TomVH: LB Joe Bolden Update
Ohio LB Joe Bolden (6'2", 225 lbs) was up at Michigan around two weeks ago. If you don't remember, you can see his visit reaction here. Bolden came away very impressed from the visit last time.
I spoke with him tonight and he told me that he will be back up to Michigan next Tuesday (April 12th) with his parents. He also told me that he believes he is close to a decision, he's just not sure when it will come.
I should also point out that Michigan commit OL Caleb Stacey has been recruiting Bolden and trying to get him to come to Michigan. We'll see what happens.
That reading your posts make me a lot happier lately?
What do you mean lately? His posts almost always make me happy.
Information from TomVH is very much like an essential mineral or vitamin that our bodies need on a regular basis. It may very well have its own space on the elemental chart. This site should have nutritional stats listing the percentage of daily recommended TomVH info that is offered on every serving at MGoBlog. Could you imagine how much better the world would be if Cocoa Krispies were fortified with TomVH information???
It's something that you can never OD on! In fact the FDA recommends that you get at least one serving a day of TomVH. They say that the more you get the healthier you will be. It can cures all!!
Linebackers are we taking in this class??
ill say....based on my edumacated guess...17.
your avatar makes this so much better
Great news Tom. Thanks a lot for the update!
If we were to land Bolden and Ringer, how do you think that would affect our recruiting/chances with RJS and Ross
I am not one to turn away 4 star Lb's but that is definitly my question as well. Can we afford 4 lb in this class?
If there's no attrition, then I don't see how we can take four linebackers. But if our class grows, then I can see it.
there won't be attrition though right?
History suggests there will be attrition. But it's impossible for me to say one way or the other.
Re Saban:
U seem to be pretty knowledgeable on all of these recruiting subjects, so im curious if we may not have room for 4 lb's then what type of position breakdown do you project for the class?
By my count, right now we only have 16 spots:
The coaches have stated to recruits that they want 6 offensive linemen.
+1 quarterback
+1 running back
+2 tight ends
+1 defensive end
+2 defensive tackles
+2 linebackers
+1 cornerback
= 16 scholarships
I think the class will get bigger than 16, but that's about what I would expect for now.
I know we currently have many WRs, but after not taking any last year shouldn't we expect at least one in this class?
Well, you have to make sacrifices somewhere. And if there's no attrition, then a wide receiver isn't really necessary.
Were there any WRs in this last class, though?
I admittedly don't follow or remember recruiting stuff as much as most people on the board, but I seem to remember people being confused and kind of pissed that the staff passed up on Lucien specifically because WR is going to be a position of need in the next year or so.
We lose 3 of our 4 top WRs. Of course we need at least 1 WR in this class.
The numbers disagree.
But it's a moot point, anyway. We only have 16 scholarships available for next year, but that number will surely increase. So it doesn't really matter.
I'm soooo happy you didnt write "mute" point. I had seen it twice in a row and I don't think I could've handled thrice...
we will take a WR in this class. Do you think the coaches would turn down a Stefon Diggs, hell no.
What RS juniors at this point could we not give a 5th year to if we needed some wiggle room?
Don't like answering this but Cox and T.Robinson jump out as guys who might not get a 5th. Other candidates are Barnum, Demens, Floyd, Khoury, Kovacs, Mealer, Moore, Omameh and Roundtree but almost all of them will be contributing significantly.
There is a bit of wiggle room there but that's an issue that can wait until later on.
Khoury (backs up 2 spots on the line); Omameh (hates donkeys almost as much as Taylor Lewan) and Roundtree?
Srsly.
Didn't say they were legitimate possibilities. Those are all the redshirt juniors this year and with the exception of Cox and TRob, all of them are A) starters or B) The only existing depth. Subsequently, they're not candidates to not receive a 5th year. I'm not the coaches so I'm not the one making the call but Cox and TRob are the only ones in that group who haven't been significant contributors thus far and are in positions where we actually have a bit of depth.
I'm guessing TRob is the only one who really fits the bill. My Magic 8-Ball tells me that Cox is going to be a bigger contributor this year, whereas We have about 6 more slot ninjas than we currently need.
Bigger....?
Or maybe she hoped?
You think some of this players can play in another position? Bolden is like 6'3" but don't know if he could en up playing in some other position
I don't think Bolden has much position flexibility. He's a linebacker or, if he grows a lot, maybe a rush end. That's about it.
We have to take RJS though don't we?
Well, Jenkins-Stone is really the only MLB in that entire crew, so yeah, I think he's the biggest "must have" of the four.
I see you mention he is a 4* but I didn't see him on the list that was posted earlier on the site. Anyone have any more hard ranking facts just for thoughts?
<br>
Bolden's a 4-star (#27 OLB) to Scout and is ranked 16th in Ohio by OSU's Rivals site (3rd best LB in the state).
Point to make regarding the RJS/Ross debate. There may not be room for 4 LB's. That said, if we land Ringer and Bolden, it's not as if we're given schollies to scrubs. Both are arguably the top LB in Ohio and should be 4-stars (or high 3-stars) if that matters for you.
Do I want RJS and Ross? Absolutely. But if there's no room for them because we've got Ringer and Bolden, I certainly won't be disappointed.
Michigan doesn't want Michigan guys. Who does this Hoke guy think he is. Sparty owns the state!
michigan state "owns" the state because they have to wait around for in state guys to decide because they arent recruiting nationally, we can afford to tell recruits that we want them but they need to decide or their spot will be gone. we can't wait forever for players in state to decide and hope they choose us
2 guys are ranked 1 and 3 in the state of ohio,i take that any day. I think we might gets RJS but i don't no about James BIGGS Ross.
So assuming Bolden and Ringer fill up those spots, wouldn't that significantly impact Ross' decision?
Good players aren't typically scared away by competition.
Michigan is going to take the players they want if those players want to commit. If Ross wants to come here, I would imagine the coaches will squeeze him in, even if it comes at the expense of another recruit's commitment.
I'm wondering this same thing too. I think Bolden is a great prospect, but so is Ross, and Ross is coveted by our rivals more. With Ringer seemingly committing, and Bolden looking good, I fear it may drive Ross to a certain hated rival, since they are being recruited for the same positions. I think part of recruiting is denying your foes what they desire as well as getting your team what they need.
they should commit. Sounds like Bolden is a Michigan man and is taking one of the LB spots.
you talking about msu or psu. I don't think he would go to osu, with all the stuff that has happen there in the past 9 years. The ncaa is about to drop the hammer on them.GO BLUE!!!
This and the "how many linebackers are we going to take" question are the two I'm wondering right now. We''re looking at a few people on the lines on each side of the ball. We probably need at least one player at some of the skill positions and a quarterback. Defensively, we're going to be looking a few linebackers and may be a defensive back? We have 20 schollies?
5-6 OL
4-5 DL
3-4 LB
1 QB, RB, WR, TE, FB, DB
Does that approximately what we're looking at?
That coaches want six offensive linemen.
They also seem to want at least two tight ends, because they're offering pass-catching types as well as blocking types.
I do think they want 6 OL and 2 TEs. However, if we get 4 LBs who commit early, we could handle taking 5 OL and 1 TE to make room for them, since they are all high-talent guys. This is, of course, if we don't have attrition to make room.
We need 5 OL and a TE, and taking more than that is a luxury. I don't think we turn down Ross or RJS for a 6th OL or a second TE, unless the 6th OL is a big, big name.
