Eh.. there's a lot of recruiting topics already. Not sure if this warrants a topic.
"What's the toughest school to get an offer from?"
<br>
<br>Especially with the Are We Recruiting Texas Style thread...just sayin', interesting topic, but glass houses and all...
Maybe it's just me, but if people want to follow high school kids on Twitter...
...then get a Twitter account.
All these threads popping up about what various kids are saying on Twitter gets a little bit old.
I'm happy to say we agree on this.
But if people don't want to be bothered by the FREE user-generated content here, they should just you know....not click on links.
Maybe its just me but I'm pretty sure the title dont say "Creeping highschoolers twitter accounts for random speculation".
Hence the clicky of the linky.
I could fill up this entire blog with FREE, user-generated content.
That doesn't mean all of it would be useful.
And, of course, it could easily be inserted to one of the multiple threads about recruiting, either on the MGoBoard or on the front page.
This was information that I otherwise would not have known. Hence it was USEFUL to me.
You can and do fill up a site(TTB) with your content and you don't see me coming over there to tell you what to (and NOT to) post. Many people would also argue that the babe of the day pictures on your site aren't exactly useful either...they would be stupid of course.
NOTE: reply to Magnus, not to FumanBlue.
There's a fine line between "I'm a regular follower of my favorite team" and "Hey, kids, come get some free candy from my windowless van." Twitter is quickly blurring that line.
I wonder who he knows for sure then since he wouldn't be working on Godin, Day, and Wormley if one of them was the one he knows for sure. Who could it be?
richardson
We may have 12 by the end of the week if Godin does what we hope on Thursday and some of these others who seem to have commitments looming like Thompson or Richardson pull the trigger.
Sorry to say,, but you about to be negged. Not by me, but be ready.
I thought it would be worth a discussion. It's not like I had any points anyways. On a good note if Barnett really is getting these guys closer to committing. You would have to say he was a good late get.
regardless of whether he did anything to help recruit other players. That being said, him trying to get other guys to commit is a BIG bonus.
Explain "diehard" because I find it extremely weird and awkward.
Yippie kai yay, Mr. Falcon.
RJS today was asking for more followers. So if they don't find it weird then why should you?
Is it 16-22 yr old kids we are stalking?? Yes. But...
I challenge anyone to fill in the blank posed here with an acceptable rationalization. Winner gets a new pair of high-power binoculars.
EDIT: The standard for an acceptable response is whether you realistically put the words "Your Honor" in front of the statement...
....they are my children
The OP is as clueless as everyone else is. You are not stalking anyone if you read their twitter posts. That is public information given to the internet community. Reading anyone's twitter account is not creepy at all. Unless, of course, that is combined with actual creepy behavior such as stalking them from a windowless van.
on the phrase that "yeah, I'm stalking kids. What of it?"
And I was commenting on the OP's comment as well. They are clueless as to what constitutes stalking and what does not. Hacking an email is stalking, following on twitter is not.
Hacking e-mail is "stalking" now? Even if you don't know the individual personally?
Uh... I'll be right back. I've just gotta take care of some things.
I find it interesting. It is the downtime for a lot of sports so the update is fine. I do not click on links I have already read to reread them so I appreciate a new link if it has something new in it. If you do not feel this way, you are free to not waste your time. There are plenty of topics I do not waste my time clicking on or commenting on. Proceed with your day.
Thank you!
Thank you!
Twitter is far from being a creep in a windowless van. All you relating the two are fucking nuts. The purpose of twitter is to get your thoughts and information out there for others to read. Who cares if it happens to be an 18 year old kid disseminating the information?
The kid signed up for twitter with the expectation people would follow them. It is not the same as following some kid around in the store, at school, in a creepy van.
First, it's called 'hyperbole.'
Second, can you really tell me it's a good idea for an entire fan base to have access to, and discuss in every third thread, the unfiltered thoughts of 16- to 18-year-old kids? Sure, these kids have an expectation that people would follow them, but that doesn't mean that the results aren't going to be (a) creepy, (b) detrimental to the kid, or (c) otherwise messed up.
Look no further than Rashard Mendenhall. Dude is like 25, and attended a rather prestigious university, and he went and F-ed up HUGE last week and screwed up a bunch for himself. Tell me we don't run similar risks with kids who can barely buy a ticket to an R-rated movie?
Does not matter. It is not our job to regulate these kids on the internet. That is for their parents/guardians to do. If they have a twitter account there is no problem with anyone following that person. You are putting the responsibility of regulation on the fans instead of the player and his family.
Kids may say some stupid things but that does not mean we are all dumb, or creepy, for following a future player on twitter. Twitter is a tool used to disseminate information, nothing more. All the blame for such stupid remarks should be put on the kid and his family/upbringing.
Twitter combined with creepy behavior such as actual stalking is completely unacceptable obviously. Twitter is not the problem, it always comes back to individuals.
I don't see a huge problem with following players on Twitter. I don't, but players (and fans) can do what they want.
The echo chamber, on the other hand, worries me. I don't know if kids have a proper appreciation for what happens when they send a tweet or post on Facebook. MGoBlog feeds into some pretty mainstream media outlets, and despite the best upbringings, kids will continue to do and say stupid shit they'll wish they hadn't said. That's my concern.
Plus, like Magnus pointed out, there is no reason to re-tweet everything straight onto the board.
I agree with the echo chamber part of your post. However, whether we like it or not, this is the age we live in. kids are becoming more and more aware of how things on the internet spread. Hell, I am 26 years old, I grew up in a house that did not have internet in it until I was 16. Kids today have had internet their entire lives. They are more savvy than I was when I was their age.
Still, the blame for any ignorant comments, no matter how unfortunate or damaging, falls squarely on whoever said it.
So you are saying that following some kid around in the store, at school, in a creepy van is not ok?
frick....
Same argument from the Coaching Change, no one's twisting your arm to click the link. Thanks for the info, I do not have twitter just a government computer and enjoy all thing Michigan.
Personal flamebait: No nuclear bombs or layers agreements please.
Personally, I don't really care if fans follow players on Twitter.
It's when message boards become Twitter feeds that it starts to gnaw at me.
Now there is an opinion that is reasonable. I personally do not mind people posting information from twitter, but maybe to appease the masses it should have a label along the lines of "Twitter: Barnett says 12-14 recruits by June 1st" that way those of you who do not want to read twitter updates know to avoid it.
That's actually a good idea, since there are some fans who like getting up to date info on what recruits/players have to say, while others like to avoid twitter whenever possible. Since we have OT for Off Topic, we should have PT for Per Twitter. That way it is clear whether they are relaying information they got from twitter vs. the normal discussion board topics. Just a thought.
Agree that I don't care what someone had for breakfast but me being a tech ignorant, I don't mind feeds being posted due to lack of access. As it is the offseason and I pretty much burned through every B1G/UM blog by 10:00am I'll take anything.
I can only stare at your attractive Michigan girl off the week for so long.
http://touchthebanner.blogspot.com/2011/05/maize-n-brew-april-30-recruiting-update.html
maybe not.
I think you're underestimating her magnetism.
Rule of thumb on that picture: if you've noticed the boat in the background, you've probably spent too much time looking at it.
What was this thread about again? I was busy looking for a boat.
Sorry, "Shiny" girl has a very different rule of thumb: if the sun goes down and comes up again, you've probably spent too much time staring at her.
Totally with you Gunners....Government filters can be very annoying and since this is the only place that I can collect Michigan information, I see the value in it. But the PT thing is also a good idea as well
If the number of comments are any indication, if you just stay on your site then you won't have any problems. man, people complain about the stupidest things, that is the real problem with this site, not twitter feeds
