He was on my flight home...

...from DTW. MSU shelled out for a first class seat for him and his miniature orange buddy/manager/Louis Vuitton-bag carrier, naturally. A few middle aged UM fans were asking him if he wanted to see their Snookies.

Gus

Played by Clark Johnson, who played football at EMU. Good instincts by you.

Partial Explanation

Is that I think Rivals defines their star-assignment system by NFL potential above all else. Thus RJS, who is raw but huge, is still a better NFL prospect than Ross or TRich, since those guys are on the shorter side.

And yes, I realize Cissoko was like top 40 somehow.

Hard Knocks?

Maybe they are the Hard Knocks team this year? The Jets had a similarly vague "major announcement" press conference last year, IIRC.

Not to be a Debbie Downer

But where in that article do you see that UM is in Watkins' top 2?

A Seahawks fan's perspective

Lo-Jack hasn't been a bust per se, but I wouldn't get too excited about him. The Seahawks' old GM Tim Ruskell had an affinity for high floor-low ceiling guys, and Jackson typifies that model to an extreme.

He was at one point fairly highly thought of as a sophomore or junior at USC, but then never really went anywhere production-wise and was a HUGE reach on draft day. As a pro he's never been able to get much push on OTs, let alone show off anything in the way of pass rush skills. He's not terrible,  but he's far from good. Basically, he's just sort of THERE.

Great Success

Edit Rosters!

Hands On

I can't think of many creepier places to meet ladies than Borders and the Hands On Museum. Unless you're into picking up homeless dudes and 7 year olds.

Not starting him yet

But Touissant is surprisingly good.

Nebraska is now

Nebraska is now

The worst state in the Big Ten

Except Ohio

I think

We prefer him for OG but want to give him a chance to prove himself on defense. Not closing any doors, but not wholly encouraging him to play D either.

Mike Cox

Surprising because he's not a big recruit, a big name, or a fan favorite as of now, but I think he ends up leading the team in carries and rushing TDs, though still not as an out-and-out starter.

And if I'm wrong, at least he has a promising modeling career ahead of him.

You may

You may be right, and part of me hopes there's that much honor and loyalty in sports, but it's a bottom line business.

I could imagine Jack Z saying something to the effect of  "Y'know Junior, we just love you. All that you've done for this franchise and this city is frankly staggering. You must be exhausted after all these years though! Hey, just so you know, there's always a spot for you in this organization."

re: timing

I'm sure that the front office ever-so-slightly nudged him out the door. He's blocking the progress of one of the M's top prospects (Saunders) and is essentially a roster black hole.

I'm sure it was a really tough nudge to make, but a necessary one. That guy could still win a mayoral race in Seattle.

I'm Glad

That he's trying to make this as un-awkward as possible for all involved.

He was my favorite player as a kid too, and it's been rough to see that bat speed slow down, and he's really killing an already disappointing team. Luckily there's so much love for him in Seattle that I think some of the awkwardness will be quelled.

Hopefully he got to tickle Ichiro one last time.

Honestly

Honestly at this point it's a luxury to read a national column about Michigan that doesn't essentially read "CRIMINUL HILLBILLY LAWSOOT DEMAR DORSEY HOT SEAT MAJOR VIOLASHUNZ MICHIGAN MAN MICHIGAN MAN MICHIGAN MAN," even if it's not all that insightful.

I agree that the faction bullshit is getting old, but I'll take that response over 99% of the national content out there. He gets accused of Michigan homer-dom by a reader later in the piece, too.

FWIW

Looks like the ESPN 150 is coming out tomorrow. Generally wackier and even more biased (by who commits to play in their UA Game) than Rivals, IMHE.

Was just  looking back at past editions and remembered that they had Junior Hemingway ranked #19 overall! Ten spots in front of Dez Bryant.

Jernigan

Couldn't believe how far he fell- got to think he'll pop back up once the season starts.

Really strong top 100 for UM overall.

best so far

Delorean- pure cheese, in a good way

Black Keys

Dr. Dog

Major Lazer & La Roux mixtape is the most fun possible thing to listen to

Mumford & Sons

Joanna Newsom

And yeah, Surfer Blood and the National

Huh?

Eye don't get it

Re: prestige vs. scholarship

I went to MLaw on zero scholarship. I got into better/comparable schools, and schools that were in more appealing areas to me, and I never have second thoughts about not going to those. I frequently have second thoughts about not having gone to the schools that offered me gobs of scholarship dough.

You're likely to feel more trapped by your debt than by your alma mater's lack of prestige. See if you can find a middle ground, with a reasonably good school that offers to take care of at least half of your tuition.

Even in this economy, if you absolutely work your ass off first year, you'll be able to find a job, almost regardless of school.

Also, take a look at bankruptcy law- if you can stomach it, it's one of the very few areas that's in high demand at good firms, and having a preference for it will make you stand out.
