Funny how the last 3 years Rivals was gospel and rankings matter according to "knowledable" posters. Now, it doesn't and Rivals is washed up. I guess I need to check in more often to find out what I am supposed to believe.
From what I see, the caliber of athlete being recruited is about the same, the style (bigger/slower) and the prevailing winds have changed. The level of recruit is about the same IMO.
That isn't true. Under RR we got quite a few commits with almost no offers. Not only that, they had almost no offers late in the recruiting process. The guys we have committed now all have at least several A.Q. offers and it is till spring.
There's not a single D.J. Williamson or Antonio Kinard in this bunch.
Where is this college named "list", they are going to have the best class ever
Recruits are initially attracted by their old tradition but they always fade towards signing day as kids realize there's not actually a football team there anymore.
i know for a fact that they have a team because i played them this year, but the fact that they play Carnegie Mellon might have something to do with it
Exactly. They play in the powerhouse UAA with CMU, NYU and WUSL.
Psh, why you all hating on that Tartan plaid, yo.
Questionable sexual orientation of mascot, WHAT.
Cuz the tartans just lost their biggest claim to football fame. The longest nonlosing season streak. It was at like 37 when we went 4-6 this year.
GOOOOOOOOOOOO TARTANSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
I always thought their biggest claim to fame was walking around the UC talking about quantum physics and advanced programming. Dudes are the smartest football players I think I've ever been around.
Most likely Alabama. I heard this is the newest way to oversign. Set up a shell school - in this case called list - get everyone to committ then dump them at will. Saban is devious like that.
No Bri'onte Dunn in the top 100 seems weird too.
I find that really strange as well. One of the mods said that Dunn was one that could be close to getting a five star. It must mean that they really cooled on him. I guess he is going to have to have a huge year to move up the rankings.
It could be that he fell somewhat because he committed to osu so early in the process.
I thought O'Brien would have a good chance of making it as well.
Keith Marshall, Zeke Pike, Jordan Payton was down the list. This is just preliminary, we should expect a lot of flucuation throughout the season. My guess is Ross has another monster statistical year and ends up a 6.0.
that I meant all instead of was, and with my pet peeve of useless grammar, guess that I had to reply to my own comment.
What a loser...........
Is that I think Rivals defines their star-assignment system by NFL potential above all else. Thus RJS, who is raw but huge, is still a better NFL prospect than Ross or TRich, since those guys are on the shorter side.
And yes, I realize Cissoko was like top 40 somehow.
Wow. Not that it matters (as the only thing that matters is how they produce on the field once they get to A2). Am also suprised that state of mich talent level is considered down (as I was of the opposite impression).
It would be interesting if there was a correlation between recruiting ranking and preferred access to said recruit.
We know there probably was one wrt Cullen Christian.
With regard to the rankings, why do we care? If the rankings were all in agreement, what reason would there be to pay attention to any of them? They need to differentiate to justify their existences.
Not one of these guys has played their senior season yet.
rankings hold WRT Midwest talent, it should be pretty hilarious to see where MSU ends up in the rankings coming off their BEST YEAR EVAR. I'm guessing they will have a class that looks like CMU's once we take all the 4 and 3 star players left in Michigan.
come on, we all know MSU recruits nationally now.
If Michigan recruits or gains the commentment of any player, that is an automatic 50-100 player rating deduction.
The list is always drastically different than we anticipate it to be. Let's just be honest and admit that every fanbase over-values their own reruits and always expects them to be ranked higher than they are. Furthermore, I wouldn't worry about this too much because the first rivals 100 list is always drastically different than the final one. The final one is the only one that matters, and even that doesn't matter until the kids start playing. Based on what I've read, I still can't believe James Ross isn't on the list.
is that Rivals doesn't even have a Midwest recruiting guy. There are like 15 Midwest kids in the top 100. Whether Michigan should have more top-100 guys or not, it's hard to fairly rank the best football players in the country when you don't even have a dedicated guy assigned to one of the major football regions.
I'm offically a fan of scout.
The important thing to remember is that Hoke is dominating the Midwest in terms of recruitment. It's a statement. Plus, watch some highlight tapes of our recruits and you make the call on how good they are. Rivals considers size and athleticism often more than necessary at times. Once big blue wins some games we will crack some of those "top 100"
Where is Pharaoh Brown? Dude may be only 220, but he's is 6'6'' and his highlight reel is beastly
He's too raw. I doubt he'll even be in the top 250.
I agree he is a beast. You look at his offers however, not really top 100 type offers. Strong offers but not top-notch. I also read that he had wanted to play tight end at a lot of schools, until he listened to mattison who asked him to become a defensive presence. Certaintly Michigan feels they can add some frame to the kid
What does the Giants' season have to do with the Rivals100?
Big blue referring to Michigan? If we show the program is indeed improving, it gives some valid proof that recruits need to see
I'm pretty sure everyone knows what you meant, but the point of the comment was that Michigan IS NOT Big Blue. Big Blue is the Giants int he NFL or maybe Kentucky Basketball. Every team that has the color blue IS NOT Big Blue. The correct terms are:
U of M, M, Michigan, Wolverines.
Please adjust your fandom accordingly.
Not trying to be a dick, but we are not big blue.
Edit: NM beaten to the punch
When 247 Sports formed, did they "poach" any of Rivals' regional scouts?
I heard that the guys who founded Rivals created 247sports. I guess rivals was known to have good analysts in the past all over the country, but now it seems like they are located in the south and California.
Not surprising, but frustrating.
I still think our class is shaping up to be very good.
While I'm not psyched with this initial list, I'm not sure if Rivals really treats us so much worse than Scout.
2011: Rivals had us at #21 while Scout had us at #27.
2010: Rivals #20; Scout #12
2009: Rivals #8; Scout #14
2008: Rivals #10; Scout #6
Just seems like they always differ and it isn't really consistent as to which one rates us higher. In my opinion, whichever one rates us higher is clearly a much more reputable source.
What were the ave star ratings though? Scout's team rankings weight total class size a bit more. So there can be some differences there.
Kind of makes the whole list suspect. Almost everyone I talk to in Ohio says he is either #1 or #2 in the state...and we know how good the recruits are in the state.
That's really really surprising.
William Mahone #78 as RB ahead of Dunn? but we want him as a DB - interesting.
Also anyone know who is the 7th OSU player (former) Sporting News is talking about involved in the tatoo scandal - potentially vacating wins from all the way to 2008?
Yeah, that confused me as to why we weren't perusing as an RB. He wants to play that, and he's a pretty good prospect.
He is actually rated higher than Warren Ball too. I would hate to see him go to psu or msu. He could be someone that scares us down the line.
Crable Robber: "And yes, I realize Cissoko was like top 40 somehow."
Well.. the NFL loves DB's with criminal records, so that probably moved him up a couple notches.
i too was a lil surprised to see mahone at #78 and rated the best back in ohio. Though he doesnt get the hype as ball or dunn, i like his highlight tape, it shows he can run inside or outside. The coaches know more than i do but i would be fine with taking him as a rb on the offensive side of the ball?
