. of course, this rumor failed to pass the smell test of WHAT TICKETS HE WOULD HAVE TO SELL THAT ALUMNI WOULD PAY MORE FOR THAN 50 YD LINE TICKETS.
i stress this heavily because these stories were paired together equally through the 'same source.' to believe UM players sold autographs to this store would be to believe Denard sold tickets to wealthy boosters who forced him to stay and not transfer.
August 10th, 2011 at 7:27 PM ^
UM players COULD be involved. Sounds like speculation to keep his listeners from jumping off the ledge. I hate when people tie programs to something without actually knowing anything at all. God forbid an Ohio radio program has an agenda when their program is a sinking ship.
August 10th, 2011 at 7:30 PM ^
Yeah, this sounds about right. The only way people will continue listening is if they somehow tie Michigan into the deal.
August 10th, 2011 at 7:32 PM ^
It wouldn't surprise me, I'm just giving as much information as I can.
August 10th, 2011 at 7:46 PM ^
it's part of the SEC now. If they are doing it, so must everyone else.
August 10th, 2011 at 7:29 PM ^
I put zero stock into that. Sports talk radio is rarely a credible news source and I only cared about the OSU story after ESPN went with it.
This "Torg" guy is probably just talking out of his ass to save it from angry Buckeyes.
August 10th, 2011 at 7:31 PM ^
WTF?! I'm listening to the station but it sounds like a shitty emo rock station. Is this buckeye sports talk or am I doing something wrong?
EDIT: Just got it at 7:30.
August 10th, 2011 at 7:34 PM ^
OSU is flat out denying they even received a letter from the NCAA. If you have a 24/7 account, you can read Bucknuts' story on OSU's denial of said letter from the NCAA.

Also, if you're listening to The Fan online, you will get crap rock during the commercial time.
August 10th, 2011 at 7:36 PM ^
Wouldn't there be a difference between a 'notice of allegations' and an 'ongoing investigation'?
August 10th, 2011 at 7:43 PM ^
Everything that I've seen online has stated that the investigation was wrapped up when OSU received the news that they weren't getting hit with LOIC or failure to monitor.
August 10th, 2011 at 7:38 PM ^
I find the denial interesting, because as mentioned, the response from OSU says "no new allegations" but the report says OSU denied receiving a letter about additional investigation.
Either OSU's lying, ESPN is lying, or there's a murky truth somewhere in between. I'm going with option 3.
August 10th, 2011 at 7:39 PM ^
OSU is lying because that's what they do.
August 10th, 2011 at 8:02 PM ^
OSU isn't lying, ESPN isn't lying, and the report misreported OSU's statement. As you pointed out yourself, "the response from OSU says 'no new allegations' but the report says OSU denied receiving a letter about additional investigation."
August 10th, 2011 at 8:07 PM ^
what you're trying to say is...OSU has reading comprehension issues?
August 10th, 2011 at 8:55 PM ^
OSU's attorneys are expert at exploiting Bucknuts' reading comprehension issues.
August 10th, 2011 at 8:13 PM ^
I believe the following excerpts from the Dispatch article point to a possible explanation of what's going on:
[1] The university has received no indications from the NCAA that it could face additional allegations or findings, Lynch said.
[...]
[2] The letter did not make any references to an ongoing investigation of the football program, Lynch said.
[3] “The university has not received any additional allegations from the NCAA ... We do not anticipate discussing any additional allegations” on Friday, Lynch wrote in a statement.
Excerpt 1 could well be the "talking point" that OSU's PR machine wanted to make. That is, even if the letter said that OSU's Football Program remains under investigation, that does not, in and of itself, indicate that OSU will face any other allegations or findings.
In excerpt 2, Lynch may have strayed from this "talking point," stating that the letter did not make any reference to an ongoing investigation.
In excerpt 3, a written statement by Lynch is quoted, in which he gets back in line with the "talking point" in excerpt 1.
Given the efforts of the OSU PR machine this week, you can probably go ahead and add another $10,000 or so to the $800,000 bill OSU is racking up on its "defense."
August 10th, 2011 at 7:34 PM ^
There is nothing wrong with getting a player's autograph and selling it. A quick ebay search shows just how easy it is to find the stuff. Hell, the university is holding a fan day this weekend where a big part of it is meeting the players and getting their autograph. I would ignore Torg until something truly concrete comes out.
August 10th, 2011 at 7:35 PM ^
wow. Amazing how quickly we sound like OSU fans at the mere MENTION of any UM involvement.
August 10th, 2011 at 7:38 PM ^
If there wasn't evidence that players had been given large amounts of cash and free tattoos for their signatures and gear, no one would have a problem with the fact that OSU autographs were available en masse.
August 10th, 2011 at 8:53 PM ^
The difference is that with OSU the players were a direct link. There was no middle man, just players selling stuff intended only for players (rings, pants, etc) directly to fans and pocketing all the cash. What the previous poster was talking about is a player giving an autograph to a fan, then that fan sells it online and keeps the change himself. There's a difference

Ohio State University denies an ESPN report that officials received a letter last week from the NCAA informing the university that other issues involving the football program remain under investigation.
OSU spokesman Jim Lynch said this evening that ESPN’s report, based on multiple unidentified sources, is incorrect.
ESPN’s Pat Forde reported: “This is basically going to be a two-pronged investigation; there’s going to be more allegations to come in the future.” Comment was being sought from ESPN on Ohio State’s denial of its story.
The university has received no indications from the NCAA that it could face additional allegations or findings, Lynch said.
Lynch said that OSU President E. Gordon Gee received a letter from the NCAA on Aug. 3, but it concerned only procedural matters about the appearance of OSU officials before the Infractions Committee on Friday.
The letter did not make any references to an ongoing investigation of the football program, Lynch said. Ohio State cannot immediately release the letter because if must undergo legal review prior to its release, he said.
“The university has not received any additional allegations from the NCAA ... We do not anticipate discussing any additional allegations” on Friday, Lynch wrote in a statement.

I haven't head any mention of UofM. Who was is that made that claim..was it the shows host? Because if thats the case then w/e im not gonna put any stock in it.
August 10th, 2011 at 7:43 PM ^
It's a guy from their other show. He tweeted it. He's the guy who broke the initial story. I don't put a ton of stock in it either, but just passing the information on. Here's his twitter feed.
